I havent actually seen any "action" between the pair and they have three eggs but the eggs look very light and "feel empty". Can this be the case?
  4. Thanks for your advice KAZ. I felt bad and panicked that I didnt know what to do I will know better next time.
  5. Unfortunately it was only 2 days old and none of my other hens had chicks young enough to place or their eggs were too new I guess. Neither hen I tried with the baby hurt it, but they didnt feed it either. I lost it. I'm sorry, but I just couldnt feed a baby that tiny. I have since questioned at the club last night about crop feeding and bought a crop needle, but I am hoping I can get a demonstration before I actually have to use and I dont see that you could use a crop needle on a baby that small either?

My reasons are much the same as Sailorwolf, although this has been my first time breeding. I have to admit to not doing much research as my partner bred many years ago and assured me it would all be fine and easy. I have found the more I read and learn though, the more I want to learn, hence joining my local budgie club. I have been told by the lovely lady there that they will help with the sale of your babies as they are contacted and pass on information. At the moment, I am just selling my babies to friends/work colleagues and am happy to keep them for as long as I need to and am hand taming as much as possible, so they are lovely pets. I will also be pulling my breeding boxes to control my breeding
  7. Beautiful budgie Norm So unusual!
  8. Hi guys I have seen a lot of posts about putting eggs or chicks with other hens. I was wondering if there is anything special you need to do if you suspect a baby is not being looked after and wish to put it with a hen you think will care for it, or do you just take the chick and give it to the hen. I realise the foster mother must have eggs or possibly babies of her own. Will most hens take a foster baby?
  9. It's good fun isnt it. I am trying to hand tame as many of my babies as I can so I can sell them to people as pets and they already have a head start on their training and theyre used to hands. It's almost as though I start again every day when I get home from work, but they very quickly settle One of my babies likes to sit on my hand and nibble my fingers and skin and my rings hehe. The others only really step up cause I dont stop until they do (Laughing out loud)
  10. He looks a bit like my Harley who I am hoping to have babies from at the moment Harley is a Yellow face type 2 skyblue opaline (so I was recently informed)
  11. Gosh KAZ, they are such gorgeous birds!! I am so envious. I dont think Ive seen any violets here so far, but hopefully that will change when I join the club tomorrow night I have mauves that I thought were greys Am I right in saying that mauves look grey but have blue on their cheeks?

I have an abundance of silverbeet from our work's community garden that no one else is using, so I bring it home for my birds who love it. I know you can over feed on lettuce, but can they get too much silverbeet?

Gorgeous looking birds As someone else said, we dont get birds like that here in our petshops either. Just the ordinary budgie in a pet shop here can go for $25. Bird dealers are a bit cheaper.

Aaaarrrrgh I have hens coming out of my ears!! (Laughing out loud) Oh well, they will still be pretty hens hehe. Thanks for your opinions/comments people :hap:
  15. I agree I think she is cobalt. Mum is skyblue recessive and she has that slight green tint in some shots, but dad doesnt. Learning about colouring is so daunting until you finally understand the first little bit! hehe
  16. Her daddy is cobalt recessive but doesnt have as much colour on his wings

Congrats on your first babies Maddi
  18. *chuckles* thanks
  19. I was just wondering if birds who mate tend to stay with the same partner if given the choice, or if they change partners on a whim. I realise that if a partner is taken away from a bird, it will find a new mate, but if their partner is available to them that they have mated with, do they prefer to be with the same mate?

Well Harley and Lucy have two eggs, so I am really hopeful I will have babies from them :offtopic: They both seem to be happy and doing well, they are actually in my lounge room, but high on a cabinet and not in a walkway area, so they must be feeling reasonably settled their if she is laying I guess. Just thought I would add also, I am joining my local budgie association and am going to my first meeting Friday night and I'm very excited
  22. Thanks all for your info

  25. Hi all This is Precious. Precious is the youngest of Smudges and Cloudy's babies and will be staying with me. I would like to breed from him/her when she is old enough, but I am hoping in the meantime to have her as a pet. She might not become a breeder after all (Laughing out loud). I was wondering if these shots I have of her are enough to find out what colour she is. My son has borrowed my digital camera for a few days, so these are all I have right now.
