If you're worried then my advice is to see an avian vet. Lethargy is a sign of illness. So is a change in behaviour. Let us know what you decide.

Do you actually need the material skirt now that you have the plastic in there? It's a good idea!

Can't see much in the photo, but the blood looks to be coming from the base of the tail, which makes me think he's got a new feather growing and it's broken. If it is this, then it's really nothing to worry about. Either the owner, or a vet, can remove the broken blood feather and there shouldn't be any more problems. If it's actually coming from the bottom, then definitely, the budgie should see a vet which has already been advised. :dbb1:

If they are recent books they would be worth reading, most i've found are seriously outdated with information that is now known to be incorrect (e.g. grit is necessary, small cages are fine, etc).

They're perfect for pony beads and you wouldn't want to use beads smaller than that anyway. They'd be a choking hazard.

I've been using either scoubies (plastic braiding string) or supreme unbleached cotton from www.myparrotshop.com - they've got other types of string too, and good prices, you should check it out. I've ordered from them a few times now and the service is wonderful.

Blinkie is definitely the most attached to me out of my tame budgies. He chirps happily and starts pacing at the cage side nearest me when i walk into the room. He gets super excited when i talk to him in budgie. :ausb: Every night before i go to bed i go get a good night kissy from Blinkie, and if he thinks i've forgotten then you should see him pace and chirp for me. Gotta love the little sweetie!

Some "Shredders" i ordered from My Parrot Shop arrived today so i made: And as i was on a roll i kept on making. First is a little dice toy. And this is just too adorable if you ask me! I pulled apart a cheap olympic ring toy and added pony beads before putting it together again. I was going to glue it, but i found it to be unnecessary! And in other exciting news mum cleaned out a draw in my/her desk and i've used it for toy making supplies!

On ebay i saw plastic seed guards which were adjustable in size. I was thinking you could do exactly the same with some thick cardboard from a craft store and some tape! Here's an example of what i'm talking about... You could even find some plastic from a hardware store and it would be longer lasting.

My beads got here! Here's a toy i just made, another way to make use of a till roll. And another!

I've seen seed skirts on eBay that don't look like they would be easy for a bird to chew up, they don't appear to have stray threads and seams to start picking at. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BIRD-CAGE-TIDY-NEW-...1QQcmdZViewItem Maybe one of those is worth trying. Personally i don't use a seed skirt, nor do i need to. I measure my boys seed (2tsp each) so that their cups aren't full to the brim ready to have seed kicked around, plus i put the dishes low in the cage so that there's more chance of the seed falling into the tray than out of the cage. Maybe you could try that and you might find a seed skirt to be unnecessary too.
