The reason people are getting frustrated is because you asked for advice an you asked for the right way to do things and you made a song and dance about how you were going to do it that way and then you went and got another bird any way without following anyone's advice, it makes people fell as though they have wasted their time. With all due respect you have no idea whether it would be a difficult to get the cage off me, I asked where you were located as I travel around a fair bit and may have been able to drop it off for you. Never mind though
  2. My first thought was 6 too, maybe up to 8 at a squish depending also how big the birds were
  3. I am planning to do that Kaz, just have to get the baby a bit stronger first and I am short on small cages as I have birds in quarantine and the lorie is currently in an aviary.

The reason people have said that the current cage isn't suitable is because it is round which IS something that can be seen in photos :sadsorry: If you recall back near the start of this thread I actually offerred you a loan of a cage for quarantine
  5. I have convinced her to come out a few times and she will still have a scratch and talk quietly to me and is looking very healthy. She is very social and the behaviour started almost immediately her friend left so I don't think she's sick
  6. Here's a scary one for you then JB, my little boy has a hypercolour singlet bought only a year or so ago, made by Bonds I like pickle!
  7. At the moment s/he still looks like your standard ugly pink chick, once there are some feathers starting I'll take some piccies I promise! At the moment I'm just impatient to see how the pin feathers start to come through on the heads of my crestbred chicks
  8. No chance I am keeping all the babies from my show pairs at least until I have increased my flock numbers a fair bit. I have a pet type crested that I might pair up soon though
  9. If he has others I will ask him for info and pm you
  10. Now that you say that Dave he kinda reminds me of one of those technicolour t-shirts or whatever hey were called, the ones that were heat sensitive and changed colour
  11. Yes hopefully she will perk up, it's so sad to see her at the moment. AV and Pippi were over this arvo and normally she would be chatting to anyone at the aviary and she wouldn't even come out of her log. If she hasn't substantially improved in a couple of weeks I may shorten quarantine and introduce them early. I have a number of other birds that have come from this same person and they are always extremely healthy so the risk would be fairly minimal I think.
  12. Rung my first chick this morning!!! Then I rung him again after lunch  It seems to have stayed on the second time  It's a huge chick though, the egg was large and even new born it seemed larger than it's clutch mates, it's only 5 days old and it's already got it's bracelet  I didn't realise how excited I would be ringing my first show chick!! It's a great feeling to know that very soon I may have a contender or two for the UBC class at the club show  The first chick is from this pair: They have four chicks total at the moment, still a couple of eggs left My crested pair have two chicks and two eggs and my pied pair have two chicks
  13. Not at the moment, he does sometimes have tame bubs though, this little guy was a surprise as he didn't think any had chicks yet and then he checked a box today on a hunch when he heard a noise and found him  He knew I wanted one so he called me straight away to come get him  He checked all the other boxes and he was the only chick apart from two eggs so I was very lucky
  14. About a week ago I lost my tame lories mate by my own stupid fault, past my ankle out the door of the aviary. The next day I noticed she was very quiet but figured she would settle. Well she hasn't settled at all infact if anything she has got worse, spending all her time sitting quietly inside her log house and not coming out to speak to me. So I made the decision that I would try and find a suitable friend for her. Today I picked up a baby lorikeet from a friend of mine. He is straight out of the nest and had never seen a human before. I figured he would be hard to tame as he is fully fledged and should have been kicked out of the box by now so a little past what I wanted for taming but figured I'd give it a go. Well he's the sweetest little critter as it turns out! He has taken up residence in my transport box at the moment as he likes the security of the box still and I can shut him up in there safe overnight. He spent the arvo sitting on top of it waiting for the next feed He's already stepping up onto my hand and likes a scratch behind the ear In the next couple of days once he has a little more confidence he can be moved into a cage with a towel over it but right now he just wants the box Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot I can do about my grieving girl until this guy is ready to be introduced so I will just have to keep talking to her and try and pull her out of her depression a little but at least I know that in a few weeks she will have another friend
  15. If they only started doing it after the sand arrived I'd say they are going to ground to lay them.
  16. He is a LONG way from you down near Frankston... If you were really interested I can check if he's still got it and I could pick it up when I get mine in the next couple of weeks and at least bring it back to my place for you .
  17. That's great Jenene and so simple!
  18. melbournebudgies replied to a post in a topic in New to BBC
I would say he is cobalt. You are asking for trouble not quarantining him though
  19. Just watch as the babies get bigger that that thin skin doesn't get damaged. Hopefully the air sacs might reduce soon
  20. The reality is that there is about a 95% chance that they will simply bond to each other. If you aren't fussed whether Benny is tame go for it but the reality is that you will have two budgies that will be each others friends. It is more likely that Benny's nervousness will cause the other to be less confident around you.
  21. I have a number of handreared birds, both budgies and other parrots and I honestly feel that handrearing often causees more problems. Handreared birds can be very demanding, they can get attached to a single person and attack all others, etc. I personally think co-rearing(letting the parents feed while you handle) is a much better way to get lovely friendly pets. The main thing you have to realise is that it takes longer to tame a budgie than a larger parrot. It can take up to six months to have a budgie really tame as they are a more independent species, whereas I picked up a baby lorikeet today which had come straight out of the nest this arvo never having seen a human before and it is already a sucker for a scratch behind the ear! If you handle all the babies and then pick the one that seems to be the quietest and frindliest and spend heaps of time with it then you will have a great pet but you have to be prepared to put the time in.
  22. Nope, that's Joey, he's mine According to the bloke it has a little surface rust along the bottom edge so it would need a bit of a clean up and as you can see the lock's a little rusty but otherwise pretty good nick. I haven't picked mine up yet Neat, went and saw him and had a look at it yesterday, picked Joey(the rosella) up and gave him a deposit. He's going to dismantle it during the week and I'll pick it u next weekend.
  23. I had to come home as my kids were going feral but AV is there and so is Pippi I think they are planning tohead over my way after and talk budgies
  24. They are probably being judged as we spak JB Carolyn was looking very nervous but her birds looked great
