New Chicks
Karen they are all for sale. I'll keep the Albino for you. Hommer the rings are metal. I do it for practice for my show birds. I have 6 other chicks that have been ringed with my breeders rings. After looking at the first Lutino I wished I had ringed him with a breeders ring. He might be good enough for the show bench. Oh well.

New Chicks
Thanks Janette. Well they are up for sale in a bout 2 weeks. I have just put them in the Nursary. They will be there for 2 weeks until I am happy that they are feed okay. I have checked there weights and they are pretty good. Female Cobalt is 40 grams, 1st Male Lutino is 47 grams 2nd Male Lutino is 45 grams Male Albino is still with Mum and Dad but tips the scale at 57 grams at 4 weeks old. He will lose a bit of that when he starts to really feed himself. He will be going to the nursary in about 3 days.

Breeding Cage
a fit budgie is a good breeder. a fat budgie isn't. The Bigger the breeding cage the better the results. But availible space will dictate the size of the box.

Hath is right. You need also to know how to discipher the ring. In Australia 2006 is a gold colour. My rings are PR>6 377 PR = Pine Rivers Budgeriger Society >6 = 2006 year of hatching. 377 = the number of the bird. Some rings are different. They have the breeders code on them. eg BNS 10G 282/03 BNS = Brisbane North Budgerigar Society 10G = Henry George (Breeder) 282 = Number of the bird 03 = 2003 year of hatching If you buy a bird with a coded ring you can go to your local Budgerigar Breeders Association, tell them the ring code and they should left you know who bred the bird. From that you could find out from that breeder a lot about the bird. Here is an example of one of my birds Unique ID: wells-06-g7 Species: Budgerigar Name: Merkin Band No: green 7 Profile Sex: Male Cage Number: Flight Clutch Number: 06/02 - 6#1 Hatch Date: 24/03/2006 Phenotype: Sky Blue Normal Genotype: Blue Mutant 1, Split Cinnamon, Split Recessive Pied Committed: nil Committed To: nil Birth Problems: nil Health Status Nest Problems: Nil Illness/Treatments: Nil Weights Wk1: 40 Wk2: 38 Wk3: 38 Male Parent Unique ID: PC-05-o2 Color: Cobalt Recessive Pied Lt Green Cinnamon Wing Genotype: Recessive Pied, Blue Mutant 1, (SF) Dark Factor, Split Cinnamon Female Parent Unique ID: PC-04-o3 Color: Cinnamon Lt Green Genotype: Cinnamon, Split Recessive Pied Left the Brood Date of Status: 13/06/2006 Added to Flock Final Status:

You really can't after there first or second moult. The only real way is to ask the breeder when you get them and hope he is truthful in his answer.

We Have Babies!
Great pictures THIRTY FIVE BLACK do you have any of egg pics that the mom is not sitting on and that the eggs are about a day or two before hatching because my eggs are should of hatched in beetween friday and sunday well that was the first egg and the first egg has a dark ting to it does that mean there is an egg inside and oh ya the hen didnt start to incubate till the fourth egg so does that mean the egg will hatch later? and my last question is that there is an egg with an orange ting to it what does that mean ? well thanks for any info and pictures thanks! Budgie Guy the only really good way to find out if your eggs are fertile is to candle them. I have PM you the links to a site that will explain what to look for. Are you still having trouble?

Using The Nestbox
She should be going in around 5 to 7 days. But some are different to others. I've had females lay in 9 days from being put in the breeding cage. Some don't lay at all for 21 days.

Breeding Show Varieties?
A grey green is a grey gene on a green bird. You can mate with a blue and you could get. Grey, Green, Greygreen or blue. But remember you don't know what the bird is split to.. if any. That is where the fun is in genetics. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/budgies024.jpg This hen looks like a light green cinamon but she is split to recessive pied. here is her first clutch. Four recessive pied chicks. the bottom three are recessive on blue birds and the top is recessive on green. ***Note a blue bird is white and a green bird is yellow***

Breeding Show Varieties?
A parblue is when the yellow face bleeds into the blue body giving it a greeny tingle to the blue. There are to types of parblue the type one and the golden face. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/budgies028.jpg This is a golden face parblue spangle. Thanks pecker. No not all my birds are show type. I have seven birds that I would class as Show out of which only two are very good. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/LG-026-04.jpg Light Green Opaline Hen http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/LG-022-04.jpg Grey green normal cock. The Opaline cost me $100 au in an action. The hens cost up to $530 au in the auction

Breeding Show Varieties?
Hi Sailorwolf. I first thought that she was a parblue type I but as she has grown (that is about a month old now) she has become more dark green. She is going through her first moult so we should see her real colour soon. Her Hatch Date was the 24th January 06.

My 2 New Budgies
A 1 month old chick has not fledged properly. I don't fledge them Until 34 days old and then only to a nursary cage until they are 45 days old and I am sure that they can properly feed them selves. I don't let go a chick at 28 - 30 days. That is irresponcible for a breeder to do that.
