Hi Tracey and welcome. It;s nice to have friends that can help :hap: I hope you enjoy it here Maine Coon cats are so cute
  3. Love the guy in picture 4.
  4. But Karen you gave her a measured dose by crop needle, not mixing it in water. I think that would be why it was safe to do so.
  5. If the vet was really worried about either of them he would have done the xray there and then. I think he was just warning you of the possibilities. Fingers cross he get better soon.
  6. Type 1 is where the yellow is only found on the head of the bird. Type 2 is when you get bleed through of the yellow into the body of the bird at each molt. Baby type 2 yellowface appear as type 1's but will get the mix of blue and green on the body as they grow. Also some yelowface and goldenfaces can appear as a normal green, they way to check is to look under the wings, the patch of feathers on the body there will be blue not green. Freckle - Goldenface Marine - goldenface/yellowface type 2 (son of freckle) when young Marine when over a year old

Sorry to hear that the little one didn't make it. It is sad losing them. You have done all you could for her at this time and are learning so as to help the others now. Try and hunt out an avian vet as well. With a cage full of birds you are going to need one for big and small issues.
  8. I'm wondering if your male is a violet-green. Goldenface is also possible, but since he was paired with a green known to be split for blue then more blue or yelowface babies should have turned up. Violet-green and Olives are hard to tell apart since the colouring end up almost the same. The reason it has crossed my mind is the blue showing around the legs. And seeing the dark sister with a lot of blue showing around the leg and vent area.
  9. why is when I want my bird book it goes missing, yet it has been next to the computer for weeks! Anyway from memory the mottle gene adds more black markings with each molt. That may help you work out if you have one or not.
  10. Hi Norm, thanks for sharing your story. I look forward to hearing about your the bird you have now. I know a member here (daz) has an older male that after a few tries was able to fill eggs when he was put on sparks. (I think that was what was used)
  11. yep clearly male. You should learn to trust yourself Paul
  12. I should have realized you meant split for
  13. Welcome to the site Norm. Your bird is stunning I want to steal him (or her?) To the genetic side of things - if mum is a light green then this one can't be olive since you need two dark factors for that colour (light greens have none) Is he the same shade of green to the dad? Can we get pictures of both the parents? I'm interested in the dad with the red eyes and spangle/opaline markings. The baby is a opaline spangle as you thought.

First how old is your little Nibbles? (seems like a perfect name choice ) If she is still young you may be moving too fast for her to be settled with your hand and fingers. Sometimes to move forward you need to take a step back. Move slowly around her cage get her to step up when ever she starts to bite, as in keep her at for a 1 minute or so. First think to try with the biting is as the other said ignore it, but sometimes this doesn't help either. You have a better chance with her wings clipped to keep her in place to do training, since she can't fly high up and away from her. As to your sisters bird keep them apart from each other as you try to train. There shouldn't be an issue with breeding unless your hen finds something she sees as a nest site. But if you watch closely you can remove something like that.
  15. sounds like a great start to a beautiful friendship.
  16. vomiting is normally more violent with the seed spraying around becuase they shake their heads to remove it. I would keep her separate like you have and monitor for other signs of sickness like the vet said.
  17. I would lean more to male since of the age of the bird would have given time to see the cere change in a hen.
  18. I think this is an interest gene But I haven't seen any in real life
  19. And aslo golden face is used more often when the body turn to a green that looks like a normal green. The type 2 is still used becuase the yellow bleeds into the body just like the yellowface. I agree with Karen on their types but thought to let you know harlequins is another term used for Recessive pieds in australia.

She is a large bird? Was her flight wobbly or unbalanced at all? I think you did the right thing, if you have a small travel or hospital cage she can be in that for a while so you can watch her. If you think she has an egg she might have a swollen vent area and her poops will be large and slightly runny. Some even have a visible bump between their legs when forming an egg. A heat lamp (bed or table light work) on the cage will help her stay comfortable if she is sick. And covering the side of the cage helps too.
  22. Budgies are not like Chickens that lay continuously, only when they have the right conditions as lovey as stated (although there are a few that will lay even when alone). If you can get pictures up on here we can help with the gender.
  23. Joey they are all the same size to me, sometime the cookies on your computer takes a while to update to the new sizes. (I think Karen uses the email size for her pictures) They are all looking great. That first shot of Angel makes her look like a quail I can see grey markings on the wings she may have the dilute gene or she may just look pale from the spangle gene. (also I say her but only cause you think so, i can't tell from this size picture)
  24. good to hear things are going well.
