Yes you can. Most types of fruit and vegetable are safe but you should always search online or in a book before you feed something to your budgie. Some vegetables that are commonly fed are lettuce, carrot, broccoli, sprouts, snow peas, spinach and celery. Lettuce and celery shouldn't be fed too often as they are mostly water and can cause diarrhoea. Some safe vegetables are rock melon, banana, mandarin, orange and apple. Be sure never to feed your budgie apple seeds or avocado as these are toxic to them. 2. If there are no other mutations invovled that you can see you will have 100% green opalines. If you can post a picture of your birds that would be most helpful. Of course there are always surprised with the recessive genes or an sex-linked genes that the male can pass to his hens visually. Good luck :ausb:
  3. ((hugs))
  4. How is your bird today Dave? ((hugs)) Daz :ausb:
  5. tell Steel he can preen but that is it (Laughing out loud) :ausb: I can't wait to see the pics of the gorgeous boy.
  6. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q265/al...Olivenormal.jpg Aly's bird in the first picture Nerwen not really my question is how can this be labelled a yellow face olive when (even though it is now labeled a grey green). Green birds are not labelled yellowfaced though as Norm said there are article written up about if a green does carry the gene. So what I am understanding from what you have taught me is that a green bird is a green bird :ausb: no yellow face attached while a blue based bird can have a yellow face. So since olive is 2 dark factors in a green bird there is no such thing as a YF Olive or even Green Gray Bird at this time. Do you follow me :hap: so if this bird is a Yellow Face blue it must be either one of the shades of blue, sky, cobalt or mauve yes? It can't be an olive.
  7. ???? good one Elly, He He He!!! was that too late or too early... :hap: :(Laughing out loud):  My question is being ignored Norm
  8. sounds like he is sick 1. I would take it back 2. if you want the bird have it checked over by an avian vet make sure you quarantine too
  9. I would read this article from our FAQ FINDING YOUR BUDGIE there is good advice in trying to locate your budgie. As for replacing him you don't have too. Merlin lost Pretty 3 months ago. Yes Merlin depended on Pretty but we have adjusted. If you do get another one remember you should quarentine for 30 days before they met. Good luck.
  10. how cute is that glad you figured it out
  11. ???? :offtopic:

  13. Pretty wasn't a yellow face and his tail was a gorgeous teal
  14. great advice and plain yogurt if he will eat it is a great source of good bacteria for his tummy but small amounts since it is diary.

    excellent job :budgiedance:
  17. From the time you see them actually do the "deed" if you do, most are pretty active in the morning it is usually about 10-14 days (each bird varies). You can check out our Breeding FAQ for more information too http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...tion=show&cat=7

Welcome...I saw your pics they are gorgeous Before you get started we have a great FAQ section about breeding BBC FAQ Breeding Section we have a lot of information there and if you see something that needs to be added just let one of our global moderators know. We have a section called Breeding Journals excellent place to start reading through our member's journals. It is interesting to follow the journey as they learn the ups and downs about breeding pet type and show type budgies.

Beautiful birds and welcome You have a beautiful skyblue normal male and a pretty yellow face type 2 mauve hen If you would like to add one of the pics to the budgie of the month contest for July that would be awesome. I love the second picture how he has his head cocked, like he is trying to listen or tell her something.

is she is breeding condition where her cere is brown, for many hens chewing is a very natural thing in the wild they are the ones to dig out and make the hole for the nest etc... so i really wouldn't be concerned

are they females? I have heard they can demolish cuttlebones

it sounds like a respiratory infection of some sort but without having an avian vet check her over there is nothing we can say to really confirm. I wonder what her fate will be at the pet store , so sad the whole situation.
  23. welcome to the FAQ club Here it is in Print (Laughing out loud) there will be a picture added of Kaz's box and maybe some edits from our editor Aly (feathers)
  24. Pretty's tail was like that too and he was a skyblue recessive pied. I do believe it is normal coloration. He was not a yf so can't contribute it that mutation . We loved to keep his tail feathers during his molt because they were such a gorgeous teal color.
  25. I would darken the room that will keep him more settled Vonn and not promote him to fly as much. Vitamins in the water will be fine, you may just want to check with the vet but he should be on them anyways.
