  1. So, today i was feeding my 4 budgies their food until my pet bunny came up and started to eat with them. I was wondering if it's safe for my pet bunny to be eating budgies food, he's just a month old. i just got my bunny 2 days ago and he is really blending with my budgies, especially the male budgie. I don't really know the bunn bun's gender yet.
  2. Hi there, I'm new here, and I've been trying to tell if my yellow/lutino budgie is male or female, and I would apreciate if somebody could tell me since I'm not really sure, I think it's a male but I need others opion.
  3. I have two budgies that are bonded to each other and refusing to tame so I am going to take one and put him in a separate cage and move him into a different room. And I am wondering if this is bad for them?
  4. Hi everyone! I’m new here, but my name is Aleesha So, I recently bought two new baby budgies on Saturday, on the 25th of April. One is 8 weeks old (Skye) and the other is around 5 weeks (Sunny). The breeder told us that they were both male by rubbing their cloaca, but I’m not sure if this is an effective way of sexing (If anyone knows, please let me know). They were both supposedly hand-raised, but when we bought them home, they were terrified, which is understandable. The second or third day we had them, my dad grabbed them out of the cage, and forced them to be held as he said this would ma
  5. I got my new budgie yesterday from a pet store and I'm wondering if when I should let it roam around? (My room is small and is safe.) What I've heard people say is if a single budgie just sits in its cage all day (what my budige has been currently doing) they will get depressed so should I let it out? Or do I wait until it has fully gained my trust?
  6. We just got 2 new budgies we are thinking the blue one is a female and that the green one might be a male?? I'm a new owner and I'm having a hard time figuring out their genders. The one we think is female (Blue) has a light brown and dark brown cere we think she is about 8 months old to a yearThe one we think is a Male (Green & yellow) has a pink cere with white rings around the nose which is why we are a bit unsure if he is actually a he
  7. Hi! I'm new to this forum and also very new to breeding budgies so I'm going to be asking a lot of questions on here. I thought I'd start with the most severe problem so far. How do I clean out the best box? The first baby is around 3 weeks now and the youngest is around 1or so and the best box has an odd smell around it. I'm not sure if that's normal or not but I'm just guessing it's not. I really want to clean it out but last time I tried the parents freaked out and started flying around everywhere and the babies started screaming. After that for a few minutes the hen seemed a little nervous
  8. Please help me identify what type of budgies I have and confirm if they are both boys
  9. Hi all, I got my first budgie Sydney in December 2016 (aged around 2 months) from a pet shop and bought a second budgie Rocket (aged around 6 weeks) in march 2017 from a home breeder. I changed their water and food every few days. Ever since I got the 2nd budgie, Sydney has been puffing up and I just gathered he was doing it as a dominance thing? They live in a spare room at my house in a reasonable sized cage. The last week or so they have been shifted around a bit as I had guests and dogs, so they've been out in the kitchen and bathroom as well. My sister walked in the spare room yesterday t

  12. hello everyone! I'm new to the forum! I have 55 budgies, 15 Australian which I breed for pets and 40 English which i breed for exhibiting! (and the population of my budgies never stops growing! it will probably be 65 next week ).I have just rebuilt my aviary and bird room so I can expand my exhibiting population! I have owned birds for all my life but have been into breeding and exhibiting budgies for nearly 6 years now! i have owned so many different species of birds from Galahs to many species of conures to macaws to budgies! I think budgies are amazing birds and have so much charact
  13. Hi All, I was just reading back over my breeding diary for 2009! What a long time ago that was! Since then I think I have only bred once. Tragically, one of the two chicks that were hatched died unexpectedly and the other escaped from her cage - she was too smart for her own good I say. Anyway, I'm back into it again. For good hopefully. The happy couple are: Aussie DSC_3160.jpeg and Able DSC_3141.jpeg And the beginning of their family: DSC_3159.jpeg Looking forward to them hatching. (Due date...April 5th) Have a good one!
  14. Hi Everyone, Seeing as I have had some fluctuations and changes in my little flock lately, I thought you'd enjoy a post full of photos of who I have. Able Aussie Sandy Billy Cheeky Anzac Dandy Echo {On Left} There are two more but I don't have photos of them yet. Happy day!
  15. Hey guys, If you've seen my previous post, i made a new pairing in my breeding cage about a week ago.. The male was previously paired to another female but i split him up to go with a new female. However the breeding cage is in the aviary where his old mate was and I have seen them regurgitating food to eachother through the breeding cage wire front. He doesnt really show any signs of affection towards the female in the breeding cage but they still seem to both go in the breeding box for short periods (couple of minutes) during the day. I know i should probably just be patient but i
  16. Hellooo, I have just paired up a pair in my new breeding cage and before you say it, yes i have done my research... over 6 months of it Anyway, i paired them up two days ago (yellow lacewing hen with normal green cock) and i was just wondering how long will it be until they start to bond and mate? The male was previously bonded with another partner but i separated him to go with the lacewing, :/ he seems a bit sad and misses her because he tries to find way to get out of the cage since it's in the aviary with the previous female. Could this affect how he bonds with the new female? I have
  17. Hi all, Im wondering if my budgies are english in the pictures below and if there vents need trimming for the breeding season? I have heard about many people doing it but have never tried it before... is it worth it? Would love to hear the success rates between the two (dont know if these images will work) Thanks, Will
  18. Hi All, In the past in my averys, I have had budgies and King Quail together for years with absolutely no problem. At the moment I don't have any quail and I have just located some for sale nearby but they are Japanese Quail rather then King Quail. I'm just wondering if there is anyone here who can advise me on the difference and put me at rest as to whether they can live harmoniously with budgies. My avery is equipped with nice quaily hiding places and grass and places to dust-bath ect. I've kept them before I just need to know about the different species. Thank you!
  19. So, one great thing about this forum is that it has been around for donkeys years and there are heaps of old topics that are really helpful. There are others that are really funny, and others that just never went anywhere... What I'm going to attempt to do with this is post links to some topics from the past that I think should be revived and given a second breath of life. P.S. some are so old that the members names are listed as 'Guest' and some of the pictures may have been deleted. To start us off here is a link to a thread that talks about American and English type budgies - as you can

  21. Alright, well I guess you can guess why I'm here. I'm back in the budgie world and I want to know what my birds are and you lovely people are the ones to help me. Oh, I can make some guesses but I've forgotten most of what I used to know and I'm too lazy to go back and research it from the start so I've come to you guys. Thanks! 1) 2) 3) 4) I'm dreadfully sorry about the horrible pictures.... They will improve I promise!
  22. Hi guys, just wondering if you've used, or seen anyone use, these cages. They are for sale on eBay and look pretty classy. Cheers, http://www.gtmall.com.au/stack-vertical-bird-breeding-cage-with-center-divider.html?
  23. Hi all, I came across this article while I was searching for something online, thought you might like a read. http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16840322 Cheers.
  24. Well Hello All, I'm not exactly new, but I haven't been here for 6 and a half years. Can you believe that? How could I?!? (gasp) But it's true. Funny how life get's like that hey? Anyway, I decided to return - the good samaritan - and all that time I've had budgies. It got down to two for a long time there. And then I bred them for one family's worth and then I had four. And then both of my males (Butter who I'd had since like 2007/2008 and his son) died and so I was left with the two ladies. (Who it's my personal opinion got pretty sick of each other's company.) Then my little sister got ex
