She was ringed "08, a YF Violet I purchased off DrNat last year........... * Healthy looking and active * chewing and flirting * I handle them to make sure they feel "solid" * I had her in the breeding box for 2 weeks on her own, fresh veg every day, ( a mix of carrot, peas, corn, small amount of cucumber, beans) and egg and biscuit (wet) twice a week. * She had a iodine block. * fresh millett every other day in the nesting box * Fresh water every morning * Fresh seed daily * change of newspaper daily (Due to big poo's) She "seemed" fine.........but obviously I'm missing/ not noticing something.....

When I took her out of the cage I felt her vent and could not feel an egg, she was well fed.....

What have I done wrong !!!!??????? I got home from work and checked my birds....one of my hens in the breeding cabinet has died.... She seemed fine, seemed healthy and active and eating and in good condition.......??????? She had 4 eggs, one was broken so I disposed of it, the other three seem okay, not sure if fertile? Do I foster these eggs?? I have 4 other nests available....if I do can I mark the eggs so I know which is what?? She started to incubate them on the weekend, Im not sure how many hours since she passed away, the last time I checked was last night, she was in the box and all was well......

I had a hen about 10 years ago that talked.........

Thanks GB..... colours can be very hard with monitor colours being different..... I don't have a recent photo of the hen, she is sitting on 6 eggs at the moment, so as soon as she starts coming out of the nestbox more I will get a new picture... Will keep you posted if there are opaline chicks...

Yep... all head markings on the white cock are grey. There is no blue on the hen... all mint green and yellow and black.

well apart from the fact i had one just like him his lines are actually blue not grey would i be right hes not grey wing hes opaline cobalt you can also tell hes double dom from where the cut off to his head strips are theirs the faintest tiniest few lines past the cheek stripping not sure if you can see it but i can not very good pics so cant be positive but bet you get opaline hens i also say he would be split rec pied but thats just as one eyes normal one ringed the golden face sky blue hen does she have all mint green markings or does she have blue (sky)visible on rump GB..... I think all the markings on his head are grey except his cheek patch(he only has one) is purple? - I will have a look at him again today to be sure....... The hen is all mint green .....

Cool idea Kaz!!!!!!!!!!!! We have one of these and use it on the redback spiders we have here in QLD that get under our outdoor chairs and tables - plant pots...... EVERYTHING....... one blast and they are SIZZLED !!!!!!!!! Going to try this on the avairy!! :question:

Well I paired up the 4 birds above as well as 4 other pairs so I will see what happens.... so far 9 eggs all together.

Hannah.... So sorry to hear Nibbles is sick. You need to put him in his cage with a lamp and a normal light bulb, leave the lamp on all night, the light will not bother him if he needs the warmth, keep the cage covered as well (but not near the lamp), put pleanty of water and only seed in the cage. I can't advise on medication but this is what I would do until I could get him to the vet.... Good luck and keep us posted....
