My First Cabinet Pairs.
Have you just recently trimmed him? That might have been your problem in the first round, so fingers crossed, with a trim, the 2nd round will bring results?

Gracie And Darius
Grace and Darius's babies are doing well. He eats food like I've never seen a budgie put it away before to feed his babies and she is a super protective mum, bouncing out of the box when I knock to look in, but coming back in sometimes when Im still handling babies and grabbing hold of my finger!! I suspect I have 3 grey spangle babies, one has a yellow face. The thing that confuses me though, is that none of them look dom pied to me

My First Cabinet Pairs.
I would wait longer and either wait til she tosses her eggs, or remove them and let them try again. I have found that often maiden couples will lay their first round clear. My greys did that, and their 2nd round, they only laid 4 eggs, but I have 3 out of 4 very healthy babies from them now

My thoughts are with you Maesie.....so sorry to hear your news *hugs*

My First Cabinet Pairs.
I would put them together asap. I dont see any reason not to. I just swapped a hen in a cabinet with another, even though she was bonded with the male, cause she was showing no interest in the nest box at all. The boy was interested in the new girl as soon as she was put in, and she has been ducking in and out of the nest box already.

My First Cabinet Pairs.
Sorry to hear of your loss Liv. I had something a bit similar happen with a cock bird of mine a few months ago too. He was an 07 bird, looked fit and was young, beautiful grey boy. I bought several birds from this particular breeder and have had no troubles with any others. I had him in a wire cage with a hen and put a nest box in there and one morning checked on them as I always do and found him "sitting" in the nest box. I tapped the box and he didnt move and my first thought was that the hen had attacked him. I got him out and he was dead, just sitting in that position. He wasnt moulting, he had a clean vent and I have no idea why he died. I guess sometimes, these things just happen. On another note, congrats on your eggs from Lady. It's always thrilling getting eggs, but extra special when it's from an "extra special" bird

To Grit Or Not To Grit, That Is The Question! + 1
I do give my birds grit, sporadically, they seem to love throwing it around and others I know do the same, but I dont really know much about the technicalities. I would like to comment on the milk statement though. Last night at our budgie meeting, a prevalent breeder was asking everyone how their breeding season is going and giving tips etc etc. He also happened to mention that if you find a day old baby cold and warm it, you may bring it back to life (which I have read in several forum topics here anyway) but he then said to feed it warmed milk and glucose. I hadnt heard of this before. I didnt ask any questions (it was my first meeting and I was being a listener more than a talker), but I was curious to this, as you pointed out Pippi, birds are lactose intolerant. Also, day old babies are recommended to be fed warmed natural yoghurt also. I am glad you brought up this topic, both the grit and milk questions and I look forward to the discussion and other members responses

Whar Makes A Cock Become An Egg Smasher?
That was advice given to me too last night Liv, I have an egg smasher, but it is the first time I have bred this pair, and I dont know yet which it is, the hen or cock. I saved 2 of their eggs and put them under another hen, but I dont hold out much hope, I have a gut feeling they would have been addled.
