My Birds Are Unwell
This is my set up GB, a few changes since this picture was taken though.... * I no longer have the breeding boxes in the avairy, they are on shelving against the side of the avairy. * The whole avairy has been moved about 2 metres more under the roof of the pergola so it is all under cover, but they still get Morning and a bit of afternnon sunlight. * The avairy is on the pergola tiles - in the flight I have sand - as it is all undercover it does not get wet, but after a few days of rain everywhere gets that "moist/damp" feeling.....I hope that makes sense? Hope you are feeling better soon, take care.

Very Nervous Chick?
You are right GB.....I have removed eggs before but have an "issue" with it I guess, I need to look at it in a different way.... I will leave them alone as their is plenty of food available and if she does lay any more I will just toss them out... Thanks

My Birds Are Unwell
If damp and rain gets in then its a MUST to put the birds through a course of coccivet. Coccivet should be kept in the medicine cabinet. Rain does not get in Kaz, but after a few days of rain it gets damp. I have just done the cleaning so I will dose all birds with coccivet today......thanks.

Very Nervous Chick?
Thanks for the reply Dave. I don't want mum and dad to go for a third round, I want them to have a rest, as well as it will be way too hot for my birds to be breeding from now on, mum and dad are mating again so I was a bit eager to remove the nestbox - I have had seed and millett in the nestbox for 2 weeks. I will leave them alone til next weekend to see what happens.

My Birds Are Unwell
What drinkers will you be changing to GB? When will you know the result of the autopsy? And... yet again you post's have helped me, this time giving me a kick up the *** in regards to hygene..., It's been raining here since last Thursday and I have said to myself every day I am going to disenfect the avairy floor but I haven't....and I should know better....and I know that cocci is a threat when it's damp and not 100% clean.....so I'm off now to put my gloves and cleaning clothes on to do it NOW. :emoticon112:

Very Nervous Chick?
Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!.... I took this chick out of the nesting box and on the floor of the same cage yesterday as it was fully feathered and will be 5 weeks old tomorrow, I put a ice cream container on the floor of the cage with seed and millet and 2 small shallow water pots....It seemed to really freak out....panting very heavy and was not interested in the ice cream container at all, I popped her in there, she was just running around the bottom of the cage until she worked out how to get back to the nesting box... I took her out again to the floor, this time with her sibling which is a few days younger than she is, the younger one just perched with mum and dad, the other one was panting and her chest was pounding and found her way back to the nesting box. There is another chick that is not fully feathered yet so I don't want to remove the nesting box just yet. When this chick is in the nesting box it just has its head right up the back in a corner, while the others are moving around and waiting at the entrance for food, this one does not moove, I have not seen mum or dad feed this one for a while, the nesting box bedding is seed and millet and has been for 2 weeks but this chick is a bit thin... Should I be concerned?, I have never seen a chick act this way before....seems very nervous although does not attempt to bite be when its being held, there is nothing that would have frightened it that I am aware of. What are your thoughts?

New Babies
It's a light purple all over, but looking at the photo again, it's not a good shot, maybe the chicks head being on an angle does not give it's true colour...I will take another one today and post here.. :emoticon112:

Kaz, Number 4 was the only one I "thought" I was 100% right with... :emoticon112: !!! Are you saying a hen because the chick is recessive? Or can you see white on your monitor?

Hen Is Laying But Not Sitting!
Hi there, I know the eggs once laid don't need incubation, I think they can go a few days, a few of my hens don't sit on thier eggs until they have laid them all. Can you foster the eggs to another pair? I can't help with incubating them yourself....even if you did do that, did you plan on hand raising once the chicks hatch...I guess it could be done but you would have to really know what you were doing, can you crop feed if something goes wrong? If it were me, I would remove the nesting box and dispose of the eggs...I don't like doing it either but if you don't have a foster pair I wouldn't even consider incubating myself. Good luck with whatever you decide to do...
