  1. wow great explanations. Yep they will be Lutinos as I have a LONG history on the birds that tells me they will be Lutinos. Although... the second pair the split lute cock X op spangle greygreen. The breeding of the hen is :father DF spangle, Hen-op cinn skyblue. The first baby had plum eyes (pretty sure- will know for definate when it feathers up) how did this happen. The father had no cinn and it cant be passed from the mother can it? I also have her son he is a year or so old and cinnamon also (from a greygreen father.) Oh well time will tell the second baby is the Lute from these 2
  2. Why shankyou everyone!!!! We now have a little un from a split rec pied pair also. Havent anything else from the above 2 nests though. Plenty of time, I threw a few eggs out from the bottom pair a while back and she has a couple of foster eggs that were a bit later than hers, I should probably swap them again!! Just put down a light green and a grey spangle also and they seem to be getting along quite well. Still waiting for rings- so my luck will be the older chicks will be great as they wont have rings!!!!
  3. The eggs that didnt hatch- did you crack them open to see if they were DIS ..or dried yolk? Just curious. Sounds like you've been busy with this mutation.
  4. oh well- she looks light cinnamon on my screen in the first picture. Sorry Joey I was wrong.
  5. very handsome. I like him
  6. natural wood like branches from 'safe' trees are great for their feet and they like to chew them too- keeps them entertained. The dowling perches aren't so good as the nails dont get a grip on them to wear down, can also give the birds cramped feet being all the same smallish size. Variety in size is great. Clipping a budgies nails is like doing a cat or dogs- be aware of the quick running through the nail
  7. If its not coming directly from his rectum- ie the feathers around it, it could just be a blood feather- new feather broken off or he's pulled it too hard causing it to bleed a little- if it is this there is not much worry. If its coming from his rectum then yes- to the vet If it was coming from the rectum and the bird was a hen I might have been inclined to say eggbound.
  8. yep she looks like a cinnamon violet- the dilution might be from the cinnamon gene, it tends to wash the colour out of the body. So cinnamon violet hen X sky opaline cock (has he got violet in him too?)
  9. yep very happy!!!!!!!!! :hap: Havent got many but love the ones I have- no more room for lots!! I'll have to do an aviary upgrade soon too!! Big thanks to the man they are from and to you for the introduction!!
  10. yep both hens. ( I read Kaz response and looked again, then I scrolled down and read the rest!! Thought I was going mad :hap:
  11. okay I pulled some piccies from the depths of my computer first pair- greygreen hen and lute cock Greygreen cock & spangle hen (not a good picture)
  12. Agree with Macka- first 2 are green, next looks grey/green and the last light green. (are the last 2 spangle -cant see?) The blue around the legs and vent is normal- alot of my light greens from a certain family are born with blue around the vent, legs and a smidgen under their wings. It disappears with age.

library's have an internal loan thingy set up so if you want a certain book they can get it for you from another library that stocks it. Just gotta know what you are after. I search the internet then whenever I find something I can use now or in the future or think is interesting I download or print it and keep in a folder. :dbb1:
  14. Have a few pairs down at the moment and in the last week we have a few new additions arrive Pair 1 is a Lute cock and a greygreen hen and the first of 7 eggs hatched last night- a little Lute!! Pair 2 is a Greygreen Op/Lutino cock and a greygreen spangle op hen- 1 normal (poss cinnamon-dont know how though!!) and the 2nd one is a Lute also. Also have a green Op cock and a Lute hen sitting on eggs. So hopefully I'll get a few nice Lutes for next year. No pics as the new camera has decided it doesnt do budgies....grrrrrr... they all come out really blurred unless I manually focus them and I couldnt be bothered today!! (also until they get feathers I dont reckon they're worth photoing!! *so bored, other half is on night shift and its so cold and windy outside. I have a bird sitting on my head talking to himself(and pooping on me no doubt!!) so at least someone is having fun!! Thanks for listening to my dribble again :dbb1: :ausb:
  15. Sounds about right- also factor in the Violet in the outcomes.
  16. female albinos have a brown/tan cere- the males stay a pinky purply colour. Budgies breed just about whenever but usually spring, mine will breed anytime throughout the year. Just dont have nesting boxes in the avairy and there wont be any problems stopping them.
  17. wow, the little cobalt spangle is looking good.
  18. looks like an opaline spangle
  19. Very Nice!! Love the greygreen fella he is gorgeous. Also like the grey spangle.
  20. Yep all of them!! Well until I know which ones are worth keeping. The youngest green is very small but the other 3 should moult out okay, the green and the green pied are the best hopes I'm hoping the pieds mask will stretch out during the moult. Last clutch were smaller than usual but just starting to moult now and most are improving, mask is getting longer and heads are lookin better.
  21. Good luck, sometimes it takes a little while for the first feed.
  22. Last round for this pair are now feathered and for the first time we have no opalines, I could have sworn the pieds would have ended up opaline as their down was very light. dad disrupting the gang had to include this- kinda spongebobish with the square head!!(Laughing out loud) (mid fluff) Also have down greygreen opaline/greygreen spangle (1 fertile so far) Lutino/ greygreen opaline (4 eggs) Blue & grey split rec pieds (3 eggs) grey op,split albino / lutino green /lutino (3 eggs- havent checked yet) fingers crossed we get something real nice!!!
  23. congrats on the little pied- yep mum 'must' be split rec pied.
