Breeding Supervision
I check mine morning and late afternoon. I work 3 days a week and this works on my work days and I dont want to fuss too much with them on their days off. I must say though, my first 3 cabinet babies are really calm and easily handled, much more so than the aviary babies, even though I checked/handled them reasonably frequently also.

Help Please
Good luck Deb. It's great news to hear that mum has taken over feeding again. It will be sad to lose the little one if you do, but at least the other three are on the road to good health and life :hap: We can only do what we can do

Colony Breeding.
I started out breeding my budgies and learning about breeding by colony breeding and I had great success and really enjoyed my first experiences and had minimal trouble. Due to wanting to breed a larger quality of bird, and out of curiousity about pairings, I am now cabinet breeding. I guess the bug gets to you lol. I have to say though, that I enjoyed my time when I was colony breeding, checking the birds everyday and finding new babies and watching the bonded pairs being so cute and lovey dovey together :hap: Good luck with your aviary and breeding plans

Went To An Auction
Well darn Lib........they are so smoochie with each other... George, all the budgies in this thread are bred by fairly well known club/show breeders here in Adelaide. I have been fortunate enough in the past to get some very nice birds from a breeder through a friend for the dirt cheap price of $10. These birds were on auction and the price I paid for them was only $5 more than the price the last person to bid before me was willing to pay for them, and there were a lot more experienced people in the room than me. And I may not be interested in showing birds this week or next, or maybe even next year, but who knows where life takes you. I am still looking forward to my ongoing learning and having some beautiful birds to breed with and hopefully increase the size of the birds in my aviary. Thank you for your input though :hap: (PS I havent paid $100 for a bird........yet and 4 out of 6 of these birds I actually only paid $20 for)

Went To An Auction
It's been interesting reading more on this post! Apparently, he maybe split to cinnamon too and I will be breeding him with Aphrodite who is a cinnamonwing grey spangle, so hopefully I will get more cinny spangles? Fingers crossed :budgiedance: And as for my piggy bank............my fiance is bringing his wallet teehee so I better be extra nice to him this weekend lol And you are right MB, I am a loooooooong way from looking at showing birds, but I have to say, its really nice to have such nice types to look at and breed from. I will be putting a couple of birds in at our local club show in a few weeks time, but I think I am the only one in my class in the club, so winning wont be something to be gloating about, but it will be interesting to get criticism on the birds I choose to take. Adonis and Aphrodite wont be going though, hopefully, they will be making babies

Went To An Auction
Well I have just spoken to the breeder of both Adonis and Aphrodite. I actually decided to call him, cause they are flirting in the holding cage and it dawned on me they could be related, so I wanted to check that, as I would like to pair them (theyre not related). Anyway, Libby was right, he is a white DF spangle with bad diffusion of colour. He has also just done a cull of his birds and invited me and a friend around for first option before he advertises them. I'm really excited to see his set up and birds. That is happening Sunday.........sooooooo I guess I might find myself a little poorer once again! LOL Be well worth it if he has other birds of the same calibre though :budgiedance:

Is There Such A Thing?
I have a pied TCB. Actually, the fact that she is pied is the reason I got her from the breeder, cause she cant be shown under TCB class with another mutation. She is a VERY pretty bird, I personally think she is prettier than the other TCB hen I have. I am not sure if she is dom pied or recessive though.........I just know that cause her flights are clear she is pied. Here are a couple of pics. While we're on the topic can any of the experts out there tell me what I might need to breed more like her?

Went To An Auction
As requested........the colour is now a little washed out due to the flash, but as Libby said, there is no banding or pattern, just soft blue. Thank you all for your comments . Yoshi is the ratbag of the bunch, he just wouldnt sit still to have his picture taken!! Now I have to find a gf for him as I only have green clearwings, he is my only blue

Tcb Hen & Violet Cocks
I'm not 100% sure either, I am pretty sure you are right about the TCB and I think the other two are dom pieds......but I am happy to be corrected. I just wanted to say what pretty birds they all are

Went To An Auction
I have to say, I thought the same when I saw his description on the auction notes. I bought 2 birds from the same breeder, in fact him and Aphrodite are from the same guy and he said he would be culling birds and advertising them in the next month or so and would let us know before he advertises. So I am going to query him on his breeding then. Either way, he's pretty and has a lovely head

Went To An Auction
Haha.....its fun but the adrenaline leaves you shaking when its all over, I felt like I needed a stiff drink afterwards. I paid more for Adonis than I hoped, but my partner was also with me and supporting me and I paid less for Aphrodite than I was expecting, so it balanced out I am thinking of putting those 2 down together.......... Thanks Liv, she is stunning, more so in real life too. One day, you will have to plan a day down south and make the trek and come visit

Went To An Auction
Well, I didnt really get carried away, cause I had put money away for this auction for a while and I was planning on splurging. My two big splurges, Adonis and Aphrodite, even though they cost me more than Ive ever paid for a budgie, I am really over the moon with them. Some of the others were just a really good price I thought. So here they are (I hope you dont mind that I put up more than one picture of them, cause I tried to get pics that did them justice) Adonis - DF Spangle cock Aphrodite - Cinnamonwing grey spangle hen Darius - Dom pied grey spangle cock Chloe - Lutino hen Xenia - light green opaline hen (I know her cere looks blue for some reason in this picture, but she IS a hen) and finally little Yoshi - skyblue clearwing cock.

Congratulations Maesie Babies look nice and pink and healthy. I would think that cage would be fine for 4 babies myself, particularly if they get out of cage time as well.......but then again thats just my opinion and Im no expert Oops better modify my shortcuts!
