  1. I would have gotten it then too but dad's a cheapy butt and i have no money, i'll use my xmas money.
  2. Well i'm hoping it'll still be there on boxing day or the day after. I might get lucky because both dad and Tim looked at it and thought it was ugly so for people not realising it's very special it's not ultra attractive (especially next to the GORGEOUS yellow faced blue pieds!). Keep you're fingers crossed for me, it was only a baby and i thought it was a cutie. There was also a really gorgeous 'punk' budgie (crested, dad renamed it) with it's head feathers flattened out, it looked so cool!
  3. I saw THE wierdest thing today. We were at the pet shop looking at budgies (only looking ) and i saw a recessive pied green budgie.....BUT it's head was green. Not vegetable green (like it had been eating) but really truely it had a green head! If it's still there after xmas i'm going to go and get it. I've never seen anything like it before and if i hadn't been learning about mutations i wouldn't have looked twice at it. Is it common to get green headed budgies or have i discovered something interesting?
  4. I know what he is....a red face opaline cobalt! :budgiedance:
  5. Nope, you can get yellow face greys. I love them! :budgiedance: Can you post some photos? :bluebudgie:

I'm so glad the babies are doing well. :budgiedance: Keep us updated on their progress, a photo diary would be best *hint hint*. :bluebudgie:

I know, dad's great. At least now i know why Blinkie loves dad so much, he must be sneaking him rolled oats.

Aw! They're gorgeous! They look about 4 weeks old to me. To encourage the littlest to eat better you could add a little bit of honey or apple baby food to the mix, it'll make the food yummier.

Everytime we've taken a budgie to the vet it's cost $40 - $50 consutaltion and then a few dollars for any meds they might need, if it helps your bird to get well then it's worth it.

Hehe...Blinkie's seed is measured everyday (2 tsp) and in his food dish this only just covers the bottom of the dish. I was at my friends place the other night and i get a phone call from dad: "Belinda, your bird has no seed." I couldn't understand it cause i fed him that morning but anyway, i came home to find that dad had 'fed' Blinkie....whole seed dish of seed and rolled oat husks on the top! Porky boy had been eating his favourite bits. Dad got a lecture on feeding Blinkie and how i measure his seed for his benifit, etc....looking back it's kinda funny.

When you've got a problem like this it's impossible to think logically. That's why we're all here, to come up with idea's for you.

Hand rearing mix is definitely best because that's got a lot of vitamins and other important nutrients in it so it helps the babies to develop at a nearly normal rate. You should stock up on syringes, they're really cheap from chemists and you'll probably go through a fair few while you're feeding the chicks. Keeping the food warm is really easy with a syringe, get a cup of boiling water and put the syringe in that between mouthfuls. Maybe while you're only using the spoon you could put whatever you have the mix in in a larger container of boiling water, that should work.

Are you trying to feed them with a spoon or syringe? If you're not already i would try using a syringe as it's heaps easier to get the food IN their mouth instead of all around it. Seeing as they don't have proper feathers they sound like they're only about 2 - 3 weeks old so hopefully they'll take to hand feeding well. Hope everything works out for you.
  15. Well mine are on seed and veggies with some egg and biscuit and his Royal Blinkiness gets everyday 2 tsp of seed (trill - the one with 7 different seeds), 1/2 tsp dry egg and bisc mix, 1/2 tsp pellet crumbles and some fresh spinach/sprouts/brocolli/carrot - depends what i feel like giving him.
  16. Me too! Wait.... I have some out in the aviay.
  17. And you shouldn't cut seed right out of your budgies diet because they are still good for them as well.
  18. No i love them more with Baby Blinkie Angel Cakes on top. :
  19. It's terrible! I looove baby bars.

Blinkie's moulting at the moment too so i know what you mean about the feathers! Last week i was picking them up twice daily but they just kept falling!

Yeah, i wouldn't be able to do that in my room because 1: we don't have a moving fan and 2: there's hardly 6 feet of space away from the cage that i could put a fan.
  22. Bea replied to Bea's topic in Breeders Discussion
The cooler is i guess a fan except it hasn't got the thing than spins around so it's more like portable air conditioning really. This is what i've done so far and the babies have come back together in the tangle of pink you usually see.
  23. Hehehe! They're all so good! :(Laughing out loud):
  24. Bea replied to Bea's topic in Breeders Discussion
okay, so far i've put a wet cloth on top of the nest box and i can turn the lid so it's getting more ventilation. :bluebudgie: I would prefer to keep the cooler out of my room if at all possible so i might also try shutting the blinds a little to dim the room. *sigh* Never again will i allow budgies to breed over summer!
  25. Bea posted a topic in Breeders Discussion
The baby budgies in the nest box are all looking very hot. :ausb: They are lying down differently to how i remember the last clutch laying if that makes any sense. I have a cooler that i can move into my bedroom if i need to but unless it's pointing right where you need the coolness to be it's pretty usless so if i was to have the cooler pointing right at the breeding cage would it be too cold? I wouldn't want freeze them to death! :bluebudgie:
