  1. great pictures , did you use flash on one and not the other you can really tell the color difference the first bird looks cobalt and the 2nd skyblue but I know it is 1 in the same. Blues are so hard to take pics of.
  2. congrats Dave this is awesome.
  3. I think there is an amount of time before it turns over Karen for editing. Any ways beautiful chicks to say the least
  4. was it in your hand like the time before? She is such a cool bird one of a kind can be a mummy and still love her human mummy
  5. Gorgeous pictures, give us a couple more months and we are going to have some nice thunderstorms. I like them when they are pouring straight down without the damaging winds or when the sun is shining on 1 side and it is dark on the other it is cool.
  6. Humidity is a factor you have to consider when breeding, I don't know about your weather but here where I am we have the snow falling and the humidity is a huge factor in our colder weather. So for me if I were to breed I would need a good heating system, a humidfer and a humidfer indicator to ensure that I had the correct amount of humidity.
  7. they are beautiful Dave, I love the grey one.
  8. he is a sweetie, I am glad he is coming a long well
  9. Welcome to the forums this is a great place to start for sure and you have received excellent advice. Just a few things to add make sure YOU want the bird not just your daughter because at 5y she is too young to be able to take care of it. I know you know that but I like to put that out there. On top of budgies being wonderful pets they can be a bit noisy especially if you get a male, females tend to be quieter but there are some that break that rule. They are messy (Laughing out loud) everyday is vaacum day because they love to sift through their seed and the hulls are all over the place. They need their food and water changed daily and feeding them can be a challange until you can get them to eat the right things (we have an FAQ on feeding your budgie). To keep your budgie tame or to tame it you must be willing to spend time with it daily. Many places say 15 minutes a day I say as much as you can everyday it is very important. Birds are not like dogs and cats they are not domesticated they are still "wild" and will go that route if you let them. It is best to keep your bird tame especially with a little one because they will want to be able to interact with the bird, if there is no interaction then they will loose interest quickly. If you can handle all that you will have a wonderful pet budgie for the rest of his life. , not to scare you but they are the realities of budgie owning. Much easier then a dog for sure but things to consider. My advice would be to get a baby budgie (either sex is fine) if you can find one that has been handled already that is wonderful, see if there are reputable breeders out there before walking into a big chain pet shop where most budgies have not been handled and are more on the wilder side. You may even find a budgie breeder that has a clutch that has yet to fledge and you could pick one from there and wait for it to come home. There are so many options on purchasing your budgie but the best advice I can give you since the budgie will be a pet for your daughter (and kids have less patience then adults) is to work on getting a baby that is used to human contact. It can take many months to tame down an older budgie (some are expection to the rule but most are not). I would also start off with 1 budgie first they will bond quicker to their human vs another bird. If you decide down the road you would like another budgie then that is awesome as long as the first one you have is already bonded to humans because many a times when you have 2 they absorb in each other if they were not first properly bonded to humans in the beginning. Good luck and again welcome .

    Good to hear
  12. Karen what a gorgeous chick, looks like the mother but will have the size of the father
  13. beautiful budgie
  14. She is in quarantine yes?
  15. Her cere seems to be around the 6 month mark if she is that young, I would say recessive pied but watch out for those iris rings and I say that because she has some blue up and around her neck which is not common in the recessive pieds, she does have more of the orange beak like the recessives too. If you could get a front view of her head and show the bar lines you are talking about more that would be helpful.
  16. keep up the good work and be patient you will need to both of them to bond to you individually so that takes time they need to learn to form 2 bond 1 with each other (which they have) and then 1 with you. Working with your most confident bird will help the one that is less confident.
  17. It really takes time what you can do is don't let them finish the millet and take it away before it is finished therefore you are in control not them. When you take it away if they fly away then offer it again once they get on your finger then talk to them and then offer it therefore you are creating come to me and we talk and then we get rewarded. You are creating a place to feed and then jump back off like a food dish. Try this method over the next 2 weeks and see if you find improvement, work with your confident bird the one that stays longer. I have done this with both my birds and it is very successful but you need patience .

Thank you Neat, the darker grays are those with 1 to 2 dark factors while the lighter gray has no dark factors. Grey is an adding factor so a white based budgie would be grey (vs blue) and a yellow based budgie would be a green grey budgie so you understand how the gene works. To get the full details on Grey Budgies and breeding them you will want to go here The Budgie Place I find this site very resourceful and put very well in words that a novice (such as myself) can understand.
