Yay For My Crested Pair!
Well I am thrilled to report that the little dark feathers showing under the skin on the top of my oldest crestbred chick are pointing the wrong way!!!! Definately a crested, now to see what happens with the other two

I Am So Scared

Wet Patches Under The Drinker

How Much Power Does Your House Use?
You can't sell to the grid unless you areactually connected to the grid :bump:

Keeping Your Branches Fresh
If you made a little sleeve out of some cuff material then you could slip it over the branch and then pull it down over the lip of that spot where the hole is, that would stop any budgies from trying to get into the bucket and also hide the sharp parts. I've seen those buckets, might do it myself :bump:

How Much Power Does Your House Use?
Um... read my first post again Renee, that's what we are investigating :bump: It is quite expensive to install a solar unit so we have to work pout whether it is financially feasible. As well as that many solar set ups won't cope with the extra strained caused byt an air con. We wouldn't be selling to the grid as if we installed one it would be because nho mains power was available (we're buying in the bush)

How Much Power Does Your House Use?
It depends on the type too, a regrigerated system uses heaps more power than an evaporative system

Ai For 'difficult' Breeders
I would like to give it a try for my disabled grey hen also who will lay eggs but none have been filled, I was watching the cock trying to mount her a few days ago and they kept falling off the perch

Ai For 'difficult' Breeders
Do any of the breeders here do AI? I have been researching the methods and having had experience in vet nursing, etc I am fairly confident I could do it without injuring the birds but I'd love any advice from people that actually use it. I only intend to use it for birds who I am certain are just not going to get their acts into gear any other way, i will probably use Ozzie as my first try He is still under supervision after the death of his other hen so I am hoping to do a little more reading and get supplies by the time I have paired him with another hen.

I Need Advice , Tips And Everything You Can Throw At Me
You just have to persevere Neat, I know it sounds tough but we had to do it with Alex too. I used to make a fool of myself whenever he did and just jump up and start singing "Celebrate good times come on, doo doo dooo dooodoooo doodoodoooo, whoo hooo..." Also I took the nappies and got a different looking nappy (with a different picture on it). Then I explained that these nappies were only night time nappies and you couldn't wear them during the day

Baby Chick Not Being Fed!
If you put the chick in an icecrean container in a little cage with the dad on his own will he feed it? Otherwise just take the hen out of the cage for a few minutes until George feeds the baby and then pop her back, don't take her out for too long though

Just Bonded
I would say the same thing The throat spots give the spangle away They are a nice pair, I'd be happy to have them in one of my breeding cages :bliss:
-
Lucky!
Not much but not sure of specifics. If the temp was too low the chick would simply die. The oldest chick is about 6, 2nd 4 days old and the youngest hatched today
-
Lucky!
I've been keeping an eye on him, he is well fed so far These guys are great parents and the littl ones don't seem to miss out at all with them :bliss:

What Do You Do?
You shouldn't generally use a multivitamin on the same day as a calcium suppement. I don't use calcivet as I powder my own eggshells instead so not sure of the recommendations specific to that product. I personally work on the same theory as you will see written on every bottle of human vitamins "Vitamin supplements can only be of assistance if the dietary intake is inadequate" I like to give them as much variety in their diet, including providing a large selection of fruit and veg, native plants and seeding grasses as I feel this will always be a healthier way than simply dosing them up on synthesised supplements. Just my opinion though

Lucky!
The other one's totally clear so I think I'll chuck that, pending a miracle

Lucky!
He's a late baby which is why I figured he was DIS also, he is two days late. I guess he hasn't been kept as warm now that the hen is in and out of the nest box with her older chicks *shrug*

Lucky!
had two eggs left in my pied clutch which I felt weren't going to hatch, checked them both this morning, one empty and one looked DIS, I didn't have time to get rid of them so I left them in the box and figured I'd get rid of them tonight. Well got home and the DIS one has hatched  I'm so glad I didn't chuck them this morning!!!
