  1. Hi, I have read the budgies can eat grevilleas, do they just eat the flower or can they eat the plant as well? Would it also be safe for cockatiels to eat if the budgies can? Also is it all types of grevilleas, or just some? I give my budgies eucalyptus leaves, what other native Australian plants can I give them and is it only the flower that can be given or the whole plant? Thanks
  2. If laying in a breeding box, the box will need to be removed. I don't know of any other way
  3. I don't really have an idea when it comes to mutations, but the baby looks very similar to the dad. They could be the same maybe?
  4. They look very cute, good luck with your taming
  5. Had a look at the other pics and it should be a nice male
  6. Looks male to me, is it possible to get a front on picture of the cere? Thanks
  7. Hi sup, When a young budgie has a fully pink cere as Groovy has, it is usually assumed as a male. If a young budgie has a white cere you usually assume female. There are some good pinned topics to understand how to tell budgie genders at a young age. Thanks
  8. Can you get a closer shot of the cere?

That's turned out really well, how are your pairs on eggs going?
  10. 4 beautiful budgies there, I'm a big fan of the yellow face spangles and grey wings. Do you plan on pairing them together?
  11. yep both are males and look very nice
  12. as tohru said first is female second is male
  13. both males, first one is under four months as he has bars up to his cere. Not sure on age of second but it would be over 6 months
  14. To upload a picture you need to use photo bucket, will be able to help once we can see some pictures
  15. Hi, Colony breeding can often be difficult. I currently have 4 or 5 extra males in my aviary with 13 females but I am hoping to cut down on my birds and have 10 males and 10 females. The breeder is right about saying females can be the aggressors but I have had incidents that involved males being aggressive towards each other. You could add extra males if you wanted more birds but I would suggest trying to stay too even numbers. But you can have odd numbers if you don't have breeding boxes in the cage.
  16. Hi all, I believe I have purchased my first DEC although it has the slightest coloring of purple through the body. Depending on where the light sits on the bird depends on the visibility of the purple. Does this still make him a DEC? He has a purple cere and I was told he was a DEC. What would be best to pair him to? I purchased him on the weekend and also purchased a pale purple spangle and they seem to have taken to each other already? Would this make a good combination or should i look at finding him a different mate? Thanks
  17. Hi Kaj, Not too good with mutations either, I've been getting better with them but still don't fully understand them. I think your hen is a golden face opaline spangle Dad is a recessive pied, not sure if he is able to mask grey wing. If he can't mask grey wing he is masking spangle. I'm gonna guess that he is a yellow face T1 grey wing Did you want suggestions on previous clutches or this clutch?
  18. A. Male B. Female C. Male

That looks amazing Witherd, you've done a good job on that.
  20. Hi Brett, Not too good when it comes to cage breeding, are the birds getting sufficient light? I know with canaries they need a certain amount of light before they will start nesting. So if you have the budgies in a dark area this may create a problem. Are all your birds in breeding condition? Maybe try separating the hen and cock for a couple of days and then place them together again. Hopefully someone with a little bit more caged breeding knowledge will help you.
  21. Colony breeding is when you have several pairs in an aviary breeding at the same time rather than selective breeding when you have 1 pair to a breeding cage. Even with you placing a pair together before putting them in the aviary they can still find new partners. Budgies aren't mated for life and often will have several males mount them while in an aviary. So all though you think you are making a pair in a separate cage, unless you breed them in that separate cage the female may have several males fertilize her.
  22. Hi, Not too good with telling sexes at this age, I'm pretty good once their fully feathered and have just left the box but I will have a go. Baby A: Female Baby B: Male Baby C: Female Baby D: Male Baby E: Female Both albinos will have to be hens, as neither of your parents are ino.
