As long as the hen is under 3 years old and over 12 months she is okay to breed with. The age difference will not matter to them. A male shouldn't be used to breed with over 6 years. Yes he will most likly stop talking. I must say to many here having a budgie that talks is VERY tame. I believe he will stop becuase when I got my male Pie he mimiced a phone ring but that stoped about two months after getting him when he started to bond strongly with my other bird at the time Freckle. But then there are others like Una's Apple that flirts with other 'pet' birds in the house with all the words he knows.
  2. wow stunning picture I think he is in heaven.

As Lovely stated what are you hoping for with the addition of budgies to the family. A crazy lovable bird that wants to spend time with you nd your family, as in riding on your shoulder and possibley talking or a crazy lovable flock that you can watch and giggle at their antics?? A group of budgies brought together will bond with each other very easily, but there are exception. Also are you kids the type that can share? If not think about getting them one each to have in a single cage and train with. But as always it come back to what you are wanting for your family. Work that out first and the rest slots in.

either she isnt a good breeder or they arn't mating correctly or he isn't firtile. Do you pair your birds up or is it natural love in your flock?? If you pair them up you could try both with different partners to see if you get a different result.
  8. Aww great picture Karen, I wasn't sure about the name until you exlained it and I think it's cute. Thanks for the piccie of the cute one I asked about or better known as "Lin's" new puppy (think she is ready to shoot me yet?) I'ld take him if I could He looks so pudgy in that shot. Missed the questiong before about Spot and Precious Baby, I think you have a mauve spangle opaline there. As to butter kid I'm not sure s/he seems to match a perfect clearwing.
  9. It sounds like in this one that 2 weeks have past since the last egg laid. If this is right then this round of eggs is clutch number two. Good luck I hope these ones are able to hatch and glad to see another face (so to speak) around.
  10. Work with her with your son around, but if he is worryed about being biten right now I would use the stick training, many don't talk about it nowday but it's worked for me. It's the same as getting them to step up on your finger but you use a small dowel stick (or anything you like) She gets the interaction and the training to step up on cammand but no little fingers are in the way to be bitten. Later when she is gentler swap the stick for a finger. Also you could adding in some finger stepping every now and then so she get use to both ways.
  11. The poor little man. Sending hope and wishes your way that he pulls through.
  12. they look wonderful Bubbles I can't belive how much my little Zuess has grown He looks like an adult now!
  13. I was given a small 'caring for your budgie' type book after my granddad died and after reading it over a few times wanted one myself to train and bond with. Of cuase that first one wasn't so tame :(Laughing out loud): but I still loved the cheeky nature of them. Now I can't picture not having one.
  14. Thank you all for the name Idea but I think he is going to be ...... Kree Yes I can see all the "huh" looks around the world right now I'm a stargate fan and at the moment making my way through all 8 seasons on DVD. The day after we got this fellow my family was joking with stargate names and I said what about "Kree" as a laugh but it suited and even after trying out all other names this one kept coming up. For those that don't know Kree actully means "pay attention" or "listen up"
  15. I agree with Hurdy. FOr Dave look at the flight wings and you can see the thin line easily. The size is fine :hap: good work. They all look great are you planing on breeding?
  16. It's pritty hard to tell but I think Scooter is a girl. Since the bars are still so close to the beak the fact the cere looks blueish now is more of a girls trait. Boys have a strong pink colour. As to what her colouroing is : she is a yellowface. Do the wings have yellow on them as well? If she she is type 2 if not type 1. The difference is the type two will gain more green as they groow up where as the type one only has yellow on the face area.
  17. *Looks up prices to Penrith* okay I'll be there in a two weeks :hap: Got a spare room?? :(Laughing out loud):

sometimes caged birds will shake their wings after a bit of fly around and such. it's good to hear he isn't fluffed.
  25. OMG UNA I wouldn't have thought it was possible :(Laughing out loud): The rubbing to spoke about is them touching cloacas and what you want to see more of. I'm wondering when the last time was too, I know they were infirtle but the laying off eggs still take calium out of the hen.
