if it is overgrown once it is trimed it should be fine if cuttle is provided if it is undershot it will need to be trimed regularly for it to de husk its seed properly the vet should give you some advice so you can do it your self to save your journy time pbfd normally affects chicks and young adults but can affect older birds, there is a loss or failure to grow ,the large wing feathers, adult birds will also eventually lose some of its body feathers at each moult, affected budgies dont show other symptoms and are bright and alert unlike some of their larger relatives,as i am sure you know it is highly infectious and without a cure

one of the biggest reason for dead in shell is bacteria passed from fingers onto the eggs

you should not take the egg out to candle it the last thing i would advise is to touch the egg

its were the poo sticks around the vent if it gets bad it can kill the bird
  9. hath replied to a post in a topic in Health Questions and Tips
this is a hard one to answer as this condition is called clag but it is normally a bi-product of something else that is wrong if he seems fine in himself dab his vent with cotton wool or cloth soaked in warm water dont try and pull it of

i dont see the problem with this if you are breeding for fun my fathers nest boxs are 5 feet from the floor with no way to go but down and i dont think he has lost any chicks with them being this wat except for really young ones (few day old ones) where the hen has either pushed them out or have been startled and the hen has pulled them out by accident birds in the wild dont have this option

heat doesnt make the moult quicker, but heat, amount of light all affect the condition of the bird so will affect the moult

35% what do you base this on ?

which is it ? do you mean you handled the chick at 3 weeks or took it away from its parents at 3 weeks ? the question was when to seperate chicks from adults, 3 weeks is way to soon and in my opinion the chick would die unless you hand fed it we are not complaining but very worried as a lot of new breeders come here for advice and a mistake (if it is one) could have a terrible ending

surely this is a mistake mine dont leave the nest till 5 to 6 weeks if they do i put them back

first it takes 18 days for the eggs to hatch so it will be the 19th not the 17th but dont be suprised if it is the 21st as some birds dont start to incubate till the 2 egg is laid most of mine start to hatch early afternoon this year but i dont tnink i have had any hatch at night at all but dont know if any body else has hopefully they will be loud as this stimulates the hen into feeding them hopefully feed them and continue to sit on the rest of the eggs and keep the i try and leave the chicks with the parents for 10 days after leaving the nest as this ensures they are feeding themselves properly as for the aviary depending which country your in in the uk wait till the frosts have finished and all the birds can go outside and as long as you have a indoor part they will be okay to stop out next winter hope this helps
  16. come and read some of our papers here your fingers are jet black by the time you finish

another little tip leave about 5or 6 inchs between boxs as it is not unheard of **** birds sitting on top and running along them chasing other birds away

it could be trichomonas it is quite commen in budgies, caused by a very minute parasite, the symptons are nibblingas if they had seed in their mouths, retchingas if they are trying to be sick and actual vomiting with feathers below and on top of its head becoming matted with vomit fluffed up and sitting in the corner with its eyes closed the runny poos could be stress if it is it im afraid it will have to be the vet
  23. just recieved my copy of budgerigar world they are in the process of gathering a list of avian vets world wide and will be puting this on their website i will post a link when this is up and running

three weeks is the longest i leave a pair then if no eggs break them up for 7 to 14 days then if in condition try again. ghalib and janice Al Nasser are some of the most successful breeders and showers in the country and you wont go far wrong if you listen to their advice

simple answer is yes evan out of condition they will try to breed now its not the laying of eggs that causes the problems its the strain of bringing up the chicks that is why it is recommended that only two clutches in a year
