My sick budgie
cruel because you live hundreds of miles from a avian vet ? sorry but i dont see this as advice, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know if your bird is ill you might need a vet or help
-
My sick budgie
that statement in itself is telling people not to keep a pet if there are no avian vets near my birds have never been given the once over or had any shots i have a vet 100 yards away but have never used him although he is not an avian vet he will try to help people with their pets
-
My sick budgie
so if there is not a specialized vet near you does this mean you can not have a pet,i live in the uk so quite a small area compared to america and australia and the nearest avian vet is over a 100 miles away

Nesting Materials
one or both of the chicks legs stick out sidways instead of being underneath supporting its weight
-
how much should a budgie weigh
average weight for exhibition budgie is 53.74g
-
to grit or not to grit.
this is only my opinion
-
Nesting Materials
yea they should be fine i use shavings from the pet store that you get for the bottom of rabbit cages
-
Nesting Materials
budgies dont build nests but i do put 2 to 3 inchs of wood shavings in the bottom this keeps the eggs and chicks warmer if the hen is scared of the nest also keeps the chicks cleaner around the legs but do not use sawdust as the chicks will inhale it and it will kill them
-
to grit or not to grit.
yes budgies do hull there seed but they also have a gizard like all birds and i belive that this can become ulcerated if grit is not given, i also believe the hens use the grit to help with the chicks when feeding them so they can produce the different consistencies the different ageed chicks need

Bleeding Budgie!
ithink this is a very good point if it works for you why change it
-
to grit or not to grit.

babys weaning
no problem ask as many questions as you like charlie sounds like he wants to breed again did you have a hidy hole for your chicks to get in mine are basically a little platform 3 inches high that the chicks can get under if attacked i put my soft food on top of this.it will not hurt the chicks to try the seed on the floor infact thats a good sighn,i soak my seed for 24 hours
-
babys weaning

scratching budgie
if you have one of those garden sprays use that with tepid water but do it first thing on a morning so he has plenty time to dry
