What Colour Is She
From another thread about rainbows........... Rainbow http://' target="_blank"> This is a rare composite of Opaline, Clearwing, & Yellowface (or Goldenface) on a Blue series bird creating a 'rainbow' effect. Does this make Sophie close to a rainbow? She has opaline and yellow face, but is a greywing instead of clearwing?

Gorgeous George
Shouldnt he have been called Adonis? (or do I have my Greeks mixed up ) He's very cute :wine I thought there was a bug on the side of my screen and I ignored it for a few seconds thinking it would fly away, but then I realised it's your avatar!!

5 Weeks Old
I dont know why he would, but you certainly cant look a gift budgie in the mouth!! :wine That's great he is helping you out. I always have little panics when I bring my babies in until I see them eating. I usually tend to leave them in the aviary about 3 or 4 days after they have fledged and they pretty much seem to have the hang of feeding themselves by this time

What Colour Is She
Thanks Elly. I wish she had been a good mum, but cause she plucked both the babies as soon as they started to feather, I have let her go as I decided I wouldnt breed with her again. She was a yft2 blue something, not grey. It's a shame, they made quite pretty babies. Hopefully I can carry on their colours with these two down the track and find something that will bring out their colours and maybe up their size a little :hap: Thanks Indz and all others who have commented

Putting A Fallow Or Lacewing Hen With Grey Spangle Cock
I have a fallow cock and a fallow hen and I am breeding both to other mutations in the hopes they both have clutches and I can then cross THEIR clutches with each other down the track, being that both clutches will be split to fallow. (That is my understanding anyway :hap:?) Do you know someone that actually breeds fallows Liv? Mine have been pot luck buys from a bird dealer I visit regularly and the only guy who breeds down south apparently hasnt had any luck for the last 2 years (so I have been told).

A Busy Weekend
Well I told my partner that I need a space to put my one breeding cabinet cause I want to pair up my new fallow hen with something specific cause I want to track her babies cause my fallow cock has paired up with another hen and I hope to cross breed them all later down the track and get some fallows! Anyway, I was clearing off a spot on my dressing table to put the box, but he didnt think it was a good idea. Project 1: Clean the spare room/junk room/tool shed room! (I dont as yet have a toolshed so the spare room doubles for that as well) That only took all day. I couldnt belive SO much JUNK could be stored in such a little room! I will be putting out junk in the garbage bin for the next 3 weeks! Project 2: Our king parrots have been showing signs they might want somewhere to breed. We have a few breeding boxes in the aviary but more suited to the smaller/larger parrots like princesses, crimson wings. Adam, my fiance, saw something on the net when he was researching king parrot boxes about using a wine barrel, so a couple of weeks ago, we got a wine barrel and Sunday we (mostly I mean he) spent the day welding a plate and steel tube together and dug a huge hole in my rock hard back yard and concreted the post in. The we, together, lifted the thing up onto the pedestal he had made. All in all it went very well and the birds are showing a lot of interest. (Mostly the Crimsons and Regents though and if they steal the box we will have to set up another king box!!) Anyway I just wanted to share a couple of pictures of how it looks. We were pretty pleased with our ingenuity and effort You can see our Regent hen Grace on the perch of the wine barrel box and just see the kings in the back right hand corner behind it. This is the opening, the only thing we still have to do is create the bottom door for looking in and checking, which Adam will do in a couple of weeks

What Colour Is She
This is her brother, I have decided to call her Sophie and on suggestion, his name is Ellis (Laughing out loud). And this their dad Lime, but I dont have pics of their mum unfortunately. Lime currently has chicks with a little grey spangle, and its her first clutch. I have my fingers crossed now they might have yellow faces!

What Colour Is She
Haha......sorry Liv, I plan on keeping and breeding her when she's old enough to try to keep that pretty colour running. I'll make you a deal though, you can have one of her offspring in 12 months time (Laughing out loud)

What Colour Is She
Is she opaline as well or was I wrong with that? Mum was very similar colours, but with different (normal) wing markings. I have a friend who wanted some budgies for a nice aviary at her dad's retirement home, so I gave her a few of my older birds or problem birds to have a nice retired life and Dizzy has gone there, so I dont have pics of her. Dad is a light green grey wing I think. I can post a picture of him later. When I first started here at the forums, I had a boy called Harley that I really wanted to breed cause I loved his colours and markings, but I think Harley was too old to breed when I got him. I still have him and love him, but I dont try to breed him. This little girl reminds me of a slightly washed out version of Harley

What Colour Is She
This is a baby from a clutch I had in January. There were only two, this girl and her brother. I was planning on keeping them both for their colour, cause their mum was quite pretty, but mummy plucks the babies, so mummy has gone to a retirement home to no longer breed. Anyway, I was looking at my birds yesterday as I so often do and the colour of this little hen's wings really caught my eye. I realise she is opaline but can you please tell me the rest of her mutation? I dont have a name for her yet, a few have been running around in my head but nothing that really jumps out at me yet.

Scooter And Latte

New Pics
He looks pretty pleased with himself up there. I have noticed that babies like to play in their food. I have actually seen babies "bathe" in the veggie platter in the aviary at times. I have also seen babies jump in their seed feeder indoors and just scratch around in it. They get all amongst the cool greens and wiggle around and fluff up, its the funniest thing. I dont know if its just baby behaviour, but I think it might be

Going Shopping 4 Spike
I have changed vets for criticism. It's expensive to take your pet to a vet and you try to do the best you can by your pets and you really dont need a vet who YOU are paying for a service, to make you feel bad. Sounds like Spike is one spoiled budgie!! Glad to hear everything is going well

Going Shopping 4 Spike
Well I guess that really depends on the bird really. I have had a few of my babies go to homes where I have handled them daily before they go, and I start handling them as soon as their new owners decide that is the baby they want. I havent heard that any of them have been clipped as when they get their baby home, they start handling them straight away also and they tame up quickly without being clipped. It's really a personal decision, but if Spike could be in danger from fans etc, its also a safety decision.

Going Shopping 4 Spike
Spike is flying around after having his wings clipped? :hap: I give my budgies some apple too, I dont know whether he has developed a taste for apple or not but he might like it They love corn on the cob or off. I usually have a bag of frozen corn and peas in the freezer for when I dont have fresh corn and they seem to love this just as much. Most people here seem to use pegs on the top of their cage doors to keep them closed for clever little budgies like Spike The vet shouldnt lecture you, as you pointed out, you have ceiling fans, so its for his safety as well as for a training aide. Obviously he has settled quickly considering he is already working out escape routes

More New Arrivals This Afternoon
I'm glad everything is going well Just remember to put a saucer of seed in the bottom of his cage to encourage him to eat, though I highly doubt he will eat anything today. I would brush his beak with millett like I was doing when you were here earlier, tomorrow, to encourage him to nibble and that will get his appetite started
