  1. Hey my 5 year old hen Lumina laid a couple of eggs over the weekend on the bottom of her cage shredded everything in the bottom too. One off the eggs looked like she could have ate it, it looked like after a chick hatches and there are nick marks on it. So she is a great mother she has raised 3 clutches with about 15chicks in total. But I was wondering if I let her start a clutch now would it be pushing it. It's also the wrong time of year hear to it nearing into winter. (I mean they are kept inside so the weather really isnt the problem.)
  2. Welcome to the forum!
  3. Firstly you need to quarantine all new budgie's from previous budgie's to ensure no one is carring any bugs or illness' that can be passed on to others. Secondly are they males or females and on what size your cage is. Hope all is well with you.
  4. Allen is very cute! You're a lucky budgie owner and he seems so tame.
  5. Ditto to what Jen144 said Both are very, very cute!
  6. Yup the budgie is a male and the finch is a female.
  7. I would personally move them mother, father and chick with there nesting place into a safe place. That hen that's having a nose might not nessiasarly kill the chicks but she could steal them and hurt the mother hen in the process of claiming them. But I would also wait for the other members opinions also because I have completly moved house with a mother nesting with four chicks before (they were her first clutch too) And she was fine so was dad and the chicks but the oldest chicks were almost fledging age so that may have had something to do with the success of the move. Also I never changed their cages I just moved house (which is still stressful anyway) I hope all is well.
  8. I have been doing a couple of toys with nice bright colours and some not so bright (just to shock them sometimes) last weekend I brought some alphabet beads I love them!! Oh how do you make swings? I have only spiced up old swings that I brought with some beads added on.
  9. So, so true robyn. I have on a couple of occasions had a nice fresh poop in the hair....so not a glamorous point of being a budgie owner, maybe this bird is a good thing after all, I joke of course nothing can replace the fun part of owning budgie's. Oh, that reminds me of a great T-shirt I saw at a bird fair once, but my husband wouldn't let me buy it. It said "Why, yes, I do own a bird. Why do you ask?" And it had a white splotch on the shoulder! Finnie that shirt's a keeper. Ha haa.
  10. Ha haa! You are so right about the cleaning up after them part...after hours of sweeping, wiping and hoovering. You think you're done but then your family member stops you like "Errrm you've got feathers and seed in your hair!" But yeah it seems like a waste of money, but it is so cute!!
  11. I am thinking of you both. She seems like a strong little lady.
  12. From what I know on having many birds in an aviery is that to each male you have two females to prevent fights but if you are talking about breeding is that just one for each pair any more could disrupt nests and babies (maybe sometimes not intentially) Sorry for my awful spelling.
  13. Thank you funkypanda they arent anything crazy with their colours but I adore the normal green types so much! And they aren't exacally babies anymore they are 4-3years old now. With Bailey, George and Lumina at 5 years old. How are your guys going??
  14. Kay I just wanted to share a few photo's of my little flock (I hope that its okay to post it here, I felt that it wasn't needed to start a whole new topic to show a few pictures) So here they are. The girls Lumina (The mama) My stalkers AKA Kiwi and Toshi (Daughters to George and Lumina-1st Clutch) The boys Bailey (Brother to George) George (The dad) Oushi (Son of George and Lumina-1st Clutch) Ollie (Son of George and Lumina-2nd Clutch) Not a bird but my dog wanted in with the action...sorry.
  15. That is amazing, I wonder if I could find one like that. I too would probably have to take up residence in it too, I have the same problem with that fact my parents hate my budgies too. But anyways its beautiful.

Welcome to the forum! There is a topic on the forum that tells you how to upload and post photo's. This should help. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=16327
  17. It will be fine to take the male (dad) Out the female can raise the chicks on her own, like hilly said just give extra soft food and place it quite near to the nesting box if you can so mum doesnt have to travel far to get food for the chicks. You can also put a millet spray in the box and she'll nibble on that and if the chicks are old enough they will play with it to learn how to eat. I hope everything is well.
  18. That is fine as long everything is going well
  19. Your flock is so beautiful! Also looking at all of your birds colorful toys is really getting me exsited to get started on making a new batch of bead themed toys for my 7 And that finch is absolutly stunning. I have never seen a finch like that!
  20. Ahh! I thought it might be the case, there's no harm in asking right? Looking forward to the updates though!
  21. Hi your chicks look so good and so very sweet, I was also wondering do your budgie's names have any relation to the game Final fantasy? I am probably terribly wrong and they are just Lightning and Snow as in the weather. Anyways your chicks are wonderful!
  22. I think that you have two boys and a girl. They are all gourgess regardless of their sex anyways, what cuties you have!
  23. Okay here what I think. I think you have. Normal skyblue clearflight dominant pied Normal violet greywing Normal skyblue greywing 2x Normal violet dominant pied with greywing yellow face (I am possibly thinking golden face but I could be completely wrong) Normal skyblue greywing For some reason I feel like dad is a golden face. Some more experience members will correct me if I am wrong which I feel I am, sorry.
  24. She is very very young. Are you aware of that, not trying to be hostile in anyway. From what I know of the Rainbow budgie it is made up of a few different variations of mutations such as Yellow faced type 2, Opaline, spangle, pied and many others I think and to me she looks to be a Rainbow budgie. But I couldn't tell you her exact mutation since she is so young.
