laying eggs is no trouble for your birds its bringing up the young that takes it out of them it once took 18 months to get a pair of birds to breed (i was desperate to get this pair to breed) so you never know

tequilabudge you should have blocked the nest box hole up for 3 to 4 days to make sure she has time with the **** then given access as you mite end up with another clear clutch if its been 7 to 10 days since you took the eggs away she could be getting ready to lay again

this condition is called clag and there are many causes you did the rite thing by removing this as it could block the vent and kill the bird it should be removed twice a day if possible by immersing the back end of the bird in warm water and the mass gntly teased apart

they were not dead in the shell as they did not get that far i candled them after about 8 days and all the eggs were fertile but the big ones did not go any further ie no chick developed

sorry i have to disagree with this 99.9% of the eggs my birds lay are around the same size this year i have had one egg the same as you and it does not affect any more eggs she lays in this clutch or future clutchs

i cant say exactly if mine go marble like as once i have candled them i dont check that closley i check the nest twice a day but that is to check on the hen

i mark my eggs with a water based marker pen that i was given till now but alas it has stopped working so i went to the news agents for a new one and they dont actually say if they are water or ink based so my question is the ones marked washable are these water based

i tend to find an odd egg on the floor of the flights after i have removed the hens from the breeding cages but not full clutches

some hens dont start incubating untill the second egg is laid also i find if any arnt going to hatch it is normally the first one that fails it would have been best to candle them at about 4 to 6 days old to see the veins but my eggs do go darker as they get older
