  1. Have you tried some of the techinques in the FAQ article I posted above? Patience is certainly a factor.

I got Pretty talking on camera after a while of him talking and he felt comfortable. If you keep working with the camera around him he will get comfortable. I have Pretty talking on the forums in the budgie pics.

    excellent
  4. Moderation is always good. We really don't know what budgies pick up and eat in the wild very much because they are nomadic. In our FAQ's we discuss a good balanced diet which consists of % of seed, pellets, veggies, fruits etc... I do know my avian vet spoke very highly of pellets because pellets can offer other nutrition that seed can not. I suggest you compile your information and do what you feel is best. If they are eating a well balanced diet and veggies & fruits and other foods are in their diet along with a small amount of seed that is excellent.
  5. Welcome to the forums. Do you have budgies yourself or would like to get into breeding or are you already a breeder? What are your intentions .
  6. If you look in the children's section of the library you will find a lot of nice budgie books, we have at our local library here in the US.
  7. very pure line of greens for sure I would say he would be a grey green especially if you are saying his check patches are grey and he may have 2 dark factors too along with it.

I believe Karen (that is her user name) has Boris and she is a tame budgie that breeds plus she has an aviary. So if she sees this post or you can PM her and ask her how things have gone for her .
  10. I agree with Kaz he is a gorgeous budgie
  11. Here is a link to our Food and Nutrition FAQ section Click Here there is a wide variety of foods you can feed your budgies it is best to stay with veggies for main foods other then seeds and fruits are a great treat because of the sugar content and many can cause water poos (such as to much apples) oh and iceburg lettuce (though a veggie) has no nutritional value and can cause water poos too. Variety is best stick with dark green veggies they are very nutritional such as your spinach, brocolli, kale etc...
  12. They are cute I agree with Kaz it is a violet and the other 2 you have are sky blues.
  13. Here is our link to our Food and Nutrition section Click Here there is a lot of great information and advice on what to feed your budgies. Variety is very important

  16. Oh yes the spikey head look (Laughing out loud) those are called pin feathers and the sheath will come off and he will look beautiful once again :hap:
  17. Nope no concern, the white that you see is their skin and the downy feathers that they have. What a cutie :hap:
  18. wonderful news :hap:
  19. hugs, you are in our thoughts and prayers :hap:
  20. just a note hens will lay without the males so you may still find eggs in the aviary of females you received great advice.
  21. as said a picture could help if you have a picture of him if an avian vet is too far then a regular vet that sees birds (make sure you ask and ask how many birds they deal with on a monthly basis) will be okay. Some vets say they see them but see a bird a year. budgies are not known to be the feather pluckers of the bird world unless there is an underlying cause and plucking occurs in one area mainly not in patches.
  22. can't wait to see the results it will be interesting to see if the hen is carrying the grey wing gene :hap:.
  23. it sounds like but I am not an avian vet that he may have mites and the scaley face may have never completely gone away, my personal opinion woud be to get him to an avian vet so he can be treated properly and looked at to ensure it is actually mites and not some underlying cause. You don't want to medicate a bird for something he may not have and it seems like you have been going back and forth with the scaley face which is caused by mites.
