Budgie Training
I wrote up a training article in the FAQ about how I trained Pretty and it goes into a lot of depth more then I could do here. Spend as much time as you can with your new friend. The one thing I did with Pretty is because his cage was smaller at the time is I always had him by me in his cage (I have 3 cats so I couldn't just let him out 24/7) but because of this he became so familar with me and trusted me not only with my hands on the inside of the cage but everything else too :grbud:.

Hello, I'm New!
Welcome Welcome Your bird looks like a Yellow Face Type 2 Cobalt Clearwing. I personally can't see the spangling marking but maybe someone else with an expert eye can. They Type 2 Yellow face is called this because the yellow on the mask of the bird bleedings into the body of the bird and as the bird has it first couple molts the yellow may spread and sometimes cause the bird to look green. Not all YF2 have this happen but some do.

Is This A Good Brand Of Pellets?
The best type of pellets are ones without artifical coloring is what I was told. They say Harrison is the best and I am sure they are but when you are looking at what is available, affordable in your area I would say make sure they are natural without the different coloring and dye. We have Zupreem here and it was recommended by our avian vet if we decided we didn't want to use Harrisons :hap:.

Best Buddies Fighting
I agree with Anne and Kaz on the cage size and more... You have to remember that they spend the majority of their time in that cage and 2-4 hours a day of flight time is not a lot when you consider you have 24 hours in a day. A bigger cage is going to make the difference and then you can keep that cage to the side for quarantine.

Olive
Congrats on adopting Olive. I have seen so many birds get adopted from other forum members and in this case rescue over that last 2 years. It is so rewarding to see this because you really know who the birds are going too. That is how I found Merlin too right on the forum. Though Lisa his prior mom doesn't come any more I still send her pictures.

Colours Of The Rainbow!
Also if you can possible find a good breeder instead of a pet shop where many budgies are milled to death in their breeding and can carry genetic issues, are not as strong or healthy etc... When I think of breeding I think of breeding healthy chicks first and then the colors come into play that is very important.

Best Buddies Fighting
Are either of your birds going through a molt? Do have you have pictures of your set up or the size dimension of the cage? How old are both your birds? Are you sure they are both males (sometimes people don't know for sure)? When does the fighting occur? During the day or in the evening? If you have a separate cage I would consider separating but putting them next to each other so they scream for each other so you can get this sorted out.

Pics Of My Gang
Yep agree with Libby. In the certain mutations such as ino/albino, recessive pied (and more) the cere will stay a very deep pink for a male instead of turning blue but hens the cere always is a very light blue or tan or dark brown like your hen is. All your birds are gorgeous, welcome. Does the first one have red or dark eyes? I can't tell in the picture. Also is the bird white or with yellow running through it?

Appreciation....
You know I have been a member on the forum since 05 and honestly out of all the time I don't remember how long a moderator. I just know I have meant some wonderful people, some are still members, some haven't shown up in a while but they have all enhanced the way I look at budgies. As we do our day to day grind I think appreciation and thanks are lost along the way So as a moderator I would like to say thank you to all the members on this forum who have made this forum grow, become a more fun place, educational and more... Thank YOU!!! Many of you have been here as long as me and some longer. I really think a BIG appreciation needs to go out to a Kaz & Phoebe and I say this because they have been a great part of my life on this forum. I remember when Kaz started and bought her house with the aviary and Robin (Laughing out loud) I can't remember how we got together but we did. Both of you do so much on the forum on a daily basis from editing posts, fixing pictures that are oversized, giving excellent advice and much more. You are both talented in different areas of budgie care. So thank you!!! You know I could go on and on Nerwen another moderator taught me so much about genetics, along with Rainbow (Anne) who always helped explain what mutations was what and more. Daz...well Daz keeps us ladies in our place , there are no words that can express the appreciation I have for you. Thank you!! Also a wonderful thanks to Bea who was a previously a MOD. You bring so much here to the forum and I enjoy reading your experiences with your aviary birds, to Blinks, Oz, now all your tiels plus... BIG THANKS to everyone... William Arthur: Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I may not forget you. Sam Walton:Appreciate everything your associates do for the business. Nothing else can quite substitute for a few well-chosen, well-timed, sincere words of praise. They're absolutely free and worth a fortune.

His Screeching Is Killing Me !
You think the opaline gene because it came from the male make it acts more male like that is an interesting theory? As for there cere check this link and and tell us what your bird's cere looks like http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...&artlang=en If the cere looks white tan, dark tan, dark brown then you have a hen it doesn't matter the mutation.

Doesnt Want To Come Out Of His Cage?
The cheeping is probably the short call sound when they are calling for another budgie or for you as he bond with you more. Since he is flighted be careful with windows make sure you have the drapes, blinds closed because the do fly into windows until they realize they can't get out that way but you also don't want them to break their neck. Everything sounds good if you do this everyday you will find the bonding to be quicker and he will get used to his surrounds with a week .

Laila And Her Blue Boy
Oh Kaz I am so sorry this is such sad news. I know how much you love each and every one of your budgies and babies. May they rest in peace and know they were loved in their short lives from you and their parents.

His Screeching Is Killing Me !
Just to clarify in the recessive variety in males the cere does not go brown it stays a pink and usually a very deep pink :hap:, it maybe a purplish pink but never tan or brown like in a hen

Partner
I don't know what to breed him with but I did want to leave a note that he is a stunning bird (in my pet eye view (Laughing out loud)).

Doesnt Want To Come Out Of His Cage?
I agree there with Libby even if you have him finger tamed he may jump off when you get to the front of the cage that is okay and you may have to do it by force I had to do it with Merlin at times. Once they realize that it is fun and safe in and out of the cage you will have a budgie that may even start to come out on his own. I have read articles about training your budgie ONLY to come out on your finger vs letting him just come out. Pretty did what he pleased he was a true stink pot but Merlin let me train him that way so I can take him in and out with no issues. Pretty would do as he please and when he got flighted there were times I had issues. In the beginning, withPretty it was SO bad in the beginning that I used to have to cover his cage with a towel because he would hang on it and funny as it sounds once he realized he could fly and have fun he then turned around and wasn't worry about his cage. Another thing is once he is out close the door on the cage because even now if I don't Merlin will just go back in. When it is closed he stays by me or on the top of his cage or he explores my room when I am there with him. Merlin is flighted and I love that aspect of being tamed and flighted. Then you know they really want to be with you and that can take months but the feeling the first time is awesome.
