Awww very cute. I have a big handsome green boy similar to your Chippy, called Sylvester. I think he is the biggest budgie I own and............he's gay too! He pays MUCH more attention to the boys than the girls! *sigh* all the best lookers are gay! (just kidding guys! :(Laughing out loud)

If you do decide to clip your next baby's wings, there is a local vet near us who did one of my parrots and only charged I think $9.50. For peace of mind and a job well done, I found that a very small price to pay

A few weeks ago, I decided I would like another lutino male to add to my aviary. The male I bought was smaller than I thought when I got him home, so I was still keeping an eye out. I visited the bird store on the other side of town, near my partner's place and got all excited about a nice looking yellow budgie - not lutino, but with cinnamon markings. I wanted a cock and wasnt sure of the sex of the bird as the cere wasnt coloured. The shop owner came with me to answer my query, and while I was trying to refind the bird I had looked at, he pointed it out and said "thats the one youre looking for isnt it". I was amazed (its a bit sad when your bird dealer knows your taste in colour in budgies! ) as he was right and he said it was a male. He also pointed out my gorgeous new bird is a fallow! I was so excited as I had made local enquiries just a couple of weeks before to try and get hold of some fallow budgies, but with no luck as yet. Well here he is.........I think I might call him Comet, but I'm not quite settled on a name just yet (Not fabulous pics, but they show his colour)
  7. I havent been on the forum for quite a while, not spending time at the computer much for personal reasons. It was lovely to meet Kathy and her kids the other day and I am glad she enjoyed seeing our birds. I am going to be keeping in touch with Kathy letting her know what has recently fledged as I like to take my babies, who are to be hand tamed, from the aviary asap and make sure they are eating properly and do some handling so they are nice and calm and ready to go on with. Unfortunately Kathy would prefer a male and I am getting nothing but hens lately! but she is happy with a hen too if we can find her a colour her son likes (blue or yellow). I have lots of jellybeans waiting to colour up at the moment, so as soon as something comes along in her colour, we will be in business

Here is Pretty, one of my favourites and her fella Lemon. He has the spot behind his head, but I couldnt quite get it in the picture. They only had one baby last time, and this time they have two. Any ideas on the colouring of the yellow baby? I want to keep that one Baby1 Baby2 the flash washed out some colour, but it is a light yellow colour

Thank you I love all the mix of colours, of course, being colony bred, there could be another daddy involved, who knows. I have only left two babies in the adult aviary so far, as they fledged and were very independent and there were no hassles. I have a baby budgie aviary though now, so as soon as they fledge and I see they are eating seed, they will be transferred out of the "adult world". Yes, Pretty my pied hen is one of my favourite birds. She just looks so big and strong and doesnt harass anyone or take cr#p from anyone either She has only had small clutches, but I dont care, I would rather her have one or two babies and be healthy and just grace my aviary with her beauty than worry about her not being a big breeder. One of Faith's babies looks a lot like Pretty to me........fingers crossed I have been so lucky with my first time breeding with some wonderful parents, wonderful colours and healthy babies.

This is Faith and Splodge (not the first picture, these are two hens) They had a clutch of two already and she was laying before the first two fledged. Second time around, she laid seven eggs and they all hatched! :fear She is the lutino in the first picture, Pretty is one of my favourite girls. Pretty has had two clutches also, first was one baby, 2nd she has two in the box, not long til they fledge This is Splodge. He is a dominant pied mauve. You cant see in the pics, but he has the white round spot on the back of his head (a splodge of white ) hence his name. He is a great daddy and has been very supportive to Faith and their large family. I think he has actually lost some condition looking after such a large family. They will also not be breeding again for at least 6 months. This is Splodge in the middle with Sylvester the green on the left and Lemon on the right. This is their family about a week ago. and again just today (what I could get in the shot) And here are five of their babies. I just took pics of the oldest five, I will take pics of the youngest two when they start to colour more

I added a lot of wood shavings to one nest box as the hen has 7 babies.....she didnt look like she was going to go back in, but as other advice has said on the forum, they do. She took a little while, like an hour or so maybe, and dad went in first and I think she was reassured by this. She has still thrown most of the shavings out, I just put a handful in every few days. If she is fussy enough to clean that much and is looking after 7 babies, I dont want to wear her out with cleaning.
  20. Crackle looks cinnamon to me?? Oh and good luck with the babies

Yep, they all seem to be happy to fly around properly instead of being caged inside and its soooooooooooo quiet in my lounge room with just Morris (my sun conure) and Saffy (my quaker). Even though they can both be loud at times, the constant background chatter is gone now. It was getting to the point that we were all competing to be heard!

I finally got my new budgie aviary!! We have been talking about it and planning it for a while, but life is very hectic for us at the moment. My wonderful fiance spent almost all weekend concreting the slab and putting up the new aviary. (I helped but he is the brains and brawn behind all the tuff stuff). The aviary is 2.27 long with a divider in the middle and 1.53 deep and 1.83 high. One side is for baby budgies and the other side is for non breeding birds so that we can get the breeding boxes out of the big aviary. Once all the birds in the big aviary that are currently breeding have finished, we will take down all the boxes, then let all the adult birds back into that aviary for free flight. The plan is, in the near future, to have an embankment of smaller aviaries to house breeding pairs, with two pairs to each aviary. So I will still be kind of colony breeding, but on a smaller and more controllable scale. This is the new aviary, in blue. and the one we already have in zinc
  25. Lovely looking budgies, very pretty! :hap:
