They do have to comply to certain standards of safety, etc. I would just be looking for whether there is a warranty, etc provided. There is a trampoline supplier near me on Albert St, if I get a chance when I'm going past one day I'll check it out. I know they had spring free ones too.- How Many Hours Of Sleep Do Breeding Budgies Need A Night?
I like to keep their day at about 14 hours long during breeding so 8 hours sleep Are you still having trouble getting them to breed? They're bushies aren't they? I only ask because my bushies are the only ones that I can't get to breed either I am wondering if they need a larger breeding cage with more personal space to feel comfortable. Maybe something to do with being less domesticated than their pet and show type counterparts. I'm about to try so I'll let you know if I have any luck- Trampolines...
The springfee ones are VERY expensive, what size are they after? I know someone who has a large round one with springs and my two kids bounce on it with no worries as the spring matts are pretty good now. If you are getting a very big one the spring ones aren't such an issue as you have more space to stay away from th springs By the way I have recently seen some great ones with safety nets and matts very cheap on ebay(new) up to 12ft. One of the wholesalers in Melbourne seemed to have a good deal on them. I also saw one of the sports stores had a good special at the moment too but not sure on size- Egg
Lily feel free to get in touch if you have any worries with your chicks after they hatch, I'm in Melbourne too- Changing Roxy's Food
Maybe you could stop making the rearing food enjoyable, can you still crop feed her? You could crop feed her a small feed once a day and then just have seed in her cage so she never sees the choice. Eventully she'll have to give in and that way she won't starve atleast.- My Budgie Dogs
It is amazing how gentle larger animals can be sometimes and your dogs sound lovely. When I was a kid we had our cat catch our budgie when it's cage got knocked over outside, she brought it in the house and put it down and he flew up onto the empty cage!!!- Aussie Update
If you posted and then added something to it afterwards (like your extra writing after the pics) then it will take out the line breaks and cause that to happen If you want to fix it you can click on edit at the bottom of your post and put the line break back in again- Aussie Update
Pics are the perfect size My only suggestion is to put them all on a new line when you post so they show up underneath each other rather than making the page very wide- My Budgie Dogs
Wow what lucky stories! Can I ask if you wouldn't mind switching caps lock off as it makes it very hard to read- Boof And Sophie
Greywing normals, maybe blues if dad is split, all will be light green (or skyblue) and about half should be yellowface- What Is With This Bird?
This is normal for a bird taken from a large aviary and put in a small cage, she should settle- I Think I Saved A Baby!
Unfortunately despite sounding alot better last night when I did a final check the little one had died this morning- What Items/medications Should I Ask For From The Vet
I understand that SW and I wasn't suggesting that I wanted a fully stocked drug cabinet but there are a few things which are handy to have in the cupboard for emergencies such as turbosole for canker. My closest avian vet is a long way from here and not easy to see after hours. As I am totally capable of preparing a slide and observing it to check for things like canker or mega it would be handy to have some of the basic items in the cupboard for after hours emergencies when I can't see a vet. Had I had turbosole in the cupboard a few weeks ago when I had just such and emergency I might have been able to save my best spangle hen as I was able to confirm canker on a slide after she died(which happened very quickly)- Help Please
Does the youngest have decent tail feathers yet? Might be the only reason it hasn't got the problem yet if one of the parents has just gone after the larger feathers on the older chicks. They do tend to pick a spot(ie. just the head or back), yes that's one of the stranger choices but certainly possible Examine the pulled feathers carefully, the bottom one in the picture looks chewed near where the blood is- Help Please
The way they are damaged further up the shaft makes me wonder if it is actually a parent chewing them and causing the blood feathers to bleed- Introducing Ben!
Sleeping in the seed bowl is very much a baby thing to do, I wouldn't worry about it as he should stop soon Any native branches are fine including gum, bottlebrush or tea tree. If you give him some leaves to chew he may enjoy that too. Just make sure they haven't been sprayed with any nasties- I Think I Saved A Baby!
Tempered though by the fact that my tiniest crested chick (2 days old) also much younger than it's siblings died I have made a clutch of four in the pied nest with the four older chicks (2 pieds and 2 foster crested) and given the crested hen just the baby in trouble to care for. She is a very caring hen (despite the death of her smallest baby) she is always snuggled down with her bubs in the nest keeping them cosy and keeps them well fed so I'm hoping she may be just what the little one needs. The little crested one that died was near the entrance so may have been landed on awkwardly by parents entering the nest.- I Think I Saved A Baby!
I checked my boxes when I got home tonight and the little pied baby who is only two days old (the late hatcher, older siblings MUCH bigger) had an empty crop and looked very weak, so weak I originally thought it was dead. On closer inspection not dead but very weak. I tried putting it with another hen who completely ignored it, it was too weak to ask for food and wasn't being responsive to the hens offers at all. Being so tiny and me not having a crop needle yet I couldn't feed it so I did the only thing I could think of. Keeping it warm in my hands I made a mixture of budgie rearing mix and just a dash of lorikeet food (for a quick sugar kick) then I swished it around and sucked a little of the fluid into a normal syringe(no needle on the end), carefully I pushed it's little mouth open a touch and put the tiniest bit of the fluid in it's beak, after a second it swallowed it, I did this a couple of times until I could see a small amount in the crop. I was careful not to fill the crop as I wanted the baby to still be hungry for a proper feed. I moved the two older chicks from one of my hens who's a great mum and put him in on his own. Then I crossed my fingers!! I had to go out for the evening but I just got home and there is lots of chick noise coming from the box!!! I will see in the morning whether he is still kicking but the mix I gave him seems to have given him enough of a quick boost to give him the energy to beg for food again- Help Please
Someone with more experience may know better how to treat them but personally I would initially maybe just gently bathe their tail area in some salty water and make sure they are nice and dry and warm after. I recall hearing that they are hereditary so if they do prove to be cysts I wouldn't breed that pair again.- New Member : Advice Needed
I agree Neville, two weeks for me and only if I'm sure they're feeding themselves properly.- New Member : Advice Needed
I love ebay for decent cages If you are having trouble with the wing clipping I would be happy to give you a hand depending on where in Melbourne you are- Help Please
A photo would really help if possible- Introducing Ben!
Looks great I have corellas and galahs and they are great pets too Maybe a cocky one day but they're very noisy!! - Trampolines...
