Broken Egg
now and again i find a egg on one of the cage floors the next one is almost certainly laid in the box, one thing to check make sure your hen is clean underneath as sometimes the egg could stick to her as she leaves the nest

Checking if Eggs are Fertile
as soon as i am certain that the round is clear
-
HELP
yes you would have to wait till the chicks were removed, i personally would remove her to a stock cage for a week before introducing a new male they can have more than 4 or 5 chicks in a nest it is just that 4 is the recomended number to get the hen to feed properly and to get the best out of the chicks,if this was there first round i would have left them with all the eggs as some wont hatch and some chicks will die
-
HELP
dont put another **** in as she could attack it she should be fine to bring up the chicks on her own if not foster the chicks out if you can
-
Checking if Eggs are Fertile

-
Checking if Eggs are Fertile
dont handle the eggs at all if you can nerwen right about the germs candling is putting a small penlight against the egg when the eggs are about 6 to 8 days old you should see the veins starting to form if they are fertile
-
I took the eggs
heavily feathered
-
I took the eggs
make sure they are in breeding condition, are old enough or not to old, if this was there first time let them try again as some maiden pairs just dont get it right the first time,if they are buff birds you might have to trim the vent feathers
-
temperature
i dont know about lowest but in the winter my birdromm is heated between 10 and 15 degrees any lower and your hens could become egg bound as for light mine have 11 full hours with half an hour of the light dimming but if you are not showing your birds then wait till the wild birds are breeding thats the time to start in a aviary
-
light and heaters
i have a baby night light in my aviary with a light sensor but once again you need electric if you can find a light which suits you spray paint over the lense to cut out some of the light. to check you have enough light and not to much when it is dark turn on the night lights after 5 sec you should just be able to see the perches any more light and you could have to much activity
-
light and heaters
i know of no heaters to use without electric that would be cost efficient you can buy small heaters to heat tents ect but would cost a fortune to use
-
