  1. Hi Trefto, Very nice looking bird, has some strong wing markings for a 3 month old lacewing. From the pictures provided you would almost say 100% male but if it was bred from 2 normals it would have to be female. I have bred a few lacewings recently and have about 8 currently, from what I've noticed with my lacewings is that the cheek patches are brown but your bird appears to be blue. Not sure if it's form my monitor but it appears blue.
  2. It may be a good idea to PM Kaz and see what she has to say, she may know a bit more about these problems. Thanks
  3. Hi Finnie, It appears I have both a male and a female, one has a white cere and one has a pinkish one. Birds have just started leaving the nest but still go in there at certain points in the day. Thanks
  4. An albino can mask any color, the albino hen may have the opaline wing markings on her but because she is albino her white coat hides any markings. She isn't split to opaline she is just masking it, meaning it is a visual mutation on her body but it is masked.
  5. Thanks Finnie, They had 4 babies, I fostered 2 out and kept 2 with the mother. She threw both out one died before the other, I was able to save 1. Of the 2 fostered out 1 of them died through high temperatures, so I now have 2 albino lacewings in the nest almost ready to leave.

Hi, I am interested in these pink budgies you have, when do you think you will be able to post the pictures. You have said you have sent them to other people, why can't you use the same photos to post here and then update once the birds have gone through there moults. People get suspicious when people continue to say they will post pictures but never do. Thanks
  7. If the baby is an opaline spangle it would have to be female as opaline is sex linked and unless the albino was also masking opaline only the father holds it.
  8. Not sure if it's my screen but it looks as though it is a cinnamon? could you please clarify the coloring
  9. those shots are perfect, nice budgie you have. i'm pretty sure it's a male and he will keep the pink cere through his life because he is a pied. Please correct me if i'm wrong Thanks
  10. i think it looks male, if you could get more pics looking straight on to the cere it would make it easier. thanks
  11. I have found a good site that explains how masking works, an albino or lutino can have mutations under its yellow or white coats of color. If you have a read through this website it will help you understand: http://www.bcv.asn.au/Masking.htm Cheers,
  12. Not entirely sure how it works but they can mask other mutations through the albino gene. So a couple of things can appear when breeding from an albino.
  13. Can't albinos mask double factor spangle? I was told that a while ago when I got a spangle from an albino and normal pairing.
  14. Hi, Bit of bad luck it appears to be a female
  15. Hi, I've only ever had one TCB. and I have only seen a couple but it does appear to be one. She is a nice female, and has the light blue through the back which some TCB. acquire. Thanks
  16. Hi all, Didn't really update this post once the babies left the box. They have now been sold, I still have the YF. Cin. Vio. but it has splayed legs, but is still fine perching and flying around the aviary. I will have to take some pictures for all of you to see her. My birds are currently going through there second round with about half the amount of babies from the first. I have pulled most females out of the aviary while the last babies are raised as I want to take the boxes out over summer, they have been in a little bit longer than I had wanted them to be, Once again I had 2 females nest in the same box, they laid 6 eggs and all appeared to be fertile but only 3 hatched and 1 died a day after hatching. If you know the name for the mutations could you please tell me. This box has 1 violet opaline 2 yellow pieds and an albino lacewing which has been fostered in This box contains 3 blue opalines (males split to cinnamon) and another albino lacewing which was fostered in This box only has 2 babies, originally had 4 but the dad passed away so I fostered 2 babies out. Contains 1 albino lacewing and maybe a pied? I am unsure could someone please clarify Thanks for looking, if you can clarify any colours please let me know.
  17. Those are some very beautiful budgies, I am a fan of the yellow faces especially on the grey wing or spangle body.
  18. Hi, Thanks for the replies, I have fostered the 2 youngest chicks of the nest into 2 different nests. Both the fostered babies have a full crop and are sleeping with the other babies. The single mum has been in her box and has fed her remaining 2 babies. Seeming she is feeding them I thought I would leave them in with her, it should be a bit easier raising 2 rather than 4 and I thought the older chicks may be able to demand the food more than the younger ones that I fostered out. I have been keeping a close eye on them to make sure everything goes well. I am able to tell which babies have been fostered out because they are all albinos. This is a mutations question, the mum (single mum) is an albino lacewing and the dad (now passed away) was a blue male. I believe he was split to lacewing as his mother was a lutino lacewing, will the babies be male or will i get females and males? She has 3 albinos and 1 other looking to be a cinnamon pied. Thanks
  19. Hi all, Yesterday I found 1 of my males dead on the floor, it had appeared he was in a fight as he had a couple of marks and some blood over his body. He is a dad to 4 babies the oldest being 9 days, I am wanting to know if the female will be able to cope with 4 babies by herself. She has previously only had 1 clutch and 2 babies so she has double the amount of chicks to raise single handedly now. I have looked in the box this morning and none of the babies have been fed, I don't have experience with hand feeding so I have fostered her youngest baby which would be 4 days old into another box with chicks around the same age. This makes the box the baby was fostered to a nest of 5, I have another nest with a really experienced mum, currently on 3 babies around the week old age. Should I place the remaining 3 babies from the nest with the only mum to the nest with the experienced mum? Also when I placed the baby into the other box, I placed it in when the mum was already in the box feeding the babies. Is there a specific way to fostering babies, do you have to have the mum out of the box or is it okay with the mum in the box? Thank you in advance for your help!
  20. Hi Shane, Once the ceres begin to change from the brown or flaky brown to white it means they are now out of condition. I am not to sure about the ceres but I have had females come in and out of condition between 1st and 2nd rounds and they've been fine. Thanks
  21. Hi, Yes you are able to remate your female. Budgies aren't mated for life so you can swap and change when ever you like. If you do decide to place them together make sure you monitor them at first as it can lead to fights. Thanks
  22. Hi Maz, A lacewing is the same as a normal lutino but a lacewing will have faint brown wing markings instead of being pure yellow. They will also have faint brown spots around there neck. Thanks
  23. Yes I believe they are both males
  24. I'm gonna take a guess and say a yellow face grey, I think it is type 2 yellow faces which get the color come through them. So I am going to say a yellow face type 2 grey. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks
