  1. BUT...(Laughing out loud) some do break the rules of that one too
  2. I like Marty and what you say is that I have decided that I would like the other wing clipped it would be safer for him in our home. If they say something you say yes I understand and agree what you are saying can you clip the other wing as it is safer in our situation for our bird .
  3. I wouldn't put more then 12 in there...is it the picture or does it seem taller then wider...It is a nice cage don't get me wrong too bad it isn't a tinch wider.
  4. Just like some people have blond hair and others have brown
  5. Elly replied to a post in a topic in Cage Discussion
no that is too small and good for simply one bird. Did you look at the cage set-up link that I provided, people I believe put up their dimenision too. I would get a cage that even if they have a lot of flight time out that they can fly in because in life things happen which at times we find we don't always have the time for flight time.
  6. There are certain woods that are safe and some that are not so just breaking a branch from a tree is not a good idea. There is a website if you like that has a list of safe wood to use. I personally used Maple branches which is on the safe list.
  7. Yes that is common when I play video's here Merlin gets excited too
  8. your not being rude :hap: and we don't mean to come over that way either. Please ask questions that is the only way you will learn. I learned all of my budgie knowledge from this forum and the members on this forum past and present. . I continue to learn.

The toys will depend on the size of the cage. Put toys on the side of the cages so they can fly in the middle of the cage is best. Putting toys next to perches not under is good so they don't get soiled. Merlin has about 4 different types of toys from bells, to balls, to a preening toying and even links. I have other toys that I rotate with every couple weeks.
  10. Never take away the food they are used to eating a budgie will starve to death because they don't know if the new food is poison or not. The best way to teach them to eat variety of food is to incorporate it with what they are eating already. You can take away their food for the nighttime sleep and then whey they wake up give them veggies/fruit, seed and pellets mixed together. Leave for a couple hours and then replace with regular diet. They will probably eat around the veggie/fruit for the first few weeks and even months that is okay persistent pays off. It took Pretty 3-4 months to eat veggies and then once he did he loved it and taught Merlin to eat a variety. In our FAQ we have a good article about introducing a variety of foods Click here to Read Article
  11. that is fanastic
  12. I agree if they are eating it that is wonderful. You can provide pellets and seed which need to be part of their diet also during the afternoon and evening, while you can give them the veggies in the early AM and early PM. Welcome.
  13. Absolutely, your baby budgie needs a vet ASAP an avian if possible to ensure this infection doesn't spread. I would look in the cage for any sharp toys, perches, corners or parts of the cage that could have resulted in this injury.
  14. Kaz is very right on everything she said. We have a wonderful section called Breeding Journals here you can read through the journals of our members that are just starting off to those who are experienced. One thing that I saw is that new breeders or experience there was something that they had issues with each clutch. It is easy to put budgies together and get eggs but it is responsibility that is needed to ensure a successful clutch, deciding if you will keep the babies or if you will adopt them out, making sure you have the money in case they need special avian vet trips, hospital cage for sick babies or parents.... We are glad to have you on this forum :hap: there is so much to learn.
  15. he is gorgeous
  16. What a sweetheart...that is why I don't breed well one of the reasons I would hate parting with them. Do you have a picture of the cage you are talking about or convert to inches...(Laughing out loud) us US people are not on metric quite yet...but I know inches :hap:
  17. Candles are debatable and because budgies respiratory systems are sensitive if you burn candles it should not be in the same room at all or not at all. I got my budgie cage off of e-bay I would go there first because PetsMart and Petco are too expensive. My cage was only 100 US and I could if I wanted to fit 4 budgies comfortably maybe 6. I only have 1 in there now and Merlin is in the Hilton :hap:
  18. most avian vets will do it for a small fee or you can call a different pet store and ask them if they sell birds and if they say yes ask if they clip for a small fee.
  19. Merlin absolutely loves his swing I made for him Kaz. Pretty never got the point of a swing until Merlin came along and showed him how to do it (Laughing out loud).
  20. Is it that you have a lot of blues are are the blues segerating naturally from the greens great pictures
  21. "The point of this whole topic is to let people know that it is okay to decide to euthanise their pet, if they believe its quality of life has degenerated so far that it has no quality of life." This part that was written by Sailorwolf is very true it wasn't here to cause debate. Sitting here at my computer, reading ORCA's post, I can pass a judgement on what I "think" is right and what I "think" she should do. But until you are in the situation where your beloved pet where your pet is dying then in all reality that is all we are doing is passing judgement. I can say this confidently because I have been in this situation many times but just recently our 18y shep mix (50lb) dog stroked out and then I took him to the vet where they sent him to a better place for sure. I look back and say he should have been put down months and even years ago. Robin and Kaz were my support system through this whole time though I am sure they were thinking Elly get him to the vet and put him out of pain as good friends from this forum they let me ride through my emotions. Was the dog suffering during this time yes? Humans can't let go, we are a selfish species that needs to learn how to be unselfish (I watch that on Discovery)....I was selfish and I look back and think my poor dog. Do I regret keeping him alive sometimes but in the end it worked out... I agree with many statements here macka, kathyw, sailorwolf, pie etc... so please don't take me wrong just know each and everyone of you I respect how you feel about this topic and that I agree with many points. We have to remember the emotional attachement level to individual "pet" birds is much higher then when you have more. DO NOT TAKE this statement wrong because I KNOW those who have several birds plus DO CARE and DO MOURN, it is different though and we have to admit that the emotional bond is different. I can honestly say that when my first dog died so many years ago it hurt it seems a 1000x worse then when my grandma died (isn't that horrible to write) but it was because I cared for him so deeply on a day to day basis etc... I know I can say this on a pet forum because I have talked to other pet owners who have said you know what Elly I have felt that way too but I was too embarassed to say that out loud. In the end no matter how we feel the ultimate decision is ORCA and as a forum member we don't have to support her decision . The best thing we can do is support her as an individual that is going through a hard time. Harsh words or opinions just make the decision even more difficult, I know I have been there as one of those "pet" owners. You think about it every moment should I shouldn't I, going through guilt of keeping them live or putting them down etc...
