  1. I can't add to anything said on mutations except two ae definately spangles. All are male I think. Males have a solid, pink cere while females are blue with a white over cast.
  2. Lettuce has basically no nutritional value at all. It is most water, so it ( if given in large amounts ) can cause the runs. Try carrot tops. 5 months back, my budgies had no interest in greens. After they started eating it I let them have a family, so suddenly they ate everything! To get them interested I gave them gum branches, then, when they were eating the leaves, I hid carrot tops in there. Within half a day they're beaks were green.
  3. Piccy time!
  4. I got Pebbles when I was eight. She ( I think it was a she ) was a dom sky pied ( opaline ). I'm surprised I can even remember that. She was never tame but she was let out around the house. I lost her due to not quarrantining (I didn't know!), but not after her new mate died. I found her at the bottom of the cage ( she slept there and I didn't know any better ) and new something was wrong. She lived! A friend looked after her when we were away and I didn't see her again. My interest probably got started unconsiously at the age of three. A friend was colony breeding in her aviary and I was allowed to come over to hold some three week old chicks. I fell in love lol. Then she showed my some eggs and a day old chick. After Pebs I lost a lot of budgies to not quarrantining and a friend letting them escape. Finally I got my large cage. In it was Alfie, Theodore and Marigold. I went to the bird fair. I bought two birds off a breeder. His exact words: You can just put them in the evening and they'll be fine. I had still not caught on to quarrantine. So I had five budgies in my cage with a nest box the breeder gave to me. Then three of the budgies died. Only Marigold and Boofer were left. I thoroughly scrubbed my large cage with discenfectent. Then Boof succummbed. I watched Marigold carefully for about 3 months before I got Skye. Then you guys told me abot quarrantine. I did that, with some difficulty from dad ( he believes that they should be treated like dogs ) and you know the rest. I just wish I'd known about quarrantine before because now I fell soo guilty!
  5. From what I've been told, keep the dead bird in a air-tight plastic bag in the fridge. I am sorry for your loss and good on you for deciding to have an autopsy performed. Keep a close eye on your other birds as they have been exposed to whatever Sunny had. If the birds start showing any signs of being ill, bring them inside and set up a hospital cage with a heat lamp. Ring your vet. Mevabacteria is now found in most budgies bowels. It is a secondry illness. How drafty is your cage? Ps. I am not an expert! The other members probably know more on this subject than I.
  6. They will be of base yellow I think. How did you get lacewings, GB? Is the hen split?
  7. I know.. had a close shave with my birds and draft.
  8. http://www.parrotforums.com/ This site has a load of info on parrots in general. Oh, and this is an old topic.
  9. Please check the dates on the topics before you post love em all. This is from last year.
  10. I'll give her that advice........ she usually takes my advice very well. I have sent her an email. I've told her that there are good quality cages at permuans for $35 and I can lend her money if her parents don't think he needs a larger cage. If her parents don't agree I could board her budgie at my place to wean him onto vegies and excersize.
  11. Maybe she was clipped as a baby before she developed her wing muscles? I think Marigold was as she coldn't fly when we got her and now, a year and a bit later, she is flying almost as well as the others! She is still slower and when she panics she loses some controll but I'm working on that. Marigold isn't a tame bird either... I wouldn't say any of mine are tame, we have just reached an agreement and therefore they aren't scared of me and step up ( appart from Skye) and come over to nibble on my skin ect. You're making progress, well done! Proceed slowly. Try millet maybe? Sitting outside the cage with the cage open?
  12. I have no pest except maybe the sparrows that come and chirp at them. And the wasp that was in the cage ( my budgies kept trying to grab it mid air and eat it ) but I don't think that was really harmful. Mice can't get into the cage as it is suspended.
  13. Thanks guys. It isn't my bird and it is sitting in a draft. I suggested for them to move it out, up higher. Poor thing is apparently overweight.
  14. I'll ask tommorrow for more pics. Is he some yellow face?
  15. A friend gave me some pictures of her male budgie to comfirm he was indeed a he. I am very confused on the mutation though, so I asked her permission to show her pics to you guys. http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy62/Ra...09/IMG_1919.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy62/Ra...09/IMG_1917.jpg I am going to feel soo embarrassed when everyone knows what mutation he is and I don't..... Ps. I gave her this site address and told her if gives extremely good advice.
  16. I hate to say it, but if you don't get her to an AVIAN vet right now she will probably die. You said she was acting sick. Once budgies have passed this stage they usually die without vetinary treatment or at the very least a heat lamp and being kept hydrated. If this is over a few weeks ( tumour/cyst/thingy) then it may or may not be a quickly progressive tumour/cyst/other. You don't have her on a very good diet. They need fresh fruits and veggies every day. Even if she didn't like the veggies and fruit then you could at least keep trying. A poor diet can affect tumours ( I think ). Keep her under a heat source and hydrated and ring your AVIAN vet and ask the price if that is what you're worried about.
  17. I've seen a blue eyed lamb, Amy's twin was one. Unfortunately he died at 1 week of age from some sort of illness. Amy was stronger, and she was taken to the vet.
  18. That is exactly what I'd do... if my parents would let me. So for now I have to just spread rumours ( true ones) and watch out for any more sick birds. I too have a habit of speaking out when I should keep my mouth shut. I just can't stand to see any form of animal cruelty. Dad got rid of Lucky, and I don't know where.
  19. Thanks I haven't inquired at the pet shop but a friend is going to ask about him and if they say something that doesn't match my evidence, like, he died, or, they took him to the vet, or he flew away ( couldn't fly ) then I will pounce! I really hate the people who let him get that way, then sold him to people who know nothing. His name is Lucky. I thought about it last night, and he's lucky because if I hadn't happened to be passing by, then he would have died horribly, days ago. At least I made him comfortable.
  20. RIP little guy. I did all I could, it just wasn't enough.
  21. 1# yf t2 sky blue rec pied 2#grey spangle rec pied I think they are both female. Don't take my word for it though.
  22. I just rang all the vets in town... none are open till Monday. A nice lady on the phone suggested keeping it warm and hydrated, exactly what I'd been doing.
  23. Awwwww
  24. Thank you. I'm in the process of begging dad to take him to the vet. I've done some research and they HAVE to treat him and they won't charge us probably because legally, he isn't ours. I suringe fed him some more hand rearing formula but I'm not sure the good that will do.
