Fat Budgies
Thanks Chrissie. Zebra did you take the budgies to an Avian Vet or just a general Vet. It may pay to get a second opinion

Fat Budgies
I read an article where they were saying that fitter Budgies breed better than fatter budgies. One breeder goes as far as giving his breeding pairs flying time where he does excactly what Eterri has said.

Fat Budgies
Good Advice Nerwen. Just one thing. It depends on the type of budgie as to the "over weight" thing. My birds can weigh upto 70 - 80 grams when in top condition.

One New Bird
Well thank you, I feel honoured. ..... and some good news. She laid her first egg today. :glare:. I am hoping that this will be a good clutch. Male is light Green Opaline. If all goes well the off springs should be: Females - Opalines, Opaline Greys, Opaline Spangles, and Opaline Grey Spangles Males - Green, Grey, Spangles and Grey Spangles but all split to Opaline. I'll keep you up to date.

One New Bird
forgot to ask for his exact age but he is over a year. His ring is red like Pie's so they might be the same age. edit- i just saw his ring better and found out it's not red but purple. I can't find that colour on the list of years I'm not going to handle him now but later I'll try to read the number. nd just after typing that I remember the guy wrote out his ring info for me and the parents. His ring is CB 450 -5. I'm sure daz can read that for me but I think it means he was born last year. Nerwen he is approximately 131/2 months old. He was hatched by a breeder in Caboolture Budgerigar Society and was number 450. He is a Grey Green Spangle with very good wing markings. Here is my Hen

Budgie Breeding ?
No keep playing with them. They won't mind at all. Additional vitamins to the seed is fine so long as it is at the correct dosage. It should be on the pack. Don't use the seed for 24 hours after you mix it. It gives it time to soak into the seed. Alway mix it well. Check the mix you are using to see if it has all the needed vitamins and calcium. Some don't. The change in the cere colour is due to her hormonal changes asshe is coming into season. At three years old and never bred before, you may have some trouble. Just keep an eye on her.

New Nest Box
Hi guys. I just used 7mm exterior ply. They are going to get messy and it's good to clean with a disinfectant after breeding.

Milk
Some breeders give wholemeal bread soaked in milk at night time and remove in the morning. It is a good weigh for the young hens to bring on the crop milk for the first time.

Fat Budgies
I feed mine on a canary base mix. I add to this the carrots, corn, sprouts and celery every day. What do your birds weigh?

Breeding Cages
Thanks Nerwen. The costs are around $80.00 to $100.00au but the charge for delivery might be too much. These are dual breeding cages. You can see these in in my web site. I also do singe breeding cages, nest boxes and stock cages. Nest boxes Stock Cages Single Breeding Cages. (Nest box not installed on this one) Got to get updated photo. :ausb:

Baby Budgie
Those "Yellowones" look like lacewings to me. Have they got light brown on their wings and do they have redish eyes?

Sydney Budgie Breeders Needed!
I am sorry too. I would have like to have a go at it.

Lettuce
Washed Lettuce is not too bad but just don't give it to them. As lovey said it does give them runny poops. Endive is a good substitute.

Budiges Mating
The hen will lay only if she "thinks" she has a safe place to keep the eggs. I put the "thinks" in due to Phoebe's problems.

Thank You
I am glad I could help. As I said I prefer Breeding Cages. I does help with controling breeding. Now a couple of points you put forward. I have also heard it is very difficult to buy a hen as breeders keep their hens who breed well and the hens in pet shops are usually the discarded ones from breeders? No this is not true. The hens I don't keep usually are to do with show quality and not their ability to breed. he will feel alienated if she hears new birds at our home that she cant interact with She will call to the outside birds. As will the outside birds call back to her. Is it true though that if we started with 2 pairs they would be more likely to breed faster (they copy each other?) It's not that other birds are breeding. Budgerigars are a coloney bird. They will breed better if they know that there is other budgies about. That is why I set my Breeing cages to face the flight. They can see and hear the other birds.

Thank You
Hi Puff and Welcome  I am glad that we could help you. As Karen and many others have said, ask any question even if you think it is silly. We don't. We all know what it is like to start at the beginning. It would be good to put up your ideas on how you are going to breed and we can give you ideas. The first thing is to set up an aviary and how you are going to breed, as in closed breeding or coloney breeding. I prefer closed breeding. You can see my set up by clicking on my signature.
