Suspected Hen Pecking Baby
I got home last night and my oldest chick was out of the nest box. I thought maybe she was just over eager, as she isnt fully feathered yet. So I put her back in. I was speaking to a "budgie" friend on the phone and she said "Oh did the mother throw it out" and I said I didnt think so. I have had a long day (work related) and I got home and was about to eat dinner, but thought I better check the chicks before I sat down and the baby was out of the nest box again. I picked it up and this time, I could see a small blood mark on the back of its head. I think it is missing a couple of shoulder feathers too. It is fine, but I dont want to risk that the hen is eager to start her next clutch and is throwing the oldest out of the box. Dad was on the floor in the corner of the cabinet tending to baby. I have currently removed the hen, put the baby back in the nest box and hoping dad finishes them. The only dilemma I have is what to do with the hen for now. She is currently in a holding cage in the breeding room, but she is calling out and I am worried her calling will distract dad from doing his job. Should I put her back in the aviary tomorrow while he finishes the chicks or should I leave her in the holding cage?

Thanks for the advice Norm, I might try that. I am also not going to check on my birds so often after their first couple of eggs until it comes close to hatching time, hopefully to avoid addling etc.

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
Lovely birds I had a cock who was always getting jiggy with his perch and I was told this isnt a good thing, cause they spend too much time um, getting off and not tending to the hen. He was bonded with his hen and they preened and he fed her etc but after 5 weeks, they still hadnt laid anything, so I have put them out in the aviary again. I did have another boy who "liked" his water feeder. They didnt have a lot of success as a couple either, but she did hatch one egg, unfortunately though she didnt feed the baby and when I checked it at the end of the day it was already dead. So anyway, he must have had some success with her or they wouldnt have any babies at all. Anyway, that's my little story of "boys who do objects". I dont know what others have found or experiences they have had........

My Two Pairs
Congrats on your babies pippie

Meet Rusky
A 2 week old baby wont even be feathered, let alone be able to feed itself. They have either made a mistake or are very much "full of it". This baby is 2 and a half weeks old, to give you an idea. Oh and welcome to you and your cute Ruskie, I think he might be a she as you suspect

Mother Of 4 Died
Silverbeet is similar to spinach, and pretty much smells the same to me, though I am now sure how different the two are. There is some interesting info from DrNat about it under a topic about apple cider vinegar. Here is that topic http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....rbeet&st=20
