I'm not judging you Clancy.....you will do what you think is right....Kaz was not judging you either, just voicing her opionon like you are, I too colony bred, it did not work out for me, I lost my hen and all the chicks...if you can do it then great but I think 99.9% of people have heartache....Kaz has helped me so much in the last 12 months, so I trust her advice 120%...Good luck mate.... Thanks everyone.... I think your right Dave, her life was just too tough... but it makes me so angry that people let them get this bad....It's not only birds, any animal - they need to be strung up....I just hope one day they get what they deserve... :fingerscrossed: I'm wondering if it was the mites that eventually took her life..as 2 toes on her left foot dropped off when she was at her worst yesterday, no blood and it was the half the toe, not just the nail......her right eye closed over all black and very watery..... Why when she seemed to improve so much then went downhill really quickly, the other 2 are showing no signs on being ill......

Are you meaning the mum??If so.....no she has been feeding her chicks and regurgitating food so a bit of it goes "crusty"......she is in perfect health... That's great. I was thinking about breeding for show, but I think I will just breed big pet types for a bit longer as I enjoy combining all the mutations and colors too much.I love that part of it too!!! love seeing what colours I'm going to get......

:hmm: I GIVE UP!!!!! The green hen with bad scaley face was fluffed up on the bottom of the cage this morning..... one eye has totally closed over....looks like 1 toe is about to fall off???????What is happening?I have removed her and bought her inside in my hospital cage wath a warm lamp, she was VERY light....even though I watched her eat seed last night..I have given cocci treatment for 7 days prior to her becoming sick, excact medications name was "Coccivet" by Vetafarm..I am OVER this bad luck, what can I do guys?? Also....what should I be doing for the other guys she was with as the grey one was feeding her this morning??? Picture of my girl... How can she go from being so much better......... to the next day be on deaths door.... I feel so sad for her.... ...

Well at last a bit of good news........little baby had food in crop when I got home so I decided to leave her be....will check again around midnight.... GB..You are correct...baby was a bit pale "in patches".... Splat....The mum and Dad seem in perfect health....so they are just carrying this salmonella??

Checked this morning.....not fed I bought her in and fed her again until her crop was full... It is the only other foster nest I have with chicks...the others are still eggs..... What do I do? keep feeding her? I am at work today til 4 so I hope she makes it though the day....

Well new chickie (Kaz) was very weak and cold this morning with no food in belly or crop.... Hen was out of the box trying to escape the cage....there seemed to be regurgitated food in the nest but none for baby....I have fostered her and the remaining egg this morning, thats IT for that hen...I removed them to a holding cage for a week or so and then I will put her back in the avairy....NEVER to breed again.... I hope little Kazzy makes it.......... Will check her throughout the day.... Splat....does that mean the egg was bad? Or the hen ate something bad when the egg was developing.....? How can they get salmonella when they have'nt eaten anything? Isn't that llike food poisoning?

Are we talking "Dark eyed clears" as in the topic heading? Sorry.... but my DEC male cere's don't ever turn blue.....

And I didn't even get the oats that day !! (thanks Kaz for adding the "before" photo).....

Just an update on my new guys..... She is looking soo much better even after just 8 days, although still a ways to go.... Will get better close up photo's next weekend..... :rofl: BEFORE AFTER

That's just how it is Houman until he/she is fully featherd!!...(is feathered a word!!!!!!!) Just think of it as the end result will be a SURPRISE !!!
