Quite interesting, I have linebred ferrets and working dogs(mine) but not birds with a similar structure. I shall have to work out what % my ferrets are to the original workers.

Well done- wished I could have been there, I am in town for a few weeks but circumstances made me feel I should be at home at the moment. Maybe next time. Was it a good turnout for the first Sat meeting? Might pop over to the other site later and find out.
  5. You never know- could have been the birds fault too- bird out, dog sniffs bird, bird latches violently onto dog nose/tongue, which causes dog to fling bird onto ground and jump onto it to get it off. My dogs are good with my bird inside but wouldnt leave unsupervised. They don't pay any attention to my aviaries but catch doves around the yard for an afternoon snack.
  6. He is lovely. I am a bit shocked- a bird dealer that knows mutations and can sex a bird!!
  7. woot woot! feathers soon....
  8. Actually being a lute the cere won't go a deep blue- if its a male it will be a pinky purple colour. Sounds like a hen though. Don't stress too much about the vet- I have yet to find a decent one!! With the wings being clipped the bird might sulk for a bit but keep her with you on your shoulder (if it doesnt bite too much) and use it as a time to bond.
  9. I keep a cat in mine- seems to do the trick..... (Laughing out loud) sorry couldnt help myself- can I blame the heat!! I go hard every now and again with poison- must keep an eye our though as the mice poo green poison afterwards and I reckon its something the birds would try.
  10. hhmmm... Sparky, or Blaze, (Stinker, Sweaty? (Laughing out loud))
  11. If it was from the parents you'd be better off culling them instead of selling them- someone else may start breeding with them. Hopefully its just an environment thing- cute pair of runners you have!!
  12. (Laughing out loud)- I have a little one from a spangle cock / split Rec pied hen pairing, he has the spot....now from which one?? I think its just a faint spangle dot!!
  13. Keep an eye on the others in case is isnt just the heat - we have weeks at a time of 40-45C and have never lost a bird, give the aviary and ground around it a hose in the middle of the day to cool the air temp a bit
  14. Nope just recessive chicks A breeder I got birds from a while ago explained it to me, showed me her birds and years of records- thats when I brought it up on the forum and got bagged, but a lot of breeders seem to be using it to identify splits and successfully breed pieds from it.
  15. Where I live- over summer we frequently have weeks at a time of 40-45 degrees, my birds are all outside but I do hose the aviary during the day and freshen the waters so they are cool. They usually spend the day on the floor in the peak heat hours but after I hose the aviary down they cruise around chatting for a bit while its cool. If the hen returns to the nest at night and when it starts to cool down there is a big chance they will be okay. My fingers are crossed I guess breeding during summer where you are isnt usually a problem- just the freak heat wave upsetting things!!
  16. :budgiedance: cany see pics- just the clearwing hen. Sounds like you both got a good mix of babies from those pairings- no doubt you were surprised
  17. yep a cobalt YF2. If mum is a YF2 as well(by the sounds of it) then the other baby wont be a type 1 but will bleed the colour through after his moult- still a type2
  18. (Laughing out loud) I have found that brother/sister are very attracted to each other- even after they have been apart for sometime and from different litters...umm clutches.

Just a tip- keep the calcivet up to the young hen as I found without it the younger hens are more prone to get egg bound. Good luck they look nice, I really like the yellow face grey with the opaline blue hen pairing. :budgiedance:
  20. He does show up quite light- he is from a line of cinnamons I have here, and I agree he is quite good looking- except at the moment he has an orange face from feeding/softfood and has a reddy/pink tinge to his feathers from our red dirt up here.!! Got some pics of the young fella today - just like dad!! and this little one again as he gets cuter by the day
  21. They will be interesting to see feather up- glad to see you still have him!!
  22. I have paired 2 birds with these spots and have had Rec pieds in the nest.
  23. He is the dad- grey cinnamon spangle Havent got any already done of him- here is a few I have. Also an old picture of the youngest, just like dad.
