Thanks for the new pics Jimmy, they look great I am still not sure of Len's mutation, though I do know lacewings have purple cheek patches and cinnamon throat spots if that helps at all??

Sorry to hear your news missylu  Hens are just so unpredictable, I lost a baby this morning too, to a hen who I thought was being a wonderful mother and she has just stopped feeding her two 3 week old babies and I guess dad isnt feeding them either. I thought everything was okay in this nest and didnt realise until I found one dead. I have now fostered the other to the only other nest I have going right now the same age and am keeping fingers crossed. Sorry again to hear your news, its frustrating and disheartening at times

Thank you Elly for your correction. I am a bit unsure as far as dilutes are concerned I think your plan to wait for a hand tamed budgie from MB is great and then another month of working with them both seperately might even give you two tame babies!! Good luck with all your endeavours, you sound like you are looking to do all the right things by your new babies :party0011:
  9. I am NOT surprised!! That you counted.....the number of eggs however IS surprising!! lol :ohmygod:

Being so young, you will have to wait 12 months for her to breed, and just another word of warning - if you are looking to have a pet budgie that will sit on your shoulder, you wont get one by introducing another budgie with no training that you only get to spend half an hour a day with. I am not saying it is a bad idea to get her a friend, I am just letting you know what you will be in for if you do :ohmygod: A pet budgie needs LOTS of time, particularly in the beginning stages, to learn to trust you and be comfortable with you. If you add another baby budgie, who also has no training, chances are, they will look to each other for company and when you come along, they will both be afraid of you, reacting off each other
  11. Awwwwww.......well Im so glad he was released healthily and happily back into his environment. I love lizards, blue tongues are beautiful. My mum used to be squeamish when I brought them home as a kid, cause she thought they looked like snakes with legs, and I have to admit, at first glance at your first picture, I thought you had caught a snake!! :ohmygod:

Most birds, particularly birds that are popular pets, tend to be very social and if they dont have feathered friends to rely on for their social activity, then you are it. It is generally advised to keep birds in a busy area of the house, so they feel a part of things and are entertained. I am not sure what you can do, having a lot of cats around, but I think she will get very lonely locked in a room all day with only half an hour's attention. You do need to be aware of cables etc, as budgies love to chew things also.

Hi and welcome to the forum. She is certainly a pretty little thing!! My guess at her colour is possibly sky blue dilute clearwing, but I will wait for others with a more knowledgeable answer to confirm or correct that for you She is very sweet, no wonder you fell in love with her
  16. Good luck with your babies. Hand raising four babies will take LOTS of patience and time!! I hope everything works out for you *crossed fingers*
  17. Well done. Congratulations

Just another updated picture of this family. Mum was up on a perch, so she wasnt in the picture, but this is dad and babies enjoying their breakfast this morning. The little blue girl in front is such a character. Whenever you put your hand in the cage, she rushes over fearlessly and tries to bite you. She doesnt bite hard, being only a baby. So then I start to scratch under her chin and around her head and she leans into the scratching like a cat would. Its so cute
  19. With all the beautiful quality birds you own and now breed, I have no idea why someone would even doubt any post you made on parentage (is that the word I want?) Anyway, you know what I mean. Your birds are gorgeous and I would be VERY proud to breed the quality you are achieving

    They both have yellow faces
  23. I started out with colony breeding and have also bred some of my aviary bred/kept birds in a cabinet. My latest girl was a bit antsy for a few days adjusting to the smaller environment, but I try to stay away from the cage as much as possible to let them settle. Dad now looks forward to the little dishes of veggies etc I take to my birds every day and she is currently sitting on three eggs. I also have a hen I really want to breed with who was bred in a cabinet and she wont settle at all My pet types, aviary bred or not, settle very quickly cause they are such avid little breeders. Generally, as soon as they notice they are all alone together, boy meets girl, boy and girl see nesting hole and the rest is history
  24. I would say yf2 because he has yellow through his wings and isnt a true blue colour, but has the slight greenish tinge you talk about. A yf1 has a yellow face only and the colour doesnt wash over the body. Yf2 has yellow which "runs" over the rest of the colouring of the bird I hope my description is correct!
  25. I have a violet spangle, but the only picture I currently have of him is a baby picture. I am sure other members will have pics to share. I will try to take an up to date picture of him tomorrow to post, but at least in this picture you can see the colour
