  1. I've always used 'Farex' baby cereal (from the supermarket and the youngest age one) mixed with water and baby food puree. It has worked on budgies, weiros (tiels) and parrots. You will have to feed them more often than you are planning too though unless mum is feeding a little still. When mine were real young (1 day til about 2 weeks) it was 2-3 hour feeds then spaced it out from that age until they were weaned onto seed. I think these days you can get premade handrearing formula- I have never used it so can't give you my thoughts on it.
  2. He's looking very grown up in those pics! Very 'Pretty' boy
  3. I have a very large female who I noticed laying down on top of one of the nest boxes the other day with her head hanging over the side (thinking she was dead as she was a bit overweight when I got her) but have realised now its just 'her thing' to do!!
  4. Picked up a couple of new birds the other day while in Perth, one is a green spangle cock the other a blue hen Also have had three eggs hatch so far from these two: sorry I seem to have 'forgotten' how to post after all this time!!
  5. Ta- I was just editing them so thats why they prob didn't show up for you.- when I moved them on my post the first bit was left out! He's turned into a right little monkey getting everything, he's just started talking and eating my food and trying to bath in whatever i'm drinking. I'm expecting him to have his first moult soon as his face is getting a little scruffy!!
  6. Am I only getting one picture come up?? I've tried to change it but its not happening for me!!
  7. This has quickly become our favourite game, throwing toys off and putting them back on! He seems to use some of the best karate moves to do it too!! I'm just gonna sit here lookin cute and innocent Down this side.....Nah tricked you Maybe the other side?... Look I'm a seal!! Now HOW did that get down there??? Hey thats my ball..someone stole it! Now who left their toast up here? I better clean up.
  8. Gee she's abig girl isn't she. Absolutely beautiful though. She looked like an opaline to me too- same sort of look as my fella-- Hope they have lovely babies for you.
  9. I've always used 'Farex' baby cereal with baby fruit/vegie puree mixed in with water- long as you keep them warm and feed them frequently for the first few weeks they should be fine. Make sure whatever mix you use isn't to thick or 'dry' so they don't get impacted(?) crops where it hardens instead of digesting. I use a syringe to feed them, and either a heatpad or heat lamp(lightglobe) but get a coloured one(blue?) as not to stress them out with the light
  10. One of my birds also had two husbands...actually she had one and then I think the 'hubby' had a 'hubby'!! As the other male would feed him and be attentive to him while he looked after the female. He has since left her (sitting on eggs) for another woman (recently introduced for the spare male) so I now have two normal(?) pairs. He still visits her sometimes- both batches have been fathered by him although the other male is looking after his 'step'family beautifully. Not how I had planned it but thats life hey.
  11. any chance of a picture so we can understand better? Is it large patches of white or scattered? And Welcome
  12. Congrats and good luck with the babies, what colour parents do you have??
  13. Zeuss and Budha gorgeous. Budhas' wings look so long compared to the size of him!!
  14. I'm lucky where I live we have many varieties of gum/eucalypt growing around here, my birds always have a branch(half a bush!!) in the aviary they chew, roost in, land on, fall off they love it. I replace it regularly with fresh ones but even when its dried they will still chew on it. I have no idea what exact medicinal properties it has apart from being a natural vegie/plant extract but my birds are all extremely healthy and a few I have got as scruffy unwanted adults are lookng smooth and sophisticated(!!) I usually grab a branch when I go out the bush with the dogs.
  15. Thats a classic!! Love the pics!! Very beautiful birds
  16. Good luck with the pups and labour- if there IS only 4/5 in there your lucky my ***** had 14!!! (She is a bigger dog though!) I had to hand feed some of them 3 times a day to help her out. Is it her first lot? New pups are SO exciting (and messy)
  17. This isn't based on anything scientific, but we have always had wattle trees on the farm and always put it in the aviaries for the birds to chew/roost in/ generally distruct! with no mishaps. Where I'm living now has a different type of wattle but I still use it. I'm only going on the fact I haven't had any sick/dead birds at any stage.
  18. That makes sense. Yeah tinge showing through just on rump- but kinda like the photos Cheers guys!
  19. the pie replied to Boomberry's topic in Budgie Pictures
He's a pretty boy. Are you going to tame him up or is he in with other birds?
  20. I saw a budgie today that at first glance was an albino- white/ red eyes, looking harder I realised it was very slightly tinged blue towards the rear (kinda like the one in budgie pictures-willsbrook/my white budgie) with very faint bars on its head- although they were that faint I may have been imagining it, or it could have been brown dirt! Just wanting your thought on this slightly blue tinged albino budgie-female w/brown cere- its had me thinking today!! sorry can't get a photo it was in a shop
  21. Nope that is DEFINATELY the Hokey Pokey!! "and then you turn around!!" I absolutley luurvve the yellows of Curry/Lailas and Sashas you have -verypretty. Also Kaya and sonnys yellow face blue is the image of the little fella I have here
  22. Keep his spirits up, hopefully it will get better for him. Sophie is beautiful- very delicate. I do love pieds the best I think!!
  23. how cuute.. and how quick they have grown- I can see the cinnamon colour on my screen. I love that black beak too.
  24. Thanks for all your comments guys- He is starting to melt my heart more than I thought he would!! Also glad cos he's been my little rock through a tough time!! The little buggers are really addictive though aren't they??
  25. Nice birds and aviary you have - I really like Tootie, Ringo and Pie the best then Echo and Berry because I haven't seen a "normal" blue budgie for ages (or green for that matter they are all`fruit salads' these days!!)
