  1. thanmk you dave and as someone kindly pointed out to me my rope swing needed fixing normally i would plat the tasseled end and cut the excess but i forgot with all the excitement so i have now fixed this issue as they can become more hazard than whats worth if a bird got caught in it which is not irregular happening many a poor bird has died due to ring getting stuck of feet toes and done alot of damage flapping to get out
  2. well i did in parts but thats as im not a builder but then a friend helped and the rest was done properly i just got to get up their and silicon seal the ones poking through so they do not get water running down them now
  3. if you have other birds in the aviary id remove them to a smaller cage or cage the birds who are not its mum n dad (says you have five birds ) or the chick or another bird could get hurt or killed as mum will be supper protective toss in some fresh grass or seedling grass and bit milk thistle also carrot like suggested so long as the breeding box is not in wet or in open it should be warm enough in their good luck
  4. very cute it was cuter the budgie snuggling in to him it was very scary letting them form a friendship very i would sit ready to pounce on the parrot if he was to turn
  5. Remember DF spangles can hide any other mutation including cinnamon But if the YF Blue cock bird (father of DF Spangle) is split for it, wouldn't him and his previous partner would have produced some cinnamon chicks? Would I be able to tell if he is split cinnamon by putting him to a split fallow hen?Just looking now, is it possible the cock is a visual cinnamon? no put him to a normal hen but by himself and her only not a spangle hen normal or a cinnamon hen and if all hens and cocks are normal for at least 4 clutches you could safely amuse hes not split or cinnamon as if with a cin hen (saying hes visual cin ) he would produce only cinnamon chicks if split with a cin cin hens and cocks can be expected normals are not counted out though if only normals does not mean he isnt mabe just genetics hiding away its based on 100 chick the whole gene thing thats alot of chicks to breed to find out if split something or not if only pets its not really a big issue unless your trying to breed something specific that you dont want cinnamon in like fellow
  6. i would of put that big sky cin hen with the sky / lacewing i know theirs no dark factor but you would get white lacewings and splits if they came out suffused just put to any of you nice grey boys when their ready to breed and get more /lacews
  7. got to be happy with them mate
  8. no, no pics sorry and their wont be just what ever you see in my pics when i take pics of baby's my breeding area in the flight is not set up or started as yet im trying to measure what height three cages need it will fit around 12 breeding cabinets compatible with room for me to move splat here are pics all the studs in wall of shed the whole way round is like this Are these screws or pop rivits or nuts and bolts and are they going threw to the top of the roof like the walls? these are wood screws we drilled hole into aviary first then straight through into wood the roof where it joins see how its just on top and screwed flat I don't get what you mean (just on top and screwed flat, do you mean the wood is sitting against the roof then screwed. yes and no yes its screwed into roof no not straight through see the next picture with the sky light see the small thin bit of wood its about half a centermeter thick their are 5 of them going up toward roof the boards are screwed to them at intervals but boards are long ways beams are other way ,..sorry i can not explain it any other way and screws are from inside on roof to look at you cant tell but if you see the skylight where it joins top of gabble you can see what i mean i had to do dodge job of filling small holes so birds cant get into the cavity just did a trimming and rolled wire hope you can get jist of what i did if not i think its time for a visit
  9. yes you could end up with fertile eggs from one cock to all hens.... or all cocks to all hens and never knowing really whos who i think you didnt understand how you cock produce Cinnamon when his Peron were not cin it is possible his dad was split but no cinn chicks were hatched yet he got the gene passed on its a 25 percent pass on rate
  10. i have had cocky conoure and budgies out at once and a teail the cocky and conure chased eachother for my atention the budgie just hide the teail sat on its area so i put cocky and conure back then teail would sit with me but when budgie came out from hiding chassed it around in end i put all birds outside bar my conure i had a alexandra parrot and a budgie who use to live together their choice it started i would let them out together both indoor cages the alixandra had a two meter tall by 90 by 90 cage in lounge the budgie was young 6 weeks the budgie would go up to the bigparrot itwould intern try eat it the budgie was persistent and tryedto re enter cage all time after a month the parrot let the budgiein and the budgie sat onhis own side after few weeks budgie tryed to sneek closer to parrot butparrot tryed to eat him every time budgie kept trying one day budgie sneeks over when parrots asleep and started preening its belly parrot waked up and snapped at budgie budge does this few times over week parrot ended up giving in and they started preening each other and became best mattes i never had to watch them alone to gether again and both birds eneded up with full run of lounge so its not impossable but doesnt always work parrot didnt like any other budgies ever when his mate passed on

  12. thanks splat Pulpitis is the one i was thinking of
  13. thank you all very much @ clearwing if not for you i would not of known where to start you gave me the infomation i needed to start convisations with others regarding my aviry and birds health so finnie i can not take the credit of the aviary's production however i can say it was me who held the whip and if not for that it would still be as was and birds would still be dieing its been very hard to get this done as i dont know a lot of people and the ones i do well not the type who would bother to give anything but a offer then renege when time arrives at last mini i almost hired a hire a hubby but my dad came to my rescue as did a friend ive made outside my club all the supplys came from local tip wood and screws even the tools used 90 percent were from tip its amazing what people toss out as junk so the total cost was for the wire and the wood to make the frame to the divider at a cost of $135 .oo that got me 12 bits of wood mouse wire a 10 meter roll 5 meters of normal square bird wire some u bolt nails and delivery the untreated pine boards came also from tip i guess their was a reason we had all toughs big storms here in Melbourne after all :D timing is a good thing and benefited me greatly all i can say is thank you god :D i do feel sorry for toughs people whos homes and sheds buildings in general that were damaged and had to be taken to tip due to council regulations and safety laws but part of me cant help but be glad for their loss as it was my gain is that wrong ??? cause i would have never been able to do all this if thoughs storms had not come about splat taking pics now
  14. nar im not worried about showing yet **** i only been breeding since sep last year show birds and this only my third round of pairs have you ever looked at the possibility your birds are getting tail rot in nest ?? as no tail isnt always from good feather and not a sign of good bird in my eye also it its hard to get out of stock if it is from feather i dont keep tail less birds unless caused by other reason than apparent feather quality (personally i believe its just a mild case of fm nothing to do with good feather id say its bad if they dropping out not good } but can be caused by feather rot which is different birds born with tail then it drops after first molt never regrows it tries but after growing about two or three centimeters feathers all soft and black at end and pulls out with black rotten end i dont remember what causes it or how to stop it
  15. well its not half finished yet still lots to do but birds are okay to be in more pics then 10 minits latter .... and his daughter some babys this is cat my new friend @ splat,.. i just put some blue n silver builders instillation on the roof with liquored nails and then we secured 5 beams across up toward gabble not length ways then a lining of bubbled warped instillation to that then screwed straight to the beams they are not big thick ones measured and cut the wood to size at the very top i left a gap under the wood lining and over lapped the last peace to the others with screws as so their was room to drill my ventilation holes as i have a vent under the wood but are yet to drill the holes that will take the heat out through it as its winter i want to keep warmth in till their accustom to being outside all the wood was screwed straight to shed to maximize room lose and strengthen shed the out side looks like a mod punks jacket i will get some snaps we drilled from outside in and then grind-ed off the points i will get some pics if you like to show you
  16. no i dont think so these are nice babys yes nice and big but i doubt i will be beating anyone fast they have some good contenders in my club and lot of them only breed for fun so dont do the big shows yet take out the club shows quiet easily im not going to be showing myself as yet im just building my own stud up i am getting their quicker than i thought but still alot of improving to do i do like the spangle marks on the little fella though nice dark crisp most my bred birds have been no dark factor birds this past season bar a few greys so i better start pairring for a bit of df or everything will become light with no dark ive been pairing for results not color or anything just for size and face feather so feel im achieving that

  19. well its been along time and its not all finished but ................................................................................ ..here it is welcome to Avalon house where magic happens and tranquility is found my aviary started out as a tin 3mt by 3 mt by 210 high gabled shed that was converted into one flight space it was great ,..well so i thought until my birds kept dieing and for no apparent reason after almost one year of deaths and 5 autopsy's and a lot of unnecessary waste of money and medicating of birds for certain things as precautionary measures i finally got a result from scarifying a sick bird by getting it anesthetized and a micro autopsy done after crop and poo samples were taken before it was put to sleep the result was pneumonia ( airsacatitous ) caused by condensation and humidity of the aviary going from very warm during day to very cold at night then as morning would come back around as it was warmer inside the condensation would drip off and onto birds and floor the humidity it caused making the birds get fungal infection in airsac and dieing very rapidly of pneumonia so the solution was to line the aviary so i decided to do what was meant to be done from start and section off two flight spaces only now one space has become a breeding area and the other flight space its all very smiko looking birds have been in a week now but here it is before they entered what you think ?? blind down as you walk in door breeding area (not finished ) looking across to left flight from door theirs a opening shade cloth covered door on open wire so can be closed permanently in winter and opened right up in summer it latches to out side aviary looking from in flight to door across to other side (breeding area ) its quiet warm in their now staying regulated at around 8 to 4 deg at night and 25 durring day still got some things to do like ventilation for breeding side to take extra dust out and need to do something about breeding side as floor stays bit damp the pavers are sucking the moister up so maybe a drain out side along side i dont know yet anyhow here are few pics birds in few babys getting first ever sun beam its good nice amount of room i was worryed it would be to small still light with blind down more pics to come
  20. I think thats a very good idea me thinks too cheers dave im quiet exited about them lattly though i must admit some the chicks comming out have made me look at my normal sized show bird chicks and want to just move them on its very hard when some are so so good and others are very average i have to keep saying to myself their just fry in pans as so i dont move something that may actually be very good on as its small looking or thin very hard to do
  21. i know well john did say to me when he gifted me the cock that he was not anything to look at but that he would help me get started and i waited a whole year before breeding with him i just never really thought i had a hen good enough but i dont think that would make a difference steroids lol man id hate to of feed these chicks steroids as they'd get stuck in the boxes trying to get out the whole letting mum in dad go another round i think
