  1. (Laughing out loud) @ Macka  okay I see NO POINT in keeping an animal alive if its suffering no matter whether you believe they can turn on endorphins so they dont feel pain or not. Do people suffering major illness turn on their endorphins? Not the ones I have seen slowly die in pain, So your saying that even though the animal cant feed itself or water itself, shits everywhere- on itself and is just a miserable wreck "lets keep it alive even longer- its okay it cant feel anything!" Shock is totally different to being seriously ill. Alot of pain relieving meds cause major damage to already defunct organs, which in turn causes more problems for the animal. Euthanasia should be seen to be helping the suffering animal- I hope I could have that choice when I'm that sick, I know what option Id pick. If you have a sick suffering bird and nothing can be done to make it better its okay for you to choose this option to help your friend. Dont prolong its suffering to save your conscience.
  2. Very cute- and exciting to have red eyes!! Rec pied looks male-ish...... Love the next pair to go down- the fallow and spangle, should be very pretty babies
  3. You can make an omelette for one person- with 40 eggs!!! :yellowhead: I shall come down and collect the eggs for you!!! OR I could put some pairs down at my house for you :yellowhead: hhmmmm....... 4 spare boxes!!!!
  4. Absolutely stunning birds Paul. What sort of size are they?? (normal or large?) From here looks to be girl Lute, boy creamino, is that what they are? You sure breed some good looking little ones :yellowhead:
  5. aaawwww- I know how he feels sometimes!!!! I thought baby budgies looked funny til I saw a newly hatched lovebird baby this morning!!!! (yay- not counting chickens.... not counting chickens....-I was told not to get too excited just yet!!) (Laughing out loud)
  6. Give them a call, even take a picture of it and email it with any info on the globe. Most places are happy to post out if you're sure you will get the correct one. I get all sorts of things posted to me- living where I do!! Makes it easier for you and it'll probably arrive before you get around to going to the shop!!
  7. Ha Ha- I missed this the first time round!! Coupla crownies in that topic Daz??
  8. Hey feathers- you arent talking about Kaye Kakoschke from WA? Her prefix is KK
  9. Kakoschke & Rice SA-5484 M Loveridge SA-3586 Barbara & John Fisher SA-102 (example from NAtionals page, ring numbers) Thanks Macka- he breeds little tarts doesnt he? They all seem to get around!! My fella is SA 877 02 Nothing special just a really big grey Ive had for ages
  10. Hey MAcka- Ive noticed alot of the SA birds at the nationals dont have a breeder prefix on their rings just SA xxxx - why is this and does it make it harder to track down the breeder? Most of the other states I noticed all do. Cheers
  11. Ive never seen them 'competing' for food- more like the others show them, they all head onto the seedbowl and the babies copy them. There are always a couple of 'surrogates' that like to take them under their wing!! The only time they would have to compete for food would be if you had an overcrowded aviary. I'm not colony breeding but I have. Also have 2 pairs set up by themselves in a 8x4' aviary as the hens dont settle in breeder cages- it works well for me as they have alot of space and I am home all day. The non breeders are in another large avairy.
  12. No the cock I have wth her now is a grey normal- that photo was taken about 18 months ago. The mauve spangle is now deceased (tumor) He is actually is SA bird, 02 rung- here is the only picture of him I have atm, going through a pretty rough moult about 6 months ago!! Poor thing The hen is only small but I was interested to see what colours she produced and she was also the only hen the big fella has been interested in!!
  13. okay- on the video camera as I broke the other one a while back. Photos to 'prove' I'm not talking s@#t (I could just see everyone rolling their eyes at my desription of her) she is also opaline (forgot to add) The light doesnt change it much just makes it slightly more intense- needed to see into the nestbox. old, old picture of her I did have a picture of her rump somewhere showing the violet in natural light and it is very similar to the first pics. Next to skyblues and cobalts looks very very strange- like a dark lavender flower We have an egg also! cocks split op/cinn greys, violets,blues,- not sure what blue she was bred from so will be interesting to see in a few weeks.
  14. nah she is definately cinnamon! I do understand that it has lightened the violet which has made her a lovely shade!! The grey is a single factor. I shall keep you updated if she lays- once they feather up.
  15. okay no pictures yet- Sorry!! I have a hen that is bright purple- no kidding!!. Now.... I spose until I see the babies I wont know how she is bred?? Its late and I thought I had it worked out before but Ive been thinking too much!! Also have paired her to a large grey- will the grey override the blue in the babies and will the violet have an effect on the grey? (she is cinnamon too) I have a few thoughts on what I will get but be good to hear everybodies ideas Pics later

Got a few piccies the other day. Put my inside boys into the aviary for a few hours- hilarious Big and Lil bro's!! I really dont belong out here- you do know that....right?? Kaz's Popeye with his 'boyfriend'! (thats why he had no babies!!) uummm I feel a trend here. Spunky and Olive (both boys too!!) Big bro and 'his boyfriend' hoppy- just really good friends....true!! http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d98/hair...es-dogs1006.jpg Some of the yellow aviary http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d98/hair...ies-dogs888.jpg Thats it for now- I have one pair down with 4 babies but those photos will be when there is something worth looking at!!!!
  18. Left is 5 months old- although he hasnt grown, only lost his bars, others are 6 weeks old!! "Fluffy cheeks"- unmistakable!! (4 weeks)
  19. hi there gorgeous hen you have there. Do you know if she has clearflight in her lines as I think its just Dom pied- no clearflight as she has other markings (belly patch). Clearflights as far as I know only have 'clear flights' no other patches anywhere hence the name.! Do you have an older picture of the male? Has the yellow bled onto his chest since he moulted? All blues normals Dom pieds opalines Yellow face and a combination of all!!
  20. Looks like dad is a YF2 skyblue greywing not a green? VERY VERY VERY cute babies!!
  21. The wing markings are normal so not a DF spangle Was she at your house when I was there? To me she looks like a greywing as I have one similar but I'm trying to work out if those spots on her mask are brown or not- which would change my thought. I have a cinnamon and a greywing that are both that colour. (there is also such a thing as a cinnamon clearwing but the colours dont look quite right for this.) maybe I should just say I really dont know!!
  22. Elly- I have recesive pied splits with the dot. (funnily enough they and all the breeders birds that do have this are hens) Here is the written proof you were looking for..... One must understand that this variety is not a sex-linked one, so the above expectations do not depend on which parent has which genotype, and the expectation applies to either sex. In some cases those Normal/Recessive Pieds "splits for convenience" show a small clear spot on the back of the head. breeding rec pieds This now shown- Dom pieds do also have the dot as do spangle bred birds. I really dont like that genetic table either Its too confusing for someone not 100% at genetics
  23. Paul Marshalls products Fvite is a clay like mineral powder- the birds help themselves to it
  24. I'm with Kaz!! Is he one of yours? (ie breed or buy?)
  25. Soft food I use: boiled eggs mashed, soaked polenta, grated carrot/apple, eggs shells I dry after boiling the eggs then grind them up and mix them in too. I know someone who soaks mungbeans, 1st grade wheat and grey sunflowers and adds to the mix. I also use Triticale soaked, My seed mix has a big range of seeds in it. will add picture as I dont know all of them!! Not just the usual budgie mix you get at petshops/stockfeeds. I add turbobooster to the seed/soaked seed, Fvite powder in small containers in the aviary. (Marshalls) When you are soaking your seed add avicleans to the water it prevents mould and stops bacteria (which is I guess why it gets smelly. Soak for 12 hours then drain in airy container overnight. (this is for mungbeans and such) Where abouts are you?
