I wouldn't hand feed because it is very tricky and i'm pretty sure budgies are one of the hardest types of birds to feed. Your babies will be just as tame if you simply hold them for about 15 minutes each day from when they're 3-4weeks old, before they can fly. Increase the time you spend with them as they get older and stronger.
  3. You can't breed without breeding boxes can you??? I didn't think the hen would sit on the eggs?
  4. But the egg food helps the hen to produce crop milk. If the hen doesn't produce fine enough crop milk it can cause health problems with the chicks.
  5. Well i used to use regular cages with a high success rate. I'm hoping to get a few breeding cages for my birthday in September though so i can do the whole thing more properly.
  6. I'm pretty sure you give it to them just before the first egg is due to hatch. It's really good for them though so i give it to all my birds all the time.

I wouldn't recommend having more girls than boys because it's actually the girls who fight over the guys. The guys are more than happy to share the goods! :(Laughing out loud): I think you're sposed to have 2 males for every female.

If you can get him on your finger you need to shove him in his cage as fast as you can. That's usually the only way i can put Blinkie back in his cage.

Seriously, this is a word of advice for anyone else planning on asking this question on here.....DON'T!!!! You'll get confused and won't know what to do!!! Wing clipping is a personal choice and everyone has different opinions.
  18. I know how you are feeling except i have only had to leave Blinkie for 2 weeks not months. I am currently really worried about exactly the same things!!! I think that if your parents play with your birds a couple of times a day they will stay pretty tame and surely there's no way they could forget you!

You shouldn't worry. The hen will start incubating the eggs when the time is right. If you keep on pushing the eggs around she might abandon them because your interfering.
  20. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
When i started breeding i was always pushing the eggs into the groove. I don't bother now. It doesn't worry the hen or affect the chicks wherever the eggs are so why should it matter.
  21. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
The hen doesn't usually incubate the eggs much until the second egg is laid. The second egg will probably come tomorrow for you! And more every 2 days. I'm pretty sure what's happening is normal.

Poor little splay. Having a rough time isn't she! If she's weaned then you should put her in her own cage. That should keep her comfortable and give her a bit of a break from getting picked on.

Sunny is really sweet! That perch is a great idea except i don't think my bird Blinkie would hang out on it. He prefers to chase my fingers!

Dunno. I don't know if there is a differance between crested budgies and show budgies who look like poofy heads! Regardless, i think the pom pom heads look silly!

I am trying.......but Blinkie might take one look at me and think i abandoned him and then not trust me incase i do it again!!! *thinks to self - stop worrying! Everything will be okay......as long as the boat don't sink!!!* I decided against watching Titanic tonight. Think i might have nightmares!!! Don't you guys worry. I'll no doubt have fun once i am safely on the dry shores of Tasmania!
