  1. To add to Karen info, they start to fledge around 4 to 6 weeks. He little harry is still in your care by the end of the week I would start offering some seed, he may simply play around in it to start with. Millet is a good seed for them to learn to crack open on they own. I'm glad you felt you could take them on, it's a big jump into ownership of budgies to start off with a whole flock (breeding flock as well). Feel free to ask all questions that come to you and welcome.

Mine wake and sleep with the sun at the moment that is around 6 pm and light around 5 - 5.30 am, They like to sing with the wild ones then and wake me up (and I'm sure the neighbors) I don't hear them unless they have a night fright or the damn neighbors cat bugs them like it did twice the other night.
  3. That is my belief with this mutation as well Bea. I wouldn't mind checking out the link given too.
  4. Also if you are worried about him getting out before you get the new cage, a small dish of seed out side on the cage maybe can help with the food. I think he would be fine with out water for that time.

he is so cute and you can see his in the pictures he has loads of spunk  He is going to make that family feel so special.
  6. All I can suggest is years of experience  I hope someone will give a better answer soon, it would be interesting to know.

    I agree 100% with Bea.
  8. Spangles have a mix of white and blue cheek patches. Some have more white others have more blue. I don't see any other signs of pied such as yellow on body, clear patches on wings or clear flight feathers. I was thinking from the first post that she had just found the bird that day. So does your new little man have a name?
  9. Spangle greengreen, like you thought. The black dot is simply a mis marked feather back to the normal rather than the spangle. The yellow mark is just where the spangle lines are thinned to missing. He could have had a fight to lose the feathers. Are you planning on a vet check or are you still looking for the owners first? And how could you not like spangles?
  10. That male is a spangle I cant tell if he is a normal green or a goldenface (a blue with a bleed of yellow that covers the body turning it a teal-green over each moult) Spangle is a dominant gene. With Single Factors (like he is) you can get 50% spangles and 50% normal. This also depends on what the hen is. If she isn't a normal their are more factors that could show up as well. Also since the hen has mated with both of them there is the chance of getting babies from both males in the same clutch.

They are super cool Paul, they are like the cat and dog self feeders. I can't wait to see it all finished Daz.

I have never colony bred, simply for the problems you have now. Yes removal of the problem maker is the way to go. You can set her and the male up in a single cage with a nest box to continue their breeding. Look at how close the nest boxes are to each other, if bumper to bumper territorially issues can arise which might have been the start of the hen trying to take them all.

FGM - I wanted a clone from the next breeding I did with the parent and didn't get one So I think he is one in a million It is shawna - nice to be able to see them grow up as well.
  14. Oh Karen I'm so sorry to hear the about the lost of your little one
  15. Sorry to hear you are having to talk over for the mum Fingers crossed this one makes it for you.
  16. If I'm reading right you have waited 12 days AFTER the due date of the LAST egg. If this is the case I think you have waited long enough to be sure none will hatch. If you want her start another round in hopes of fertile eggs the second time just remove the eggs. If you just want to stop her now remove the box.
  17. I agree that the string shouldn't be in there, many others have had no issues with paper towels in the nest box.

Glad you all think he is as cute as I do. Maybe I could record his noises and give her a plastic one back
  19. The second bub is kinda confusing, the wings look like a normal greywing but with the parents both spangles (one sf the other Df) you can't get a normal marked baby. Are the two middle tail feathers white? They seem to be in the picture. Of cause there is nothing stopping this one from being a spangle greywing.
  20. Thanks for the pictures of the parents. I love Marty's colouring. Look like you can mark your hen split for blue too So am I mad in thinking you have a bub fathered by Honk? Never mind I just found the other thread with Honk and Paris's bubs
  21. Ahh right I had to go back and look for your other post I didn't see it before.

Yep, if you look in one picture you will see water on it from him throwing it in the water dish I gave him (plus the fellows outside) some carrot and sprouts after the photos, walked by an hour later and the ball was in the fresh food dish.

Most of you know PP and me are friends. Well while she is out having fun on a holiday I said I would baby sit little scuttle for her. He settled in nicely here, but then as long as he has his ball he is happy anywhere I thought I would give you all some piccies of him to see how beautiful he is. He has the best blue teal colour on his chest that didn't really show up. I still say he is one of the best coloured bubs from Marine and Tootie. First few are with flash: The rest are with out flash: I think this one is the closest to his real colour.
