  1. Hi, It's not usually a good idea to mix hookbill birds (budgies) with pointed bill birds (canaries). It can often result in the canaries loosing a couple of legs. I haven't heard of removing eggs and placing dummy eggs for budgies, this usually happens when breeding canaries. Females will usually lay clutches of 4-6 but many have larger clutches, some resulting in up to 9 or more eggs. Thanks
  2. Yes it has been an amazing start, i still have 4 boxes with a total of 14 eggs to hatch. Most of them are looking fertile and should hatch in a bit over a week. Regarding the leg rings, it's going to be a bit late to put them on now. I'm just wanting to have a quick and easy method to identify them when I sell them further down the track. Thanks
  3. Hi all, My breeding season has started off fantastically and I currently have 20 babies including 7 ino's. 4 different boxes have the ino chicks and most of them are beginning to get yellow pin feathers so they are going to be lutino. I am just wondering if there is anyway to mark the birds so you know who is from which clutch. They are just normal pet birds so I don't ring them or anything like that. Also would someone be able to tell me the chances of this being a lacewing. Grandparents for mum: Albino hen mauve cock Grandparents for dad: Lutino lacwing hen violet cock split to cinnamon Mum: opaline dominant pied yellow face grey Dad: Yellow cinnamon (mustard?) I can also provide the parents of the grandparents if needed but what are peoples thoughts on a baby from the mum and dad being a lacewing? It already has red eyes but is only a couple days old. Thanks for the help
  4. Hi all, Just thought I would provide an update on how things are going, they have successfully hatched 7 babies with 1 egg remaining. Both parents are sitting on the babies and are taking great care of them. Thanks
  5. Hi, I also house cockatiels with my budgies but the cockatiels are only male, but one of the cockatiels over the years has always helped the budgies incubate the eggs and then raise the babies without problems. But he usually allows the parents in the box as well. Thanks
  6. Hi Robyn, One of the dads hangs around the box and feeds one of the females and then that female feeds the other one, so only one male is attending to the females. I have another 5 pairs on eggs, and some of those eggs are due to hatch in the coming days. Thanks
  7. They now have 4 eggs, I believe both have laid but I don't know which egg is from who. One of the females tends to stay at the door of the box and protect it while the other incubates the eggs but they both still sit on them at times.
  8. Thanks, I will keep them together for now and let everyone know how it goes.
  9. Hi all, As some of you may know I colony breed, I have just started my season after having the boxes out for a fair amount of time. I have 2 females both over the age of 1 ready to breed and they have both picked the same box. By this I don't mean fighting over the box but both sitting in there without problems. Currently one of the females has laid her first egg today, both of the females have been sitting in the box warming the egg. Has anyone else had this happen and what ending has come from it? I am unsure to seperate them because they have gotten a long so well and aren't causing each other problems. Thanks
  10. Hi, If you aren't looking to breed them in the future it should be alright getting them from the same clutch. But it may be easier to get them from different clutches just incase you did ever want to breed them. Thanks
  11. It looks to me to be a young male budgie
  12. Hi, Yes the blue is pretty nice on both of them, I dont really have a clue if they cobalt, I always thought they were violets. No they are not related, the pied one I have never bred with as he is to old, but the other one I have had several clutches from with beautiful babies. Are you reffering to the two below? If you are they are not related, I bred the lacewing myself and have recently purchased the male. That's unlucky you lost the mum, I have bred quite a few of them over the past. Thanks
  13. Hi all, I haven't posted images of my birds for a while and I have added a few new ones since last time so I thought I would post some pictures of them. I have a around 20 budgies and also 3 cockatiels that live in the same aviary. The cockatiels are fine with the budgies and one of them helps some of the females with incubating the eggs and raising the chicks which is a bit of a surprise. So here are my birds, they are just the normal pet birds. As you can see this one enjoys her carrot. She's a young albino lacewing. Would you think the female on the left would be a golden face? when she was younger she was completely blue witha yellow face and now she is a sea foam green. You can't see it to clear here, but this lutino female is actually another lacewing. I believe the blue on the left is a grey wing and the blue on the right is a spangle, can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know his mutation? Here are my three cockatiels, 2 are normals and one is a white face. Thanks for looking, if anyone knows any of there mutations please feel free to let me know.
  14. Hi, I believe you can breed the English with normal without any problems. The budgie won't be as big as an English type but it won't be as small as a normal type. I haven't bred the two together before but I have had budgies which were a cross. Usually the head is big and the body is small. Some others will clarify it. Thanks
  15. Hi, I'm not to good with mutations so I am unable to help you out with this stuff, but I believe I am alright with lacewings as I have a couple. I thought that a lacewing was an ino (albino/lutino) with brown wings. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that would mean sunshine isn't a lacewing
  16. Hi, It can be very difficult to get budgies to try new foods, I noticed that budgies love corn on the cob and also bok choy. These were the first 2 foods my birds took to. To get them to eat fruit and veg you have to persist with it. Continuously place it in the cage and eventually they will start to try it and eat it. Good luck with it
  17. Hi, What do you currently feed her? If she has always been this size she wouldn't be egg bound.
  18. Hi, Try and make the room as dark as possible, place a blanket over the cage they are in. They won't be able to see and won't fly away as easily when you try and catch them.
  19. I'm not sure on his mutation but he's a male and a beautiful one aswell.
  20. Thanks Hilly, The 2 lutino lacewings i have at the moment were bred from the same dad but different mother. Would I be able to breed 1 of the lacewings sons which is a cinnamon with the other lutino lace wing, or would that be to closely related? Would that mean that the normal blue budgie is also split lacewing? and could that male be bred with the other lutino lace wings daughter which is also cinnamon? Can females be split to grey wing? The father of the 2 lutino lacewings is also a grey wing, he is also the father of the albino lace wing. Thanks
  21. Hi, I have 2 lutino lacewings and 1 albino lacewing all being females. I am wanting to continue breeding the lacewings but I don't know which males I need to continue breeding this gene. I have only bred the 2 lutinos and not the albino yet because of age. I paired one of the lacewings with a male split to cinnamon and got a couple of cinnamons from them. I also paired the other with a split lutino male, they only had one baby and the baby turned out a normal blue. I am going to a sale this weekend and will be purchasing a couple of males for them. I also have 2 beautiful grey wings and I am also wondering what colors would be best to pair them with to get more grey wings. Thanks
  22. Hi, She doesn't have the wing markings yours has and she also has no tinge. She is a pure white. Thanks
  23. Beautiful babies, nice looking spangle you have, is the first picture an albino?
  24. hi, They are both females, I have had a couple of cinnamons and they seem to have the same ceres as other budgies. If you know the parents of them you would be able to tell them much easier. Thanks
  25. Are the pictures showing upside to anyone else or just me? And thanks for the reply
