My Big Babies
Wow have been away for the last month so couldn't reply, unfortunately the blue baby died just before I left for what reason I'm not sure? And the yellow Double factor pied while I was away didn't survive the heat so I didn't have much luck with this clutch. But the big green fella is in Perth with my mum at the moment causing her much grief when its 'back in the cage time' and the pied opaline hen is here with me. She didn't get the size of the first clutch (I kept a green male and opaline female from that one) This is the male from the first clutch (Sep/Oct06) and the hen She seems to have fallen for a young male I have here - he is a similar age (06) a case of similars attract- not opposites! Also when I emptied the aviaries of nestboxes at the end of last year I had one screwed to the wall- a case of I'll need a screwdriver to get that off so I'll do it next time- I didn't get around to doing it before I went away so this albino and rec pied male made good use of it while they had the chance.

Bizarre Colour?
She is beautiful- mauve DF Dom pied. You can't determine dominant pieds and DF Dom pieds from Iris rings though. Some have two and some have one. Both of my DF's have both iris rings. If paired with the right male to bring out the colours she would have pretty little'uns

Temperature
Hi there, anything over 40c they start to struggle a bit- panting wings spread, it has currently been 43-46c this week where I live and my birds have been panting heavily and I have been worried. Sitting still it isn't too bad but if these birds were required to fly (if a large aviary or in the wild) they would more than likely die. Mine spend the day sitting around the water container and they look very stressed When it gets this hot out the bush and birds are frightened by something they take off into the air, get stressed and heat builds up and they actually fall out the sky or out of trees dead. A strange thing to see. We also get to minus 2-3 here and as long as they are sheltered from the frost and have protection from the wind they live okay. But young babies or out of condition/ aged birds usually die with the extreme temps.

Question
The babies will more than likely be green, unles your green male had 1 or more blue parents- that would give him a chance to carry the blue gene. If he didn't inherit any blue gene from either parents then they will be green. It might take 2 or 3 clutches for the blue gene to show in the babies. I would expect all greens with any other colour a bonus if it showed up

My First Show Budgie Babies.......... Arrivals
Everyone seems to be having extreme temps at the moment. It has been 42-46C here for the last week, its a full time job keeping the animals alive! (lost 4 baby ferrets and 1 baby quail) but keeping the sprinkler on the aviaries and cages seems to keep it a little lower- Good luck with the babies- can't wait til they feather up!! Might have to come say hello next time I'm in Perth!!

My Boys Have Gone
hhmmm- well I'd never heard them called a Tiel before joining this forum! They have always been Weiro's to everyone I know, even in the paper- cockatiel was always the 'flash' name! Well he is still here, although now in the aviary while we are away- he hates me for doing that to him! I don't think he realises he is a bird and my birds had never seen a weiro before so you can imagine the panic for the first minute :bluebudgie: Everyone is okay now and getting along.

Paine, The Rescue Budgie
:hap: not your favourite uncle I'm guessing!! How did he end up with her for xmas? was she not wanted as a xmas present? well done with the progress so far. So your not moving overseas anymore? It did sound like a huge amount of work for you and the birds

Air Cleaner And Birds?
okay you guys really lost me with the air purifiers... but what is a Krtek mug?

What Is He?
A green bird can still have blue feathers around his vent/belly, alot of my green babies have blue feathers (or blue sheen) around their underbody when born slowly moulting out to mainly green. Both parents are split blue so some of the young males that have this (blue feathering) I am going to see if they carry it too.

I Have A Problem
I missed this post too! I've been following the other one! The babies sound interesting

My Boys Have Gone
okay I have another problem- I was outside yesterday and a weiro flew onto my head- he is tamish, in that he flys over to you and doesn't leave but he's not a talker or whistler. As I sent my only inside bird cage to mum with my budgies he is free-flying around the house for now with food and water set up for him. He will fly off you if he's hungry and got to the kitchen for a feed. BUT I am leaving tomorrow and no-one is answering my found notices. Surely someone is missing him! Hopefully his owners turn up today before I go away or its into the aviary for him until we get back! Also we can't take any birds with us as we are camping out for 3 weeks and they just wouldn't fit!!

My Boys Have Gone
yeah I know, they probably won't come back!! Actually I'm cheating as one of them is only (dob: 10 Nov) ...7 weeks? Although he is tame, steps up, loves head scratches and been inside for a few weeks with me and chook, hopefully they both get the extra time spent with them and come back tamer  Once she actually has them I will stop worrying and probably forget about them on my holiday (its just the 8 hour drive to Perth and the overnighter at friends family house I worry about)

Pictures Of Birds
Love that picture of Carrington, so pretty and symetrical. Looks like a painting the spots and bars so vivid!! Anyway.... gorgeous birds (he he my brothers name is Steve, he is so nothing like a budgie I giggled)
-
What Is He?
I agree- the first one looks opaline violet- (female?) can't quite see its head. Second has green on rump and between legs- no markings though.... (or very light ones)....................

My Boys Have Gone
 I have just sent my budgies down to Perth to stay with my mum while I'm on holidays, the house is so quiet I didn't realise I'd miss them (not the mess though) They are being taken down by a friend, it was a bit of a rush as she had to leave right after we got home from work, not tomorrow as planned as the roads are likely to be closed for a few days. I didn't think I'd worry about them so much and think no-one would be able to look after them right (that is why they are doing a trip to Perth!!) Even though we are having a lady come round everyday to feed the dogs, aviaries, ferrets, water the garden, (hmm guinea pig, mice, snake) it just goes on! She wouldn't have given them one-on-one time which they need. I don't know why I am posting this but I spose I am just thinking/worrying about them. But the holiday will be great as long as the rain stops so we can get somewhere, we are heading across to NSW- collarenibri (sp) area, up towards QLD then to Brisbane/Gold Coast, then to Tamworth Country Music all up we are gone for about 3 1/2 weeks

Breeding
usually anywhere from 4-8. Some have more, some less. Sometimes the first one or the last one aren't fertile (or any in between) so hopefully you get left with about 5. In a couple of days if there are no more then she is finished. Hens usually lay every second day

I Have A Question
Ha Ha look out its Superspider!! Can you get a broom and try to get rid of the web then work out what part he's in? then spray/hose whatever him?] If I lived near you I would come around and try to help!!

Budgiebird Hilton News ........part 2
which show birds have youput together? (am being lazy, I probably did read it somewhere!) okay curiousity over-road laziness. Is it the Lutino pair or the pair above them? (or neither?) Seen them on page 4

I Have A Question
Depending on gow big your aviary is, shoo all birds down one end (away from spider corner) and give it a short spray (flyyspray). If done on a slightly windy day it should disperse any leftover spray so its not harmful to birds (don't do when birds are downwind) being outside and using a small amount shouldn't affect them. Yes I will probably get yelled at from everyone for suggesting this but it can be done safely. Bea's idea is good, hosing them annoys them and if it crawls out of the corner it can then be squashed

Rough Day With Animals
cool, never heard of a ball python- I am off to do some googling!! I have a python too (soon to be joined by another) and the budgie-as a baby- used to sit by the glass and stare at him.
