  1. Hugs to you both. My goodness, you have had some tough times of late. Glad that Cricket is home. Hope Ken isn't seriously hurt from his fall.
  2. My two newest budgies I think are Dark Eyed Clear Males - one white; one yellow. I wanted to use the genetics calculator http://www.gencalc.com/gen/eng_genc.php?sp=0Budg to "virtually" pair them with some of my females, but I wasn't sure what options to select for a DEC. Does anyone know?
  3. Do you have some pictures for us?

Very pretty birds!!! What are their mutations?
  5. Kirby, I think the resizing depends on the size of your original image. Try downloading Microsoft Picture Resizer. It is free and you can just right click on an image and choose a size or enter a custom size. Pictures are resized in seconds and ready to upload to photobucket. You mentioned selling your babies. Do you do this at petshops or privately. Just curious. I hope to sell privately.
  6. Great pics!!! Does Sunny have a violet tummy. Sure doesn't look cobalt in those pics.
  7. Those look great for budgies. I've used undied popsicle sticks for toys and they still love to chew on them.

Welcome!! Lots of great info here and we love pictures!!!
  11. Good luck with these two Kirby!
  12. I look forward to this post every day. If I don't have time to look at others, I always check in here to get my fill of budgie news and beautiful photos. I MUST have that violet baby. Gorgeous. I'm getting very anxious to put up my first pair. Oh winter hurry up and get here! Did I just say that? I hate winter. Keep the news and photos coming!!!!!!
  13. I just put a bit of water in the sink and plunk them in. I then splash a little on them. I always give them one bath when I first bring them home to get rid of the "petstore stink" and then it is really up to them. Sometimes they bath in their water dishes. Occasionally I mist them.
  14. What a lucky budgie to have you. Keep us posted on his progress. He is a fine looking budgie - great colour!!!!
  15. I LOVE MY FLOCK! It really is cool when they are flying. Of course the clipped birds are temporarily disabled, but at least they are learning some out of cage manners and boundaries, and will soon have the freedom of the others. Sylvester, Tweety, and Wylie zip around the house withouth any trouble.
  16. I hope the new nest and improved mating skills will help you with a clutch. I'll be watching for updates.

My dream budgie - the YF spangle. So pretty!!!!
  18. Well since I've clipped the Beka, Pudd, Daff, and Star, I've been able to bring all of the birds out of the cage at the same time. It is so cool to see them all in the tree together. And if anyone wonders why I'm so addicted to budgie, just look at all that colour. Here they all are. Some more group shots. Look at how golden Jewel's yellow is becoming. Wylie looking stunning as always And little Monty is still in quarantine so can't come out to play . Instead he got a bath.
  19. Neat Pics! Would it be safe to hang a CD in the cage. I'm sure they'd be fascinated with such a thing?
  20. I had a couple of budgies as a teenager (rehomed from my Nan). But I wasn't really into them then. It wasn't until December 05 that my mom's budgies had a little baby. It was a shock because we thought they were the same sex. Anyway, watching the baby develop was the most amazing thing. I decided to get a pair in January with the hopes of breeding them. But in the process of researching budgies and joining this forum, I realized that they were likely siblings and I couldn't breed them. So I then got two more. And then two more, and so on. Now I have 13. I have learned a lot about mutations and have tried to choose a variety of birds to get the outcomes I desire. (My YF2 spangle ) I won't be breeding for profit and I'm prepared to keep any and all babies I might have if I can't rehome to suitable owners. My budgies are spoiled, live in a huge indoor flight cage, have tons of toys, healthy food choices, etc. They give me so much pleasure and after a stressful work day, I just sit in the room with them and listen to them chatter, or watch them play in their tree. I'm anxious for winter to arrive so I have a few pairs that are old enough. I will start with one pair. Here's hoping they can produce a successful clutch! I'll be sure to share the journey with you all.

I have 13 budgies and a mixture of clipped and unclipped birds. I have been able to work with all of my budgies that came clipped. And to this day, even though their feathers have grown back, I can easily get the to step up and return them to their cage. But four of my budgies came unclipped and I have never been able to tame them. In fact they seem terrified of me and have remained "wild". I've been feeling bad for them because they haven't been able to have out of cage flight time. When they are out of the cage, they are terrified and smash and bang into things. In most cases, I need a net to get them back in. So this week I clipped them. And I have made a ton of progress with them. Not only has Daffy been out of the cage for the first time, she is stepping up onto a perch and onto my finger. And I've only been nipped a few times. Puddin', Beka, and Star are coming along too. I don't plan on keeping their wings clipped. I'm just doing this so they can get used to me, the perch, and my finger for step-up. Once they grow back in they will be able to soar with my other (previously clipped) birds.
