this was a great topic, so I added to the FAQ section

Handling The Chicks?
birds abandoing their nest is an old wives tale believe it or not. I remember listening to a wildlife seminar and them saying if you see a baby bird leave it because the mother is there. If they are young and they fell out and you can see the nest to pop them back in there unless you can tell they are fledging. Birds do not have a good sense of smell so they can not pick up on the human scent as though and abandon the babies . by the way I added this topic to the FAQ section too.

not sure what you mean by damage them? But 2 of the same sex birds are an excellent choice therefore you don't have an accidently breeding issues .

Antibiotics can be a help but a hinder because they have found that they do kill the good bacteria as well as the bad. This is why rabbits in particular are so hard to treat with antibiotics. I found this out first hand with our rabbit we had. I would keep him calm as you can and I know he has open space but flying is not good. This is the perfect reason why he should be used to a cage. Therefore if he ever needed to be warmed to a particular tempature because he was sick he would be comfortable with being in a cage. I really think you need to work on having him cage bound at least for the night...of course do not stress him at this point. As for the dive bombing this can be a hormonal thing. Remember we were thinking he was hormonal and he is doing it to get your attention. You are probably his favorite and he is doing this for attention this is why he is doing it to you.

Congrats on getting your newest addition. I know you were going back and forth on it. The one thing that concerns me is that you didn't mention that you quarantined your new bird from Konard. Directly from our FAQ section: Quarantine is the best way in protecting your existing birds from the introduction of infectious disease. It is also to determine whether or not the new bird or birds are diseased and then to treat the problem. The quarantine cage is where all new birds are housed and ideally it should be in a completely different room where there is no airborne or physical contact. Recommend days for quarantine are at least 30 days (1 month). Avian Vets recommend 90 days (3 months) for best results as many illness can lay dorminate. It is strongly recommended you quarantine! If you don't, you could lose all your budgies! Here is the rest of the article Quarantine Program (BBC FAQ) by Daz Figaro is a very pretty hen (you have he but I am sure it is a she). Love the pics and video.

Budgies I Stole From My Taxi Driver
I see the yellow more around the neckline but would so the olive part is correct or would it be a mauve or colbat with the yellow washing it then since it is a white based bird not a yellow. I thought olive was a yellow based bird with 2 dark factors. You following me? Can you point out the different things Kaz said to look for in a visual skyblue violet. Not just for me but others too :budgiedance:. Yes I think she said OUT NOW...I don't think I want to be in a dark alley with this bird Thank you :budgiedance:

Anthracite Breeders
A single anthracite factor produces a darkening effect extremely similar to a single dark factor (producing cobalt). A budgie that is double-factor anthracite appears as the true anthracite with the black body color. This gene is semi-dominant. This gene is not a grey gene but an added factor on its own from what I understanding from the explanation above.

"who Are The Parents?"
what is weird? The answer is Pair 3 , Pair 1 would be impossible.

Lukie Ill Again..
What you can do to get him to start seeing his cage as his home is adding his favorite toys, food etc...ONLY in his cage. I wouldn't bam change it over night you know. If this doesn't work then cover up your windows with darkening shades, curtains to darken the room and then when you come in you can open them up for light. I do believe it is hormonal. I wouldn't squirt him with water if he doesn't like it. Having that he had a hard start and you have gained trust you don't want to work on breaking it. You need to work on positive enforcement. Example....if he goes in his cage take a millet spray and let him eat some by holding it on the outside of the back of the cage. The encourages him to stay in the cage, go to the back while rewarding his good behavior. If you come from the front of course he will see you and fly out. Be creative...if you again can't get him to enjoy his cage you may find that darkening the room is the solution.

What Should I Add To My Cage
You need to put your have your bird cages & birds in a well lite room. They need light just like all creatures to survive along with the sun for Vitamin D. The perches I would take out and put in all natural ones and put them in the cage longwise so they can fly back and forth. Keep the perches close to the sides. You can put a couple perches across maybe one up high and a couple down lower. So example the one on the side is okay but the one directly in the middle take out so they can use that for flying room. Add some spiral rope perches etc... You may want to add some preening toys there are a lot out there so you can encourage mental stimulation. Make sure the food and water is not located under any perches. Also that it change daily. This is an ideal cage for budgies with some improvement and taking the advice of those on the forum you will find your budgies to be happier and healthier. Having them in dark corner or room is one reason why you probably found them sick.

The Twinz
I agree with Dave and would add in there Yellow Face Type 2 they look cobalt in the picture. There are 2 types of yf ...I believe I see the yellow starting to bleed into the chest area. Cute birds..

Budgies I Stole From My Taxi Driver
Beautiful birds.... Can I ask how an olive bird be a yellowface? I thought olive was 2 dark factors in a green bird and only blues are yellowfaces? (I have read the discussion about greens carrying the yf but that is only in theory) or am I missing that he is a blue bird? :budgiedance: How can you tell the first one is carrying the violet gene? Curious Love the picture of the DF spangle Sorry for the the questions but you know me :budgiedance:
