  1. Type 2!! The normal cobalts will probably be a type 2 as well

The leg stretching one got me- mine only do that when stretching. 96%
  3. Make sure the formula you are feeding the baby is runny enough- if not this can cause major problems like you have got. What formula are you using? Give the baby a feed of very very runny formula or even flat lemonade and massage his crop very gently all over and try to loosen the impaction. This can sometimes help clear and loosen up his crop. Have you handraised before? Good luck.
  4. The reason for not feeding breeding birds things like this while breedingis that they will fill up on this which means the babies wont be getting a nutritional feed- eucalyptus leaves have alot of fibre in them but not alot of goodness. This is the reason Koalas sleep so much as digesting the food takes as much energy as they actually get from the leaves. Saying that the actual oils are good medicine and the bark contains Lysine- which is why they have shredded the branch- and does do the birds alot of good.
  5. 1. How old was your budgie (s) when you purchased him/her I was told approx 8 weeks but due to the fact he wasnt eating once I got him home and his 'short'tail feathers were still curled from the nest box I'm guessing 4 weeks. 2. If you tamed your budgie right out of the nest, when did you start taming and handling the chick? My old budgie was handled everyday from the nest box but wasnt taken out until he was fully weaned from the mum. 3. Was your budgie tame a little or not at all? The one I have now is tame- very flighty with strangers though. The nestbox baby was extremely tame- loved everyone but he did have alot more time spent with him, 4. When you tamed your budgie was he the only budgie, or did you buy them in pairs, or was he an addition? Did your first budgie stay tame, and how did the taming go for the additional budgie (s)My first budgies was always tamed seperate although birds from the aviary had sleepovers now and again!! (they were ex tame ones and stayed relatively tame.) After a while a new addition was always added but while they were tame they were never annoying little pests like the first one is!! Also the one I have now is only just starting to fly to me and do stuff with me after a year so stick with it. 5. What is your best tip you can give (don't say everyone else gave good tips (Laughing out loud)) what did YOU find worked well for you and WHY?I found that clipping their wings and moving their cage out of view while handling. Once they had the first moult and the flights grew back I didnt redo them. Talk to them heaps, share your food, if they sulk in the cage go and get them out again!! Annoy them heaps- make them do everything with you!! If you dont annoy them too much but let them play by themselves- they wont be afraid of you bu they wont interact much either.
  6. Starchky looks like a cinnamon opaline on my screen and Ozzie is either a greywing or spangle- need a better picture. Elvis and Snowy- greys, cinnamon and depending what the mother is hiding (also what Elvis is hiding.) Prince and Ozzie- Green spangles, normals. BLues only if Oz is split and depending on what the spot is on Prince could be pied or spangle spot. So not thinking very much today so I'll leave the technical stuff to someone else!!

Budgies in the wild do peck at insects and stuff. I put mealworms in the aviary for my quails and finches and a few brave budgies will have a nibble. Most of my birds love shredded cooked chicken though.

What colour are the feathers under her wings? (in her armpits as such!!) Green or blue?
  9. You might get little Wedgies (Weiro + Budgie)!! I have heard of a budgie/Lovebird once
  10. He looks like YF2 Rec pied greywing (have we done him b4?) Did you want the babies to look like him or to be darker? For them to be similar you would need a similar female as they (except the YF2) are all recessive traits so both parents should be greywing and recessive pied or split for it to show. Anyone??
  11. I think Elly has it all covered there!!!! If you cant get good quality hand rearing mix- use Farex (baby rice cereal- baby section at the supermarket) mixed up withwarm/hot water and one of the baby fruit/ vegie jars of puree. I have raised many on this stuff.

    I like Yodel best

Are the dimensions you mentioned of the purple cage? As compared to the size of the budgie in it in the picture, it looks big enough for two. Do you let them out? I know bigger is better but they do look like they have a bit of room in there, especially if they're let out to play. 35cm high x 60cm long and 40.5cm wide. It does sound smallish but the picture does look bigger,
  14. When you say that your foster pair already have babies so you cant foster these ones- you wouldnt be able to if they DIDNT have babies. You can mix both clutches together for the foster hen to look after. Good Luck
  15. no good mate- I dont think you should persist with these birds. BUT I will be down next weekend if you need somewhere for them  Nah seriously I like the top one best.... hang on I just had another look and I like the bottom one too. hee hee!!

hahahaha Too Funny!!!! Kissy Kissy NO KISSY!! Poor BLinks doesnt handle rejection too well by the looks of it!! (Laughing out loud)
  17. My old budgie was between the lounge and the kitchen- Ive never heard any bird talk so much as him. We ALWAYS left the radio or tv on while we were out to no bad effects. Still couldnt shut him up Mum would let him out in the morning and say go wake her up (me) so he'd fly down sit on my forehead and talk until I woke up- favourite words in the morning- Nyree wake up, cmon wake up," then go off on his little spiels like " oh you are such a pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty PRETTY BOY" (had tabs on himself didnt he!(Laughing out loud)) "BJ is such a pretty NAUGHTY BOY, your a s@#t!!" (a few other words as well) "Breakfast" come have breakfast" as he had brekky with us in his own bowl every morning. "Puss- wheres puss" Plus many many others
  18. hahahaha- what a little s@#t!! He is such a spunk- gorgeous bird!! Its always the cute ones that do it- cos they can get away with it!!
  19. Sounds like a normal male/female human relationship!! :grbud: My male feeds his hen but it does look as though she feeds him cos her head is on top- I had to watch them for ages this morning to work it out. I have heard that if the hen feeds the male it can mean he is sick- but you would notice if he was. Id put it all down to hormones and being together. Is it thier first times? Hopefully they'll work it out in time
  20. The "look" is even worse in person!! Ive never seen him so bad, his chicky is still following him around though so she must like it.
  21. :grbud: I just got so sad reading that. Poor babies, at least they went together- its still a sad story though
