If you want to breed with out the trouble that the girls have said. Use the Aviary as a holding cage and set up an area with breeding cages. http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/aviary/aviary10.jpg My little set up. http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/aviary/aviary8.jpg left half is the flight with the right part where the breeding cages are set. Flight http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/aviary/aviary9.jpg Breeding cages.

I would take them out for a week Ros. Then reset them. Here is my set up if it helps. I put them in for 21 days. If no eggs they are put back in the flight for a week and then reset. Sometimes in works, some times it doesn't.

That looks good. I would probibly put a small box under the nest box to lift it up a bit more. But the way you have it should work.

James usually the hen will start to incubate on the 2nd or 3rd egg. That will mean that they should start to hatch on the 26th or 28th. They are a bit late. I would leave them to the end of this week to see what happens. The eggs could be adled. Sorry if they are. Do you know how to candle them?

Here is a picture of the cage, well the link anyways, couldn't get it any smaller. I am going to secure the nesting box this evening as soon as I find a larger nut that won't go threw the cage bars. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i198/che...reedingcage.jpg Thats great CherokeesBudgies, I would rearange the breeding cage to start with. Place the nest box high up in the corner or on the Side closest to you. (Front side) I would take out that perch that runs across the length of the cage and put two or three running from front to back. Budgies like the nest box to be dark. A hole facing everyone is not always prefered. A nest box high in a cage give the sense of more security. Perches running length ways stops the mating ritual of "Chasing" from one perch to another. Here is one of my set ups. The nest can be inside or out. I prefer outside because it give more room for the Budgies. I hope this helps

The next thing to do is to have patience. I would leave them in the breeding cage for 21 days and if no eggs take them out or remove the nest box. Leave the nest box out for a week to two weeks and then retry for 21 days. There is no garrentee that she will breed. She may not like the male or the surroundings. He may not like her that much. I have a male that I was given because he wouldn't breed for the previous breeder. He has now fathered two chicks for me. Just have patience and see what happens. Could you take a photo of the Breeding cage for us to see. Make sure the photo is maximum of 450 x 450. Anything larger and it slows the board down for those that are on Dial up.

I would try to buy another cage for the other two and remove the devide for more room. I would also put the nest box higher and outside as surgested. I would place the second cage next to that one. Budgies are comunal birds and would rather breed with other birds around. That is why I have my breeding cages facing the flight. So they think they are in a larger inviroment.

Well so long as he is about 12 months old when he comes out of quarentine, he should be okay.
  16. I hope he gets better. The best person to talk to is Renee. She is co incharge of the birds. Most of what they display as "Show budgies" have rings on. They may have change their policys. I haven't been there for some time now. I do know the birds are treated well.
  17. Which one is what ? :rip:
  18. Daz replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
How long has the cock bi in Quarrentine?. How old is he? If she was hatched in August you can start to breed with her this august.
  19. Daz replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
That is the part of breeding that will surprice you. :rip:

Leave them pretty much allone. Check them after lunch, thats the hotest part of the day. Let nature do the rest. My fingures crossed. :rip:
  21. Aparently all types are fine. Except the one in Dried Flower arrangements. It is poisionous. I lost our first bird because of it.
  22. Good point but remember that differnet mixes have different mixes. I use a mix that is made up by a top breeder and is low in fat. Golden Cob is the Top breeders choice in Australia for show birds.
  23. Daz replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
The question is what part of Australia are you in? If the eggs are fertile you are killing them. If they hatch it would be up to nature to decide. I'd let them stay. I am in Brisbane and have four pairs set for breeding. I have six chicks in two nest and four just fledging. I am having no problems with them.
  24. I would put her on some probotics. You should be able to get the correct ones at a pet store. I would limit the leaves until she settles down and back on to a seed based diet. Try giving some vegatables as we as the seeds. Eucalyptus is good for budgies, it's part of their natural diet but too much of somethings are not good.
  25. Just remember to suppliment fresh vegatables and fruits with it. I also give a high protein mix to my Breeders. It's god to mix a teaspoon of cod liver and wheat germ oil in with 500 grams of seed. To add vitamins. But remember that this will go off. If you only have a small number of birds, reduce the amounts.
