I Got Some Really Cute Pictures With My Budgies!
Really?? Thats wierd....Thanks for letting me know! It is changed now, yep I had to look twice and thought that is a really pretty boy then I looked and said NO WAY definitely female

Is This Unhealthy?
I would also not let budgies breed if the weather is not going to be right for fledging or laying. That may be why the other eggs were not successful were the conditions of the breeding room/aviary.

Poppy's Genetics
do you have any more of when he was feathered up more? The tail as Nerwen is throwing me off as that seems like it is spangle tail The cere should have changed by now...is it still bright pink or some blue?

1 Question
well to breed a double factor spangle all you need to do is breed them yourself by starting by breeding 2 spangles together. You have a 25% chance of getting a double factor spangle. as for the yellowface you would breed 2 yellow face spangles or 1 yellow face spangle to get the above possibility.

Nationals Winners...held In Adelaide 2007
Can I agree to disagree or disagree to agree or whatever that statement is. You are right there are many dogs, cats, budgies and other types of animals that are breed soley for the look and not for the health. Cabela our mini pin rescue is an example as he was rescused from a puppy mill at the age of 5yr old. Cabela was bred and bred for the prime use of producing puppies. Very sad . Are there some breeders on these boards that mill budgies probably are there many that don't YES. I felt like you did not long ago until I became more knowledgable about the show side, met members such as Daz, macka, Kaz and others who have open my mind to what "responsible" breeding of exhibition budgies is. My own bird Merlin who is part English has given me a new way of looking at show budgies vs our pet budgies such as my Pretty who died before the age of 2 years old from an unknown cause. Because of these member above there are many who are now joining BBC to learn about responsible "show breeding" and "showing their birds" and along with long time members who are now getting interested. In fact just 6 months back there was an out pour of those who wanted to learn more and Daz took a lot of time answering questions and I along with Kaz and Feathers added them to the BBC FAQ so others could learn and learn more about the hobby of breeding show budgies. Here is are BBC FAQ's for Show Budgies http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...tion=show&cat=3 Your statement will cause a flare up mainly because you have "lumped" all exhibition members/budgies together by saying "I know the winning show bird look is fashionable and "desirable" to many, but I'm sorry, I just don't like it. It just does not seem beneficial to the future of the species." When you pull this statement apart you are saying (though you probably don't mean it) that our members who show are not breeding for healthy, longivity and more.... Please don't take it that I am attacking you in anyway, I am not. I am a simple "non-shower pet owner" that is stating what I have seen yoour statement to say (though you may have not meant to say it that way). Looking at pictures is not a good way to judge if it is right are wrong there are SO many aspects. In ending who is to say because those who are used to the "pet" looking budgie are healthier and not milled just because it looks more appealing to our eye. The same as the show budgie...yes it doesn't look like their "wild" cousin but neither do the pet budgies. I see more pet budgies being thrown in cages wilth a sales sticker on them and more in rescues then I see "show type" what statement does that tell us? Just don't be surprised if you get a few angry responses.

Big Lump
From our FAQ section: If bleeding is occurring from the skin: Minimize the birds movement Carefully pluck feathers from the area of injury Clean wound with warm water or 1% hydrogen peroxide Apply antibiotic powder If stitches are required to close the wound, see your avian veterinarian Apply digital pressure to the site of bleeding for approximately 1 minute. the whole article Bleeding Budgie BBC FAQ As to replace blood loss there is nothing you can do and those few drops are probably what made her so tired plus the struggle. I would keep her warm, continue to give her the sugar water as you did for energy, keep her quiet as possible even if she looks recovered. Too keep her from picking at it you may want to think of a collar and there is spray that stops feather picking but I don't think you would want to put that on her lump. She sees herself as cleaning the area so this is a tough situation. You may want to PM phoebe and see if she has advice on this since she has been there with her rosey.

Tame Budgies

Handfeeding Here And Then
I agree totally with both Norm and Ann too much can go wrong and when you can handle them daily that is best.

Is This Unhealthy?
I have always read 2 clutchs and then a break. Could you imagine having baby after baby with never a rest that is not a life either. So though they could do it don't you think they deserve a rest?

2nd Pair - Romeo And Sebby
yes she has 2 fallow genes to visually express this gene (for the general public don't get it mixed up with only needing 1 sex-linked gene to visually show in hens). Fallow is a recessive gene. okay...as Nerwen said the fallow gene is probably diluting the mauve gene so she is carrying 2 dark factors as well which is why she would have a cobalt off spring. The dark factors are not mutations but added factors in the color of the bird. Kind of like adding say more paint to the mixture to make different colors. Hope that makes sense. Fallows yes can carry other genes as well example you could have an opaline fallow. There are some genes that are on the same allele and some are not. If they are not that is how you get double or even triple mutations on one bird. I think that was what you were asking yes?

Small Lump
welcome back, I would take Nerwen's suggestions and have it checked by and avian vet that would be best as we are only throwing out guesses.
