  1. Lol- I wish!! I must have missed this- sorry to keep you all waiting!!! Love the picture Kaz!! Little fella arrived a bit early- Friday 20 June. All well came home Sunday morning. Came home to find eggs in my breeder cages *very happy* birds i have had trouble with seem to like the new set-up. Now fingers crosed they hatch
  2. the pie replied to a post in a topic in Budgie Pictures
    excellent looking birds Throwback
  3. Lol @ contaminated. Bet the wallabies were cleaner after the desection than the beef/lamb from the abbatoirs! It definately would have been fresher than the meat at the shop. Most of my meat comes from the bush/station, shot, cleaned and cut-up by myself. Some people would cringe at how its done but all very healthy
  4. The reds are better imo If you were closer I could supply you with all sorts of game meats to try in your recipes, the other half spotted your sig the other night and had to have a look- loves his camp ovens, even kicked me off here!!! A mate does smoked rootail, joints it and pickled/smokes them quite nice.
  5. Passionate subject hey?? MB- that roo thing was ridiculous the way it got out of hand. They did a similar cull of rabbits in central park(?? i think thats the one), but they have only just let the public know after that fact, 12 months later!! Just have to keep the media out of it! I laugh when I hear the activists say roo's are endangered they obviously dont get out the city too often. Lol MB!! Definately a certain way to get a feral cat out of a trap- quite similar to what the vet was trying but stand back a bit further
  6. Looking good birdluv ]How do you guys keep your gardens going? Doesnt it get mighty cold and snow where you are (am I naive?LOL) mmm spose it snows here too!! (not where I am though) Neat- what more could you want than grass and a vegie patch I just wish I could do that!! It seems as soon as my vegies takeoff and start looking good we get a week of 40+ degrees and they dont like it
  7. I heard about that in the last few years Derek, interesting but one animal that I'm not real keen on cooking up (they smell) The Gov or any dept dont have ongoing cat control in place as they do with dogs and foxes as feral cats arent scavengers that is they wont readily accept a bait or walk into a trap, they like to hunt and they like fresh food. Domestic and feral cats can also jump 2 mtrs so that is not just a thing the 'new' breed of cat can do. Good luck with catching sterilising and rehoming a feral cat, let me know when you will try it and I will set the video camera up and run far far away!!!! CAHEAO- there is a feral cat season it goes from 12am Jan 01 until 11.59pm Dec 31st!! Anytime of the day or night all year round, I like your dad! You will find most hunters despise feral cats and will go out of their way to get rid of any around, good thing for conservation. I dont have a problem with cats in town if they are looked after and I have noticed a huge reduction in houses that own cats in the last 5-10 years. Not that the 'town' feral cat numbers is decreasing their population is healthy as ever- yes thats also a job I get to deal with.
  8. Mb- she is more than likely a Banded Aust Dominant pied if she has a straight band as there arent alot of Dutch pieds around. Most Aust pieds you see are variegated Aust pied, much more common

where abouts were the stick nest rats, were they on the mainland? ( i take it your in Vic?) I trapped something about 8 yrs ago I'm still trying to work out what it was(it was released-no pics). I would have said it was a Boodie but apparently they dont exist on the mainland here any more, I didnt find this out until yrs later. Wish I could recapture it and know for sure. I think they dingo in its pure form is getting endangered, more so over east. Still getting alot of 'pure' ones here sent some DNA samples off a few weeks ago so should be interesting, although one dog was a huge brindle thing but not far from a station so who knows what it had in it.
  10. the pie replied to **KAZ**'s topic in Pest Control
Not many of them left hey MB? I'm a lic dingo controller and also get the chance to clean up feral cats/goats in the wild amazing how many cats you can get out of certain areas in a week!
  11. Use the yolks as well Neat, crush them up together.

My mum uses the concrete/flour mix, it actually works then she leaves little dishes of water around for them!. Not any more cruel that ratsac doesnt take any longer either.
  13. Fresh beetroot not tinned!! Looking forward to seeing them feather up, they should be pretty.
  14. the pie replied to **KAZ**'s topic in Pest Control
No good Kaz, wouldve been heart breaking to walk out to that A few months ago one of the bird papers had an article on rats, they reckon they get a desire for meat when they have young. This would probably coincide with the last attack, the young from last time having their first litter maybe.
  15. Violet, (australian) dominant pied (with or without opaline- yet to be determined!!)

Hiya Little one, hope your all sorted with the school stuff now
  18. Plenty of room for that Lib! Thought I'd update, birds went in today, heaps of room in there for them (and any new ones ) definately due for some more, I have thought hard about what I need to add but am due the weekend the auction is on oh well, will be going to Perth after so hope to catch up with some breeders then Have put breeding cages in the spare one for now, seems to work well so far have added more since the picture was taken. They have been so noisy all afternoon Got my good ones in the breeding cages and a couple in the aviary at the old place until tomorrow The others and a few culls that will be going to a friends house when I get around to it. Scrubber cage (poofter cage for obvious reasons!)- these birds arent show birds, just pets, old birds, my little pegleg and others, all have some attachment and they are spoilt rotten like my others. (Kaz- popeye low right) Few of the lovebirds, most of these are young so they are doing the scaredy thing, have my Nyasa on eggs at the old house still They've all got about 2.5m x 2m to fly around in now Put a campoven roast on for lunch Well guarded by the pup!!!! Next job will be a driveway up to the back shed and get rid of all this bulldust
  19. Might have to hire a car trailer for half a day, heaps of room and not so expensive.
  20. the pie replied to a post in a topic in Aviaries
me too- they're less than a week old
  21. Looks great
  22. I used to use divetelac (sp) Go and try your local second hand shop/good sammies and ask for any old pillow cases, sheets, blankets that they arent able to sell. Even rags as you will need a few of these after feeding to make them go to toilet /clean up after! Old elec blankets I dont think the second hand shops are allowed to sell so see if they'll pass them on as well. Try and order a box of teats wholesale as you will go through a few and buying them a few at a time is frustrating and the shop wont have the one you need in an emergency, get a few different types I had a roo that didnt like the roo ones for ages so had to trial him on a few.
