  1. Uggghh what poor poor creatures Will their beaks grow back and healthier with treatment? I really hope so. Good on you for taking them to make them better Lib How are they eating?? I mean, do they have appetites?
  2. The cock is definitely a dark green recessive pied. The hen, I am just taking a stab in the dark, is a black eyed self? Lutinos are yellow with red eyes and albinos are white with red eyes

Awww they are cute piccies The kids look like they are loving spending time with the birds
  4. Hand raised quakers/pet quakers tend to not be as noisey as aviary birds. They mimic a lot of words and noises, so they spend a lot of time "talking". Saffy has a screech every so often, but the noise factor of a quaker is MUCH less than my sun, or a sulphie or even a galah I would think. She is a darling, with loads of personality and as with most birds, very intelligent. (I just stretched and I usually make a noise after I stretch......she now imitates that and whenever she sees me stretch makes the "noise" before I do! ) I have been advised by a bird dealer who sells quakers that they are a great parrot as they dont require as much attention as some and are a hardy bird. Saffy lives with my sun, so she has a constant companion, but even prior to that, as long as she had lots of toys (which she does) she is quite happy to amuse herself in her cage, although they really do love people company. I would recommend a quaker as a pet over a sun conure, they are much quieter and much less demanding I got Saffy at 10 weeks of age and have had her for just over a year now and have never regretted a minute

Oh Rah, I'm sorry to hear your news. I was really hoping this little one would beat the odds. You did everything you could possibly do and did a great job too. They are so delicate this age, I dont think I could have even attempted what you did. *HUGS* Sorry again to hear he has gone

Updated piccies. All blue series babies and I think the first two are going to be spangles? Maybe the last will be opaline like mum, I have no idea yet, but they are doing really well Baby 1 Baby 2 and lastly the little one......Baby 3

Alot of breeders will handle babies from day one. I try not to at that age, only because I feel my fingers are too big and clumsy and as long as I can see everything is okay, I leave them alone. But there isnt an age limit, you can handle your babies whenever you feel comfortable I think. I havent had any hens have a problem with me handling their babies, and as you can see from Rah's fabulous post, she is actually hand raising her baby from day one!

  10. :D Well I better find that cock soon then!! LOL
  11. Well, I'll think about it........unless I find a gorgeous big lacewing cock to marry my cute lil lacewing gal
  12. Oh you and your splits..............YOU of all people should know I'm too impatient for all that LOL
  13. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Birds are such brave little critters and they often mask illness very well and often, when it is finally noticed, they are pretty much on their last legs and dont often pull through anyway, even when vet attention is sought.
  14. *stomps feet* Well theyre' not having babies then!!!!
  15. So the pairing of these two will throw back to just visual normal greens? (with splits of course)
  16. That sounds pretty good to me MB! I can only hope :budgiedance:

  19. I have a lovely clearwing cock I was hoping would mate with my lovely clearwing hen, but since doing an aviary reshuffle, I have noticed he is courting another hen. She is also a nice size bird, so for size, I wouldnt mind at all if they bred (mind you I dont have a cabinet for them yet, so they will just have to wait for a bit). She is a dark green (I think) recessive pied cinnamon and he is a dark green clearwing. I know its all luck of the draw and I dont know their parentage, but being two recessive genes, I was just wondering what I might get with these two. Any ideas? Harrison my clearwing cock Cindy is the hen sitting lower down

Rah I have to commend you for all your efforts. I really hope and wish, for you and your daughters fairy wish that you baby makes it I dont think I could do what you are doing to be quite honest and I really admire your dedication :hap:
  24. Awwww your Cookie is an adorable little baby. One suggestion I have for when I have been having birds out of their cages, parrots AND budgies is to move to another room with them, so they dont have the cage "security blanket" there. It makes them focus more on what is around them. Seeing as Cookies cage is where you work, maybe you could try covering it over with a sheet or blanket when he is out of the cage. Just a suggestion that has worked with some taming Ive done
  25. Amira (sorry I had to steal the name) Dilute grey spangle hen - possibly opaline? (baby)
