  1. yes why we beginners are told to stick to normals no other reason bar as if you dont know the back ground of your birds you cant breed a line straight forward to plan with out things popping up even if you breed your own normals these is a chance of something recessive popping up but less a issue if only once rather than lots
  2. if shes crying out for him dont go out their just look from inside put a cage out with seed he may b back she may call him back
  3. use grey normal you dont want to breed opaline fellows either to start with as thumb print problem can b a pain
  4. also i would be putting in holding cages with wire floor so cant get to their poo also vet will give you baycox costs ten dollors to treat my 97 birds so.... 5 dollors for your few your vet will give if you ask you must tell him they have cocci also did your vet give you what medication for the one that dided did they have psittacosis... as you need 45 day treatment of doxy if this case and all birds should have been treated when she was did vet know you had other birds also clean all cages and if you can get hold of a blow tortch heat treat the cages top to bottom this will kill the cocci cycle if its psittacvosis whatever then clean but dont need to heat treat them just very good scrub top to toewith white king
  5. also here read this http://web.archive.org/web/20080330172639/...dgies/news1.htm here this i meant specifically http://web.archive.org/web/20080328232815/...et/fallows1.htm
  6. well makes more sence to do only one round at end of year and two at start to me anyways start being end feb to start July last bubys out personally i just pair up the birds as they are ready
  7. i know if i was breeding fallows i would never buy a bird split cin or cin for my line or would i buy a fallow breed from a cinnamon
  8. and leave a cage for dad with seed and water on top of aviary as he may come back could take few days so leave it out with door open he will hop in and eat then stay their as the cage to him will feel safe he may not come back but if bonded well they hear each other calling and he may return
  9. if your breeding pet no one cares put what you want in but if breeding for show i would go right away from cinnamon in fellows
  10. I am sorry I sounded harsh also But I am really serious when I say I did check the birds before the boxes went in. All the birds are wormed, and if I had my medicince I probably would have treated the hen, and it would have been gone in a week. it is just **** luck that when I don't have medicince it develops. I really don't think it has been months, maybe 3 months approx. I am not making excuses, but I do take good care of my birds, and they are wormed and treated with doxy etc. So I am a little miffed that they appeared. **** my life. The pictures may be true, and she does have the scaley on her face, I don't know about you guys, but it is showing up really dark on my moniter, but it is lighter and not so stained in real life. You also said yourself that birds feel more pressured to stay on the nest when colony breeding. I do see the hen, but mostly just poking her head out to check mate is there, or get a quick feed. That is why I have just looked over (which I know is bad) the face, because I really only properly noticed it a couple days ago, and I knew I was getting my new meds soon. It was only when i saw her going back into the nest I saw her vent. I feel bad, she was on 5 fertile eggs and she put a nail through one when I grabbed her from the nest She is sure to lay mor eggs in the holding cage, I can only hope they don't chill before I can get to them and put them in a nest. She has laid 11 eggs before, all fertile. why did you grab her from nest you should have gently coaxed her out by tapping on door first m okay im just going to shut up now as other wize im going to look like im picking but i do think you need to think things through before you do them also three months is a long time
  11. looks like things getting better their good luck with it all
  12. s-c im not being nasty im not pointing a big fat finger and saying you dont care for your birds im just saying scaly might that advanced does take a good few months i myself missed a small case of it on some of the birds i sent to members here when i was doing cull bird thing i too did not look for it i checked birds for all else but that but thats as my birds are continuously treated 3months to the day they last get the ivomectom all chicks at 2 weeks and second week out nest and then all breeders before breeding commences but as they were not mine i over looked that others arrnt so vigilent so im not having a go but i am saying you need to maybe take a bit more time to go into flight and look over birds colony breed birds need chicks checked too and hens need to be seen daily so you know their alive so the comment you made saying you hardly get to view her is just supporting the fact you need to spend more attention to them go for you picking it up and great for hunting out advice and doing something about it and removing cock as so no fights break out as harmony in flight changed all great things you did please i may sound harsh but im trying to make you more aware to the fact that this was as you said a possibility so you should have treated as a precaution when you first thought m looks suss darl you do good but you need to exel when breeding or you may let other more worse things slip by if you dont follow through with first thoughts if you had of treated back then she would not have gotten this bad and mate picture shows how advanced it is its not just making it look worse (unless she just ate chocky cake but i doubt that )
  13. or you could use cotton bud to put on some paraffin oil it also smuthers the mite and soffens crust that hens had that for some time its not something that happens over night this shows that colony breed birds are not looked after to extent they should be regardless of what people say your hens and cocks should of been looked over before putting in any boxes for any issues they may of had lots more than scaly might can be wrong you obviously did not check birds before breeding commenced or this hen would not be so bad you better get some ivomectom and start exemaning birds as you would if cage breeding and do whole flock with treatment as they will all have it maybe just not as bad or visual and rub the paraffin oil over the perching also in the flight to smother the scaly mite thats in the wood
  14. well if the docxiline working i guess not and as for salt water it just flushes system out for a day i just use a tea soon in half cup then just seringe a bit down beak not much but i would say dont stress them any more with it if they seeming better

  17. I think she will have a white face. I am going with hen, but it is looking more cockish by the day. I can see white quills and in the wings it is showing with a blue/grey colour, you can't see in pictures, under the skin kinda. DF YF, hmm I never thought of that. Wouldn't that mean the hen is either DF or split? (going with albino parents) The albinos have another chick under them, so we will see how that one turns out no would mean mum is masking spangle also you cant go by quill colour only feather broken through wasnt dad a spangle ? if mum masked spangle it could b df why eyes are plum also i said yf as the bird having dark quills on face does sometimes reprozent yf comming through but would think you could tell your side if was by now as skin stains dark but greenish yellow look with dark quills feathers open yellow of course but your probably right and prob grey cinnamon online just seems very white allover still for a other colour
  18. lacewing hen is fn beautiful im so so so wounded crying if only i had money in hand id for sure try for her she would be perfect for my plan
  19. Hey, Dave, having a sky light on the roof like that means that on hot days, the direct sun will really heat up the shed. Do you have a plan for some kind of shade cover to pull over that? On the flip side, it should help keep them toasty on sunny days in the winter. Yes he has a plan for shade cover during summer. Dave and I discussed this before he ordered his new shed The covering of the skylight has already been discussed and planned out. i have the same sky light and its very very good and very easy to keep cool with a shade cloth pannel that can be fixed to a removable frame that you remove in winter sheds to dark with out it
  20. I am going to do what it said to do, seems as if there is no other choice. Hope something is on my side. I do love my budgies so. I just wish I knew how much of that compound they need to ingest per day, so i could make sure they do. will let you know what the out come is in a week or so. sigh....................... if your going to try the doxiline then drip the mixed solution on to top of beak let it roll in have you tried to give salt warm water to get rid of any toxins the frogs may of given off onto the boys hands and transferred to birds the salt will help travel through body quick maybe save them but thats just a thing i would try from my knowledge not actually a promised treatment so but id try anything that being one thing doxline m yea second thing nbut also last resort
  21. thats very cool i have a nest 6 eggs all hatched last one squashed before i could get to it though but rest doing good 4 with mum one fostered to chicks of same size
  22. i dont know but is she coming out yf or is it the picture also i think the chicks fine standing okay in the picture on your hand how old is it today ?? still think df but i dont know can you see grey or just because the pigment in the feather quills ??? i cant see much from the pics i also think she is a he i am probably totally wrong on all three calls of yellow face df spangle cock but its my guess
  23. Bear in mind that hens rotate eggs in and under them and out again and in and under to regulate temperatures. Even if you see an egg out, it isnt always about a forgotten egg or an egg mistakenly out of the nest, it can be just its turn to be out from under for a moment. The hens know about incubation better than we do most of the time. Touching the eggs, shifting them, moving them back under may not be in the master plan of that particular hens incubation sequence. Havent you sometimes looked in a nest and seen a hen reach out to an egg and pull it under her ? this is exactly what i was going to say kaz also you should let hen know when you cheak her box by tapping three times or so ligtly she will gentaly get off and out for you to sneak a peek then return soon as you close down door no need to touch anything anything not in the concave will be as kaz stated the hens best knowledge to whats going on
  24. yea woo hoo great news splat now stick to that your birds are good and you should hang on to all them
